HOWEVER, without Smith, we are not good enough. Horford (whom I love) is not a great defender at the rim. If we could trade Smith for a good defensive Center, I'd be right there with y'all. As it is, we go backwards without Smith.
That's assuming no one is able to duplicate his contributions. There are a few young guys out there who can give solid, consistent contributions without the boneheaded plays or poor shooting.
Other teams win all he time without Josh. It's time we became one of them. Nine years is long enough.
You're right - for the most part. I AM assuming it'll be very difficult to find someone to "duplicate his contributions."
May I say that - perhaps - you think it'll be easy to replace him?
He fills up the stat sheet. There are only a few human beings alive who can do all that he does in terms of rebounding, scoring, individual defense, team defense, shot blocking, passing and making steals.
I think that replacing him will be incredibly hard. We'll replace him with "smart" guys who can't do half of what he can do.
Still, (as always) if we could get a good defensive Center for him, I'd be right there with you.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.
