well, I specifically said that any single set of numbers need to be viewed a bit skeptically

I think when several different metrics tend to show the same thing, you can probably assume there is some valid factors at work

I absolutely agree. Just my personal vendetta against those specific statistics.

Great size for a SF but you can definitely see that he's still in the midst of transitioning from being a combo forward and playing a lot on the interior to becoming more of a true SF. His perimeter game looks rather under developed, looking pretty rigid handling the ball with little change of direction ability. Shooting looks like it needs work as well. The form is good but just looks a tad stiff. He's good at cutting from the weak side and roaming the baseline for easy finishes. Also like his ability to grab o boards and finish. His size, leaping ability and nice open court speed also allows him to play pretty effectively in transition although his ball handling and change of direction problems show up a bit here too.

Defensively he looks ok to me right now but with the tools to be very good. A guy that could average a steal and a half with block which is very nice, just question his ability to stay with quicker guys as his lateral quickness doesn't look great. His length should help him compensate though and should get better as he gets use to playing and defending on the perimeter.

Lillard is putting up all nba first or second team performances right now. Rookie or not its impressive.

GhostsOfGil wrote:^ Good response Wiz. His defensive on/off numbers are +2, like you said, but I hardly consider that a significant gap. But your right, Beals dRTG is getting a statistical bump from guys like Nene (dRTG 100) Wall (97!) and Okafor (98). The good news is that Beal's defensive progression has been fantastic.

Wiz is the best poster on real gm. Now if he'd only learn the difference between then and than.

If my numbers are right, Lillard's last 8 games

ppg 24.75 6.6 asist

fg 73- 134 = 54%

3pt 23 / 49 = 46%

Scary numbers

You should check out his TO's too. In those same 8 games, he's only averaged 2 TO's to that 6.6 asts.

His numbers have been insane ever since he got a 2nd competent ball handler in Maynor to help take some pressure off of him.

I think part of it was Batum has also gotten better at being a potential primary ball handler. I realize Batum is not really a PG in a SF body, but he is getting better at getting the ball to the right guy at the right time.

Lillard's efficiency definitely took a bit of a hit around the same time Batum's wrist problems started, which really has limited him and he's only starting to learn to play through. So yeah, that's probably got a little to do with it, but I don't think as much as Maynor. Once Maynor got to the team and got accustomed to the team, it's been like night and day for Lillard. Teams can't afford to double team him as much and he can play off the ball more so he's not having to initiate the offence on almost every single possession.

Some more historical perspective on Lillard's rookie season.....

It was the eighth consecutive game Lillard has scored at least 20 points — the longest streak by a Blazers rookie since Calvin Natt in 1980. And in his 64th career game, Lillard became the fastest player to score 1,200 points and record 400 assists since Allen Iverson in 1996-97.

Also.....

With 18 game left, Damian Lillard already has more 20+ point games (34) than Derrick Rose had in his rookie season (32).

It'd be cool if they snuck in, but it's going to be next to impossible. They've let too many easy wins slip by this year and this final stretch of the season is going to be BBRRRUUUUTTTTAAALLLL. It's much more likely that they take a big slide considering the level of competition they're going up against the rest of the way. This is their schedule to finish the year.....

vs DET
@ PHI
@ MIL (2nd night of a B2B)
@ CHI
@ ATL (2nd night of a B2B)
@ OKC
vs BKN
vs UTA
@ GSW (2nd night of a B2B)
@ UTA
vs MEM
vs HOU
vs DAL
vs LAL
vs OKC
@ DEN
@ LAC
vs GSW (2nd night of a B2B)

That's a lot of road games, a lot of B2B's and a lot of playoffs teams for them to go through to sneak into the playoffs. This is my prediction for their final games.....

vs DET - W
@ PHI - W
@ MIL (2nd night of a B2B) - L
@ CHI - L
@ ATL (2nd night of a B2B) - L
@ OKC - L
vs BKN - L
vs UTA - W
@ GSW (2nd night of a B2B) - L
@ UTA - L
vs MEM - L
vs HOU - L
vs DAL - W
vs LAL - W
vs OKC - L
@ DEN - L
@ LAC - L
vs GSW (2nd night of a B2B) - L

That's 18 games and I have them optimistically going 5 - 13. They always play the Lakers great in the RG and can give a couple of other teams runs for their money in Portland, but those road games are brutal. Plus, a lot of those road games are in places the Blazers historically ALWAYS struggle at, particularly Denver, OKC, Utah and Golden State to name a few.

For them to overcome that schedule AND have the teams above them falter enough to let Portland sneak in..... I won't be holding my breath.

i'm sorry but they don't deserve it, they were too inconstant all season, many L and blowouts against weak teams. also 18 games left and 15 vs 500+ teams.

on the other hand lillard is a joy to watch.

Lillard In March - 7 games played

MPG 38.6
FG% - 63.3%
3P% - 43.2%
FT% - 86.7%

25 PPG, 7 APG, 2.4 RPG, 1.1 SPG, and 1.6 TO

Having Maynor has really helped him out. Hes able to play off the ball and be effective where before teams just doubled him every time he touched it. Will be interesting if he can keep it up. I'm not seeing much of a rookie wall for him.
