I'm not avoiding cards, more so just not making an effort to eat 'em when they come in the form of pasta and bread. Same with sugar. It's amazing what happens when you ditch or limit those two items.
This is essentially what I do. I also try to limit portion size and have my larger meals earlier in the day. Works decent when combined with my running and lifting routine.

Yea, I'm entering spring totally content with where I'm at. Bought some 33" jeans this weekend and fitted shirts. Last year I had to wait until June to do that because I didn't get serious about my diet and exercise until it was warm out.

If you can tolerate diet, it's really not that bad for you. The "omg artificial sweetener is badddd" fear is so overblown. A few diet sodas even daily won't put you in any health risks.

I can tolerate diet soda but I find myself really craving the sugar filled goodness of the regular stuff. Mountain Dew is my drug of choice.

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
Someone who knows more about nutrition can help with this, but I was in the same boat diet-wise while traveling for business last week. We tended to chose restaurants with more seafood than pasta joints and it was because of the carb/bread thing. I made a comment about the food triangle and how they still seem to recommend kids (and adults? I don't know) eating the most servings from this group, but the serving size has doubled the last I checked. I'm not a nutritionist so my thinking is purely anecdotal, but WTF is up with these recommendations, particularly when it comes to obesity in our youth in this country?

Interesting question, and I don't know the answer to it, but I truly don't believe that American kids are fat because of pasta.

Oh, no doubt.
But I'm legitimately wondering the reasoning for this if everything I've learned suggests the best diet is more vegetables and fruits, some healthy fats and stay the **** away from breads and pasta:

Again, not a nutritionist. I don't know ****.

I am a soda lover but addiction is east to beat, Try Sobe Lifewater as an alternative.

Ive had soda maybe 5 times in the last two years. Try Iced/Green tea or some Lifewater/Vitamin water zero instead. It wasnt something that I had everyday, but I just wanted to cut it out.

Lifewater/Vitamin water is complete ****. Get some bags of whatever flavor bagged tea you like and drop that in a pitcher or water bottle every day.

I like them, but I only get the zero calorie versions.
Costco's VitaRain Zero is really good too. Unfortunately, they just rebranded and took out a couple of their best flavors, but its still good.

My issue is the caffeine. I've never drank more than one soda per day, but crave it in the morning. I don't like the taste of coffee or tea. Not going to do the 5 hour energy thing. Do they even sell caffeinated water anymore?

Yeah I don't like coffee either which is killer. That would make things easier.

I love coffee. Especially Home brewed espresso. I don't get buzzed off that stuff, so If I do need a buzz badly, I just pack a dip in.

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
I hated coffee and tea before I got hooked years ago. It was one of those things I drank because my office offered cheap or free cups. Eventually you get used to it and it usually only takes a few weeks. A co-worker of mine hated coffee until her doc recommended a cup every morning. Hated it at first, looks forward to it now.
Personally, I like the cheap ****. It's one of those things where you know you might dislike it for a week but if you stick with it it'll be totally fine. It's why I don't drink $3.50 cups from Starbucks.

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
I dont like coffee and dont drink soda, so I really only drink water and occasionally OJ in the morning.
Im not sure what can be done for those struggling with caffeine craves other than the standard advice of gradually cutting out. Maybe go every other day then decrease to a couple of times a week, and etc.

Re: OT: P90X/Health and Fitness Thread
Side question: what have you guys tried to get into (coffee for two weeks, sushi for a half-dozen times, whatever) that you still don't like? I'm trying to think but my list is small. Olives are one, but I love the brine. I wish I loved sushi more, but some of it I really like.

Blu Cheese- Tried to get into it for a year or 2, but every time I tried it, it still tasted disgusting.
Im sure I have a few more that I can't think of right now, will updated later
