Re: Get to know your fellow Charlotte fans
Why not. You probably won't believe how young I am though.
Age? 18
Location? Latvia
Profession? Would love to study sports journalism in UK, universities haven't replied to my application yet. A year 12 student in high school.
Level of basketball? Have been the captain and leader for a Division 1 underdog team for years. It's my last season of youth basketball. It's hard to say how good the playing field is. One the one hand, Latvia is usually a top10 team in European Youth Championships. On the other hand, we do have a terrible tendency of all our stars falling off the face of earth in the pro game. But that's another story.. I had to play in the youth league all-star game just the other week, but had my first injury in ages by spraining my ankle the previous day. I'm still bummed out.
Compare your game to current/former Bobcat? Gerald Wallace or Michael Kidd-Gilchrist actually might be the best examples in basketball. I play to the death, usually guard the other team's best player and rebound quite well for my size (I'm about 6'2, 6'3, but play a lot of power forward just because I'm a scrappy guy who gets on everybody's nerves). I have a terribly inconsistent shot, so I can completely get lost in the offense, even though I should be one of the main scorers. I get almost all of my points from drives to the basket, in fast-breaks, of offensive rebounds or in the post. You could also compare me to a Dennis Rodman with a decent offensive game, yet a worse rebounder, of course, and not missing as many screws as him.
Why did you become a Bobcats fan? Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson are (or rather were) among my favorite active NBA players. The Jackson trade made me a fan.
Favorite piece of Bobcats history, relevant or irrelevant? The time we beat Boston at home with Eddie Najera hitting that "nail in the coffin" three... I actually don't know, there are a few regular season wins that I absolutely loved, but when you think about it - they don't mean that much.
What does your screen name mean? Lamar Odom + Illmatic. My favorite active NBA player and my favorite music album of all time.
Favorite Bobcat of all-time? Stephen Jackson.
Favorite other NBA players of all-time? Gary Payton, Tim Hardaway, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant (a love/hate relationship), Latrell Sprewell, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Chris Mullin, Chris Gatling, Dennis Rodman (favorite player of all time), Lamar Odom, Calvin Natt, Zach Randolph, Manute Bol, Dikembe Mutombo, Bismack Biyombo, Gerald Wallace.
If you didn’t support the Bobcats what NBA team would you support? Lakers. The connection isn't there any more though. Can't say that I like Dwight joining them. Other than that I've always liked the Warriors, currently just love the post-Melo Nuggets and the Z-Bo/Marc Gasol era in Memphis. But Charlotte and the Lakers have been the only two teams I've rooted for religiously.
Other sports played growing up? Whatever I could play, I did. Soccer, volleyball, ice hockey. But mostly it's just huge amounts of basketball/streetball.
What other sports teams to you support? Chelsea.
Hobbies? Insane amounts of basketball. I almost never miss practice, probably have spent too much of time in training camps or improving myself on my own during summers. One of those freaks who just has to work out. So I love all kinds of active recreation with friends, especially the kind that takes place outside of big cities. I'm obviously someone who's used the vast opportunities of the internet to his advantage to learn about things before my time, so I guess I have to add it to the list as well. Oh and definitely watching unhealthy amounts of basketball.
Favorite music? Golden era of hip hop (I do dig for the good stuff of today's hip hop as well), classic rock, jazz, funk, soul, 80s pop.
Favorite TV shows/movies? The Wire, Lost, Treme, The Office UK, House MD, Friends.
Rebound: The Legend of Earl The Goat Manigault, Pulp Fiction, The Deer Hunter, Fight Club, Sin City, Goodfellas, Snatch, Requiem for a Dream, The Truman Show, Zodiac, Miller's Crossing,
Favorite books: The Sherlock Holmes books, Crime and Punishment, The Breaks of the Game, Loose Balls (the ABA book), The Book of Basketball, Captain Blood, The Godfather.
Tattoos (how many, where)? None.
Your dream team of hot chicks? Scarlett Johansson.
Other sites you visit to waste time (SFW)? Reddit, mixmakers.net.

Re: Get to know your fellow Charlotte fans
Age? 20
Location? Charlotte, but go to school at USC
Profession? none yet
What did you study (or are you studying)? Only just switched to electrical engineering last week
Level of basketball? probably the most inconsistent ever. never gotten a chance to do intermurals yet due to injuries but mostly pickup games.
Compare your game to current/former Bobcat? A 5'6 to 5'7 (6 ft + wingspan though and haha fats I have you beaten by an inch at most, I was worried I'd be the shortest here) less athletic weird hybrid of DJ Augustin and Walter Herrmann actually except I'm small and skinny. I just kind of do whatever I can, which against bigger players (in other words mostly everyone) is getting open and hitting kick out threes, and playing offball defense by my on-ball defense is terrible and I'm really just too skinny to play an inside game
Why did you become a Bobcats fan? I live here
Favorite piece of Bobcats history, relevant or irrelevant? in hindsight? Drafting Kemba Walker
What does your screen name mean? Three members of our core's names smashed together
Favorite Bobcat of all-time? Gerald Wallace, although Kemba, Biz, and MKG are damn close behind, hence the username. also J-Rich is my favorite in-game dunker of all time. Put Walter Herrmann in this discussion as well
Favorite other NBA players of all-time? Dirk, Nash, Marion, Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Tyson Chandler
If you didn’t support the Bobcats what NBA team would you support? Mavs and Thunder
Other sports played growing up? Played 12 years of soccer
What other sports teams to you support? Gamcocks
Hobbies? Listening to music, hanging out with friends, playing basketball, playing basketball video games, talking about basketball
Favorite music? Could go on all day about this: I listening to mainly metal and punk rock or any kind of rock (anything from The Gaslight Anthem (played in Charlotte last night holy **** they were good) to Metallica to Rise Against to Dream Theater) or really just anything.
Favorite TV shows/movies? Not really much of a movie/TV person but Comedy Central is my channel of choice
Tattoos (how many, where)? none, don't plan to
Your dream team of hot chicks? EMMA WATSON

I would have thought that I'm definitely the only one on this board who has heard such a random underground hip hop album.

Re: Get to know your fellow Charlotte fans
I'd probably rank them the same way.
are you into any more abstract/experimental hip hop?
Cannibal Ox, MF DOOM or Company Flow, perhaps?

I'm ashamed to admit that I have not.

No love for Both Sides of the Brain?
No Need for Alarm by virtue of Catch a Bad One alone, then I Wish My George Was Here and Deltron 3030 a very distant third.

I haven't heard it as I can't say that I'm the biggest fan of Del to have listened to three of his solo albums.

Doom is solid. Cliche but I love the Dangermouse album.
If you like old, psychedelic rock and old hip hop, check out Edan's Beauty and the Beat.

Honestly, that's my least favorite DOOM album. I just love the song Old School with Talib Kweli though.
For some odd reason, I've listened to Primitive Plus but haven't heard Beauty and the Beat.

I knew a lot of stuff beforehand, but Simmons's book made me dive in even deeper and take interest in the more forgotten 70s, 80s players. So I guess I was 16.

Nope. I use amcoolio for just about everything. My site, bobcatalley.com, was the original bobcats fan site back in 2004. We eventually merged to bobcatsfans, and then I guess BCP emerged sometime after that. I always prefered RealGM because its always better arguing with fans of other teams. I was big on the ESPN Charlotte Hornets board way, way back in the day, along with hornets_686 and W_HAMILTON, who rarely posts nowadays
