Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Re: State of the Roster
The Dwight Howard and Josh Smith stuff has been well-known for months now. The real takeaway there is that Andrew Bynum is still on Daryl Morey's radar.
It's a frightening thought, that the Rockets might spend large on a player who just finished sitting out an entire season due to injury. And for that player to be this player, in Andrew Bynum, conqueror of worlds, destroyer of franchises.
It's got me nervous, to say the least, but if there is anything I have learned over the years, it's been to trust Daryl Morey's judgment over my own.

The Rockets don't just put a strain on scoreboards. For anyone who likes to indulge in the sport of NBA payroll-tracking and salary-cap bookkeeping, keeping up with Houston's maneuvers is a workout.
After the Rockets' latest moves before last month's trade deadline, they have had 25 players on this season's books. That includes the 15 currently on the roster, which is full again following Monday's return to Clutch City for Aaron Brooks, along with a whopping 10 players who have been waived or bought out.
Here's a list of the 10 players who are not on the current Rockets roster but who count for nearly $11 million combined toward the $58.044 million salary cap in 2012-13:
Jon Brockman: $1,000,000
Daequan Cook: $3,090,942
Derek Fisher: $644,005
Gary Forbes: $1,500,000
Lazar Hayward: $1,174,080
Tyler Honeycutt: $809,875
JaJuan Johnson: $1,089,240
Shaun Livingston: $1,000,000
Scott Machado: $236,802
E'Twaun Moore: $381,098

What did you think of Bill Simmons' idea, where Bynum just plays on one or two-year contracts until he can prove he can stay healthy?
I don't think I'd mind Andrew Bynum at 1 year / 17,296,652 (i.e. 105% of his current expiring deal).
But even then, you'd have to weigh signing Bynum against the opportunity cost of missing out on other free agent signings this summer who could help the Rockets to varying degrees, too. (Smith, Millsap, Hickson, Igoudala, Jennings, and so on.) Saying "yes" to Bynum also means saying "no" to those guys.

Rockets don't need any of those guys they need a post scorer... Dwight plz
If not i'm fine with Bynum on a 1 year, 2nd year team option.

We need to get not just one, but possibly a couple more free agents. We need to address our defense this summer. I can realistically see us getting Smith as opposed to Bynum though how much is offered($) will be a big question. I doubt Morey offers him max too. I don't really like the 1 yr deal since it will hurt us pursuing other guys. If this coming summer was really bad for quality free agents, then possibly a 1yr deal at that rate. I don't even want Bynum and in the end, i think he re-signs with Philly. Some other team might offer him a 17mil/1yr deal though..now that wouldn't surprise me. It is something to think about either way...not easy to be a GM

yes, we need a post scorer for sure and an improved defense....d12 is what we want for sure, but realistically, i think he re-signs with LAL. if our defense dramatically improves from now till rest of season with DMO much improved, then a 1yr deal for bynum is fine. we will just add him this summer and roll with dmo, trob, tjones. i am encouraged about DMO's defense improving from what i've seen. when i watch him now, i just really want to see how he does defensively...

Re: State of the Roster
Step 1: LAL miss PO... Dwight mad.
When Dwight comes to Houston to train with Hakeem, we get him to do what he did last summer, tell Dwight to bring his ass to the Rockets.
Dwight lets LAL know he going to Rockets, either FA or they can S&T him...(I prefer S&T)
Step 2: LAL/HOU trade S&T Dwight for Lin/Asik... now we got room for another max with Harden/Dwight
Step 3: Either roll with Bev/Brooks or tell Jennings to bring his ass for 8-10 million, or just save that cap space for 2014 bring in Love... pipe dream would be Bron.
Bev, Harden, White LBJ, Black Chandler Parsons, Dwightmare
Step 4: lol
edit: enter catalyst during Step 3: after trading for Dwight... Sign CP3
CP3, Harden, Parsons, (idgaf), Dwight
Step 4: lol

Nah... that's unrealistic.
IMO the Rockets will sign Dwight outright after trading Asik, T-Rob & two future 1sts for Love. Might have to trade Lin for someone cheaper, but that's ok. Beverley got this. Beverley have it all.
Howard NotSmith
Love D-Mo
Parsons Delfino
Harden Anderson
Beverley Brooks

Re: State of the Roster
from what i read, if we want to keep asik for the time being even after signing howard outright to max, we have to free up another 2mil which shouldn't be hard considering we have an expiring in garcia(6mil) and already cut honeycutt(750k). we can then wait till we get a good offer for asik before trading him right away for another very good PF or something.

Re: State of the Roster
I really don't think Howard's going anywhere, LA are in 8th, he's playing well and although he's a massive a**hole Laker fans are all gonna love him by the end of the season, he wont pass that up.
I have a gut feeling that Smith's gonna be getting a Rocket shaped max contract, although is he really worth a max contract?..really? His stats aren't exactly jaw dropping and iirc he doesn't bring a whole lot of intangibles. One can only speculate!

Re: State of the Roster
Who thinks Dwight could run PF alongside Asik?
More importantly, how many times have I already asked this question then forgotten about it?

Morey 2020.

Re: State of the Roster
fyi you dont need a stretch 4 to be a good playoff team. clippers and nuggets are good examples. u just need to counter your lack of spacing. a healthy dwight, with a good pg, is a perfect counter. im willing to go with a dwight/asik frontcourt. free throws will be a huge problem tho

Heard good things about that...
I would love to try Dwight/Asik... nothing more I would like to have than a big, strong, defensive front court like that.
