Just a few questions to Bobcats fans.

Post#1 » by KingzAndQueenz » Sun Mar 10, 2013 5:58 am

1) As a Bobcats fan, do you still get upset when your team loses?

2) What inspires you as a fan and keeps you rooting for them? Watching the young talent develop?

3) Have you transitioned into more of an NBA fan in general rather than a Bobcats fan? For instance, Heat fans are die-hard Heat fans. Their team is always in contention and most probably don't care about other teams. As a Bobcats fan, do you care more about other teams?

Thanks, just curious.

1). Perhaps momentarily, but not for long since it's expected and we're not going anywhere regardless of if we win the next game. It's more frustrating than upsetting, but even then the game threads (and the Lolcats themselves, of course) are always good for some laughs.
2). I like basketball and I want to see the city of Charlotte prosper.
3). I would continue to watch other teams play regardless of the Bobcats' record.
Humble yourself.

1) Only in a very close game, I'm used to it. All I'll say is I'll be one hell of a happy dude in a couple years when we start to win on a regular basis because I get very excited when we win any games.

2) For one, I live here, and two, Kemba Walker has been a hell of a lot of fun to watch. If he hadn't broken out, I'm not sure I'd be watching games on a regular basis- we'd also be like a 4-win team right now.

3) I always have been an NBA fan in general with a focus on the Bobcats and the Mavericks (the team I followed when Charlotte didn't have a team about 9-10 years ago when I started closely following the NBA, but I still follow them a little closer than most other teams) but surprisingly in the last couple years is only when I started becoming a die-hard Bobcats fan, mostly because of RealGM in fact.

KingzandQueenz, is this supposed to be a mental health evaluation? Do you think we're insane or something?

Haha, no not at all. It's just that I've been really disappointed in the Knicks' recent play and I feel myself gravitating towards just becoming a general fan of NBA basketball. I like watching all teams now, and though I still root for the Knicks, I feel like I can't invest as much energy into the team because I can't stand having my expectations shattered. Stoudemire going down, etc. So I was wondering if Bobcats fans felt similarly in terms of being a general NBA fan, and still caring about your team, but not really having as high expectations.

1) Not when they lose, but when they don't compete (which has been happening a lot lately).

2) Developing talent is a big reason I watch (keeping my eyes peeled for the light at the end of the tunnel), but it's a frustrating process. You hear a lot of Bobcats' fans labeling young guys busts who have only been in the league a year or two. It takes a lot of patience and looking out for the little areas of improvement (Biz's free throws, Kemba's assists, Mullens boarding a bit)

3) Actually, no. I'm a diehard Bobcats fan and probably always will be - its a roots thing. Most of the rest of the league doesn't interest me.

1) As a Bobcats fan, do you still get upset when your team loses?

There were times this season when I really wanted a win against a high profile team for morale and credibility, like recently we blew a game at home against the Lakers or Celtics. But on the whole, I expected this team to miss the playoffs. When we started 7-5 I selfishly worried about draft position because I really wanted Shabazz. I think once I realized we were in the tank, I felt more at peace with all the loses. It's truly embarrassing but the silver lining is draft position.

2) What inspires you as a fan and keeps you rooting for them? Watching the young talent develop?

The one thing I'm happy about is Kemba Walker. I hope to get McLemore in this draft and Wiggins in 2014. So what inspires me is hope.

3) Have you transitioned into more of an NBA fan in general rather than a Bobcats fan? For instance, Heat fans are die-hard Heat fans. Their team is always in contention and most probably don't care about other teams. As a Bobcats fan, do you care more about other teams?

I'm a lifelong New York Yankees fan but to be honest their product is far less interesting to me now than it was in 2000. I think 2001 was the last year I felt excited about the Yankees. Now it's just a bunch of overpaid stiffs hogging the spotlight and duping fans in order to collect a gross paycheck without backlash.

And as a fan of a behemoth team things can get stale if a front office becomes too risk-averse and you see the same cast of characters over and over even though the formula clearly isn't working like it did in 2000. It's an insult to fan's intelligence. Their complacence diffuses your own enthusiasm.

The Bobcats give me something fresh, a little more innocent and unpredictable. And when they start to compete it will be all the more satisfying. I think if the yankees won another World Series I'd be happy but if the Bobcats won? I'd go berserk. I think being a Bobcats fan appeals to someone who pulls for the underdog over the frontrunner. Even though I'm a Yankees fan, I do pull for the underdog outside of the Yankees. And the fact that I grew up in CT and was a diehard Huskies and Kemba fan also helps. That was an underdog team for years and the team Kemba carried at the end was also an underdog. I want to be able to say I was here from the beginning and I'm not ashamed of being a Bobcats fan. My best friend and I have talked Yankees our whole lives but now when we talk I try to get him to talk NBA. He's a Knicks fan. Last year when the fan base turned on Melo (Linsanity fallout) I would float horrible trades to him just to test him - like Tyrus Thomas plus more filler for Melo's contract. And he would say yes! haha. He's shocked I'm a Bobcats fan and also totally baffled as to how we can be so bad. I talk about the Bobcats at work constantly. I definitely don't hide it.

Say what you will about Yankees fans - we're not bandwagoners especially if we're born in raised in NY Metro area.

:o :x I am more frustrated than mad . When they lose, they deserve to lose and when they win they have earned the win. I think Bobcat fans over the years have continued to shake their heads that management has only been able to put 1 playoff team together. The draft decisions have been emotional at times rather than thought through. Examples ..Augustine over Brook Lopez...Morrison over Rudy Gay.....Sean May over Danny Granger and recent selections MKG vus trading down last year for multiple picks..or a young vet. The players we let walk like Felton and Chandler now starting for Knicks. Cho needs to do his magic in next 3 seasons or this franchise could be the laughing stock of the NBA.

Kemba's development as a NBA star point has been entertaining to watch, but is coming along slow because of the pieces around him. He needs a young upcoming star like himself at center. Maybe Plumlee is that person. Its not Biz. Someone like Kanter would have been perfect. Something needs to be done now, otherwise KW like so many others will say Bye when his contract comes up.

I am a die hard Hornets/Bobcats fan since 1989. The only other team I rooted for was the Bulls when MJ was playing. I still BEE-leive that he will win an NBA Championship as an owner. :D

1. resignation, more than upset. Losing is a given at this point.
2. Location, they're my "local" team. There is no star talent on this team to watch develop. The best players, i.e. Kemba, MKG are ideally suited as either 6th man scoring options or defensive role players. The sheer lack of talent on this team is astonishing.
3. Heat fans are NOT diehard Heat fans. Heat fans are trendy hipster bandwagon fans. Once they Heat lose the big 3, they will go back to averaging 13-14k in their arena.

1) As a Bobcats fan, do you still get upset when your team loses?

Not really. We're supposed to be terrible and we definitely reached that goal. Re-ask me this again in 2014-2015 when we should be trending upwards out of the rebuild.

2) What inspires you as a fan and keeps you rooting for them? Watching the young talent develop?

No choice. Always rooted for the hometeam, always will. Watching the youth develop is fun though b/c I'm a huge draft nerd and I also really enjoy trying to anticipate the FO's moves.

3) Have you transitioned into more of an NBA fan in general rather than a Bobcats fan? For instance, Heat fans are die-hard Heat fans. Their team is always in contention and most probably don't care about other teams. As a Bobcats fan, do you care more about other teams?

Not really. Usually by playoffs time I'm rooting for some underdogs to knock out the ESPN darlings like the Heat, Lakers, Celtics, etc.

dunno why everyones always so caught up in the team they follow being the "champion." you're just a fan, its not your championship, you didn't win anything. you don't get in the sports fan hall of fame after you die because the teams you root for won a bunch of rings.

besides being a local, I follow them because its an interesting narrative. rebuilding from complete scratch, brand drama, Michael Jordan, the worst team of all time etc. its as interesting a story as any team in the league. imo thats why people like us post on RealGM. discuss the introduction of new characters, next plot twist, build up in the story, climaxes, the exit of formerly loved characters etc. if it was just about basketball and winning these forums would be dull

1) As a Bobcats fan, do you still get upset when your team loses? Not really, it's kind of sad now that I think about it.

2) What inspires you as a fan and keeps you rooting for them? Watching the young talent develop? Pretty much this for me.

3) Have you transitioned into more of an NBA fan in general rather than a Bobcats fan? For instance, Heat fans are die-hard Heat fans. Their team is always in contention and most probably don't care about other teams. As a Bobcats fan, do you care more about other teams? I follow LeBron so whoever's team he is on I follow that team because I have always been drawn to him because he came into the league as the anti Kobe.

It is all in the eyes of the beholder I guess but I respectfully disagree. Coach K openly admits that Duke fans are a big part of their success and a part of the team.

8-) 1) As a Bobcats fan, do you still get upset when your team loses?

Of course! I never like to watch my team lose but I'd rather lose short term to win long term, I understand this and want us to be more than a small market 7-8 seed.

2) What inspires you as a fan and keeps you rooting for them? Watching the young talent develop?

I love my team and consider UNC the spiritual home of basketball (no disrespect to NYC which is more the symbol)
First or last Charlotte basketball inspires me and I'll be here through thick and thin, I love our core at the moment though, Kemba, MKG and Biz plus a couple of top five pick$.

3) Have you transitioned into more of an NBA fan in general rather than a Bobcats fan? For instance, Heat fans are die-hard Heat fans. Their team is always in contention and most probably don't care about other teams. As a Bobcats fan, do you care more about other teams?

I have always been a hardcore NBA supporter but I am die hard Bobcats, I buy merchandise and watch as many games as I can (to see us get blown out by 20) I lurk or post on Realgm basically every day and lurk BCP (great site) every day also (but rarely post), I do suggest you also have a look at Bobcatsplanet.com to see how many "crazy" Bobcats "super"fans are about and how loyal they are.

Between RGM and BCP the Bobcats have a cult following in a local, national and international setting 8-)
