Yes. It also requires the acute swelling to subside before you get an accurate idea of how bad it is and even then, it's still just an educated guess.

It's an odd play to try and hurt a guy no? I mean it's Kobe Bryant, you'd figure any contact would be called a foul, so it doesn't make sense he'd try something like that on such an important play. He should have been more careful, and maybe the league needs to do something about these types of plays in general, but it looked like a lack of consideration at worse, than an attempt to hurt anyone. Even Dahntay has come out and said it wasn't on purpose.
