Boldin traded to Niners

Post#1 » by Mamba Mentality » Mon Mar 11, 2013 8:29 pm

Just got an update on my phone. Niners only gave up a 6th rounder as far as I'm hearing, that's highway robbery.

EDIT:

The Baltimore Ravens agreed to trade receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers, the team they beat last month in the Super Bowl, sources confirmed to ESPN.

The Ravens will receive a sixth-round draft choice in return, the sources said.

Understatement of the day. Just unbelievable how cheap they got him.

DAFUQ are the Ravens thinking?

There offense will be bad without him as the deep threat. Then Flacco will be viewed as overpaid. And the drama ensues.

Boldin wasn't Baltimore's deep threat, Jacoby Jones is. Flacco will miss Boldin as a possession guy, and that's what will bite them in the ass... Even though Boldin could've taken the pay cut.

Jacoby Jones was a situational guy, Torrey Smith was and has been their deep threat the past two seasons.

Whoops. That's who I meant. I was just thinking more of that play against the Broncos.

Nepitism at its finest.

Looks like this is John's pity gift for his brother for taking his Super Bowl trophy

Congrats Niners.. you guys got a great football player, person and leader in your locker-room next year. Thank you so much for everything you've done for the franchise. One of my favorite players on the team, sucks to see him go but wish him only the best.

you're gonna be missed, Q.

he is going to be 33 by the time next season starts, not sure if any other team would offer anything more. great pick up for the niners regardless.

I would have given up a third rounder for Anquan. I understand them trading out of the conference, but at what price? I imagine they could have gotten better value.

Brotherly love.....Harbaugh style.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but the NFL should look into this.

Baltimore must've been REALLY desperate to drop his contract...

They told Boldin he had to take a pay cut to stay. He balked. Everyone knew they HAD to release him so the Ravens took whatever they could get. He had to be moved by tomorrow (bonus due) so there wasn't much time to troll for offers or leverage anything.

Not many teams want to, or can afford to pay $6M for an oft-injured 33-year old receiver that doesn't run patterns beyond 12 yards. The Texans would have loved to have him but they don't have any cap room. Ditto OAK and CAR. He fills the one-year rental WR role in SF. Boldin has a lot more to offer than Randy Moss did though, provided he doesn't clash with the culture like he did in ARI and at FSU.

It's going to be delicious watching Flacco struggle while he wonders what the hell happened, with absolutely no clue it's pretty much all his fault. I hope he enjoys the $$. In three years he'll be forced to renegotiate or get cut and he won't sniff $10M/yr.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Great trade, but I guess this is the end for safety Goldson and TE Walker for the Niners, unless they come back cheap. Crabtree, Boldin and Manningham (when he comes back healthy) will be a deadly combination for them next year. Was hoping the Niners would bring out the big bucks and offer Cruz something since they have a 1st to spare (the 2nd that KC is so close to it), but that's just not their style.
