New Mock Draft- 3/10/13 Jazz slump gets them #14 and Burke!

It sucks the Jazz are having a big losing streak after being about 9 games above .500, but the reality is we have a .500 team and we need a PG.
#14 would be very good. WE would probably get Burk, or McCollum, OR maybe trade both picks to move up and get the Syracuse PG.
Would you rather be the #8 seed and get destroyed in the playoffs, or get our PG?

May be too early to talk lottery position (#14) but I like 1 step back for 3 steps forward. And of course I like Trey Burke with his 3,65 assist/turnover ratio.
It's time to jazz with Hayward and Favors!

At this point I am expecting the lottery. With the difficult schedule ahead of us and other teams (Blazers & Mavs) playing better than the Jazz, #12 could even be on the horizon. This way if Burke's stock rises a bit, we will hopefully still be in the right spot to pick him up.
Jazz_Man_86 on Favors:
"He is not Dwight Howard. He's max is 20 + 13 + 2 = is this a supers tats? No."
Dwight 2011-2012 - 20.6 Points - 14.5 Rebounds - 2.1 Blocks

this mock means absolutely nothing. in one week it will change to something else, and then what? no reason to get excited at this point.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Maybe for you, but I will get excited. I am tired of the Jazz having no point guard.
The future is our young core, but we have to get a really good point guard to see the ability of Favors, Kanter and Burke.
Favors is limited offensively, but a pass first PG will reveal his full potential.
Maybe some of us are Draft Geeks.....I will continue to look at every mock draft database....every mock.
Mocks are a good ROUGH idea of what might be available. It is exciting to see some talent in the 12-16.
I admit to being a draft nerd.

you are preaching to the choir, my friend. i follow mocks religiously, for the same reasons you mentioned, as well as watch plenty of college BB for those reasons, even though i really don't enjoy it.
but getting worked up because one mock had us taking burke 109 days before the draft, before the season is over, before the final team spots were determined, before players have declared for the draft, before the lottery, before NCAA tournament, before the combine, before the pre draft workouts and all that - there is no use for that. mocks are changed every week. why get excited that one mock say we take burke at this point of the season, when the same mock will probably change who we take next week? save yourself the energy and inner fire for a "fire corbin and get off you a$$ you passive front office" demonstration. that's a more pressing need.

yes, which is why there is no need to get worked up. it doesn't tell us anything we don't already know. we know based on the jazz's record where our higher pick will be, and we already know burke's draft range. this mock tells us nothing new.

I am only excited because the pain of losing a lot and ruining a good season is replaced by the joy of getting a lower pick.

I'm still not crazy about the point guard crop this year ... It figures that in the year we get a good lottery pick the strongest position in the draft would be CENTER.

I think MIchigan will hit at least Sweet 16...so Burke is likely to be best PG option in Draft....so one of the top 5 will pick Smart for his SG skills, but the first team to want a PG is likely to pick Burke over Williams or McCollum.
Personally if we could get the guys at our spots right now, I would hella want them. A new PG and a new great big man for 3 man rotation with Favors and Kanter...but were likely to sign Jefferson to a multi-year deal even though we have Kanter...

Re: New Mock Draft- 3/10/13 Jazz slump gets them #14 and Bu
If we are at #14 it really helps us..We get to pick before Hawks, Bucks and Celtics now, which will be the difference we need.
I am afraid of Pistons and Dallas, which would easily be the two biggest contenders for a PG in draft. Even at 14, they both can pick MCW and Burke with Smart being picked up by at least Suns.
Looking at Dallas Depth Chart, they need another big man with Dirk, but their back court is probably gone after season both OJ and Collison, I wish they both would stay and give us a chance!!
Pistons got Claderon but they don't have contracts with him and he will also be gone by offseason. They still have Knight, Stucky and English through next year, but both PG's Bynum and Claderon aren't signed on....Meaning we got two teams with empty backcourts, and no-name bigmen for most of their frontcourts....it can go either way.
Which leads me to believe these teams will look to FA for a PG. Dallas is likely to go after CP3 with Cubans generous wallet and with a big deal. But I see them both teams still threats in draft even with all the big men around in draft, and big names in FA Pool. With CP3, Jennings, Evans, and some other FA's, I want to believe that both teams get someone, and use draft for other positions which they lack.

Kelly Olynyk may become a decent bencher. But I'd like to get another guard (McCollum in best case scenario).

not that it matters, but DX finally updated their draft board. they have the jazz at 14 taking olynyk - passing on both burke and mccollum. with the 21st pick they have the jazz taking tony mitchell. they also moved up wolters a few spots, behind leo westermann. canaan stayed the same (i think,or maybe lost a spot).

There's some silver lining there though. We probably won't be drafting in the top 4-5, and if it's a good big man draft, there will be guards who are overlooked or fall because big men are more valuable. Every draft has some fantastic guards drafted in the top 10. Every single one. This is why I want us to trade for picks or tank, because only needing a guard or wing is a huge luxury for a team drafting that high. I'm not a general proponent of drafting by position, but we could use an all-star point, SG or SF. If we got into the top 10 in 2014, I guarantee we'll draft a very, very good player. This year, we'll get someone solid, but I think next year is our year.

IIRC DX doesn't start considering "team needs" in their mocks until much closer to the draft.
