anyone else think the rockets are overrated - right now? Everyone praises Morey, and hes done a good job lately...but they are barely ahead in the 8th seed. sixth season as a GM....then look what Hennigan has done in half a season.

and no matter what gm we had, we would have been tanking. this team was built soley around dwight with unmovable trash, besides a few players

I still remember boston just absolutely dismantling us with VC....that was tough. After that, the Hawks just sealed the deal. Gilbert wasn't as bad as how SVG used him, and same for jrich

Noel's significant injury coupled with his literally spindly legs scare me about a guy that's supposed to be a power player. Any player that has missed the bull of the college season is an automatic pass for me.

I'm warming to Smart. Could be our starting point for the next six to ten years. Plenty of room to grow but lots of leadership and game manage, net skills.

So you wouldn't have taken Irving?

As a guy who has both Smart and Noel in his Top 3 there is no logic behind thinking one will bust while the other won't. Both are project players with great defense yet VERY raw on the offensive end. Unless you have a crystal ball I'm not sure how you see Noel busting and Smart starting the next ten years.

Yes, I may have passed on Irving. But he's a different player than Noel.

And I'm not saying Noel doesn't have talent, but (a) I'm concerned about his injury and his frame - the guys legs are like toothpicks, and (b) there doesn't appear to be that big a gap between the top players this year.

No one single player is showing themselves to be the obvious first round pick. In that environment, I favor the players that aren't coming off a major injury.

Understandable. Personally I think long term effects of ACL injuries are miniscule with modern 21st century medicine but I understand.

From jet to the bar that quickly, too bad it was late the place was empty... place was packed cheering on the magic just a couple hours ago!

Seeing some NBA players up close sounds cool. Did you say anything to them? While we're on the subject, I know someone who went to school with Tobias. He may have been in Tobias's class, I'll need to doublecheck.
Remember when Kobe elbowed Jameer in the chin so hard Jameer was knocked down and sent skidding across the floor?

Mostly I agree, but I would probably phrase it as "the long term effects of ACL injuries can be minuscule with modern 21st century medecine."

I just think this draft is too important to the future of the franchise to take any chances with an injured player.

Having said that, Hennigan now probably drafts Noel... :)

I actually think Noel would have cemented the top pick had he not been injured.

Yep, Noel is my guy. We don't really need Shabazz and Smarts inability to shoot from long range bothers me. Mclemore is intriguing as well, I just haven't seen much of him.

I agree ACLs aren't as bad as they used to be but I also agree that you can't take a chance at this stage of the rebuilding.

Just got given 2 tickets to the L.A game row 5, so excited. Was about to spend $100 on two tickets which were pretty bad seats but then my Dad got given these through his work for free, just had to tell some people.

I like the idea of drafting Noel and having a similar season to what we're having now, but then we lose out on our huge TPE. I think Hennigan wants McLemore or Smart, two guys who could contribute right now, and go after a someone in FA and give them the max. There is no point drafting Noel and then giving someone the max this season with our TPE is there??? Idk but whatever Hennigan does it's gonna be crafty.

Do you think we will re-sign Beno? Maybe 9M/3 years deal.

Outside of defense how will Smart contribute right now? He is already limited offensively on the college level.

Not sure why guys on this forum think that Smart isn't a project player.

NBA-Ready guys at the top of the draft: Porter, McLemore, Bennett, Zeller, Shabazz

Project players at the top of the draft: Noel, Smart, Oladipo, Len

wolves fans on the trade board seem open to afflalo for the 7th pick

magic take Noel or Smart 1st/2nd and Oladipo/Burke/Shabazz 7th

thoughts?
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Houston also lost the best center in the World in Ming.
they are 19-8 vs. the east, so the West 7th seed ain't so bad. In the last 10 yrs, they've had 1 losing season.

I agree w your second statement.

all Rookies are projects to your point.
I'd like to hear the comparison of being NBA ready of McLemore, Shabazz & Oladipo to someone like Bradly Beal.
Smart vs. Lillard
Burke vs. Kendall Marshal and Marquis Teague.

you also have to think how to work the salary cap. You cant have all young players, as very soon they all get raises and you cant afford them. You need a mixture of youth and vets, constantly keeping an eye on the salary cap 2-3 years down the road.

Zmill I think it was who mentioned this a while back. When you look at Yahoo insider Woj's deadline tweets, it looks right up Min's alley. The trade makes a ton of sense to me if the Magic don't see Afflalo getting a 2014 pick and they absolutely love someone in the 7 range. Afflalo could also help this team alot however, maybe even better in a 3rd option way down the road. The impatience in me though, says do it and grab perhaps Smart and Oladipo.

Completely agree with tide, one small exception is the Magic are likely to be bigger tax payers than OKC for a little more roster space. We have great ownership.
