Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
I got Dip/Porter/Bazz,
I think Dips a game changer defensively who can shut down PGs and SGs and in this era of the Westbrook,Irvings and Roses thats valuable. I also think hes an efficient 3rd option who has the potential to develop into a 2nd option. after reading about he and his dads situation I give him bonus points because I think he may have that Barry edge, that drive to prove something to pops.
I think Porters that guy whos key to any successful team, the defensive glue guy who can spread the floor. but he also has a nice mid range game and some playmaking ability which makes him more than just a 3 and D guy.
Bazz is talented, but right now he's a chucker who doesnt really have a true position. and chuckers rarely change their stripes.

Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
Porter's the one I'd be happiest with. His game is the most well-rounded, and he's an actual SF. Heard nothing but good things about him.
Shabazz is a little undersized for the 3. He's not super athletic, but he's the most consistent scorer of the bunch. The few times I've seen him, he's shown some good instincts and craftiness offensively. That said, I don't know how his defense will hold up in the NBA. He's probably got the most potential of the bunch, but he's not a perfect fit for the 2 or the 3. And he got a diva rep when he pouted after his teammate scored the game winner, and he didn't get the shot. And of course there's the whole NCAA investigation to start the season, not that it's a terribly unique or meaningful occurrence.
Oladipo is more of a 2. He's the same size as Stuckey, and I'm sick of seeing Stuck play the 3. He'll bring our defense up a notch, but he's the weakest scorer of the bunch. Most of his scoring comes from transition, aided by his defense, and I don't entirely trust that 3-point percentage. He doesn't make a whole lot of sense for us unless you believe he's going to be better than Knight, or that Knight is going to pan out as a PG.
I take Porter, easily. He's simultaneously the safest choice and the best fit for our position of need.
They would all start for this team ahead of Singler.

I think Muhammad and Oladipo are SG's but I would go Muhammad then Porter then Oladipo. I think Shabazz is one of the few players in this draft that has allstar potential and fills our biggest need of a scoring wing who can knock down 3's.

With Detroit possibly 4th after the Washington win, this is going to be one interesting draft...

Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
1. Shabazz. He's the protoypical swingman in that he can legitimately play both positions. He's a natural scorer with the best work ethic of anybody in the draft. You draft a guy like him and you can potentially have the hardest working back court in the NBA. Offensively, I think he's going to be a guy who we see develop into an all star and contribute year 1. I also think his athleticism is vastly underrated. He was not in game shape in the beginning and that hindered his athleticism. He'll benefit from a spaced out game.

2. Porter. If you watched Greg Monroe in college, then you've seen the big man version of Porter. Defensively he's going to be at best average guarding the 3. I honestly see him as a stretch 4 in the NBA. His footspeed is below average.
3. Oladipo. Tony Allen with a corner 3 or Thabo on Sterioids. Not a fan of a role player in the lotto.

Only Porter is an NBA SF.
Bazz and VO are SGs at the next level.

who said Dip was a SF? he's definitely a SG.
but, my only concern with Dip is with his height, im hoping he measures at least 6'4''.
Edit- I guess I didnt read the thread title or the OP too closely.

Bazz seems selfish... In three games I can count on one hand I've seen him pass it...
Olalipo will always shoot a high % because of his intagible efforts.... he's difference maker
Would also be happy with Porter.

Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
Tough call for me because I don't watch college ball and so am basically going off scouting reports. I think it's clear we need a go-to-scorer at either the 2 or 3. Somebody who can create their own shot and space the floor. Bazz seems to be that guy, but nothing wrong with drafting the defensive or 2-way player and adding the scorer via FA or trade at the other wing position. As of now I'd be inclined to go Porter, Muhammad Olalipo.

Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
Shabazz obviously has the most potential. I think Oladipo will turn out to be a long term solid starter in the NBA. I agree with the people saying Porter is the only NBA SF of the bunch, but I'd still pick one of the others ahead of him and look for a SF elsewhere if they all happened to be available.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

How do they rank in the following:
People aren't often bringing up Porter's skinny frame. How has it limited him so far?
- Man-to-man defense?
Covering Monta Ellis?
Covering Kevin Durant?
Covering Lebron James?
Ball handling (including handling in traffic)?
Getting all the way to the hole in a half-court defense?
Not making Rip/Daye-type decisions with the ball (i.e. not passing the ball to the other team)?
Splitting a double team?
Passing out of a double team?
Driving and dishing?
Pick and roll?
Set shot off of a pass?
Shot off of the dribble (clearing space for it and making it)?
Mid-range pull-up jumper with a defender in his face?
Getting open off of picks?

Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
I'm hoping we get Shabazz. This team needs an alpha dog who wants to go toe to toe with the Kobe's, Westbrook's, Harden's of the world and that's Shabazz. A guy who can create his own shot and go off for 40 would do wonders for the rest of our young players. I'd be fine with Porter but we could sign Tony Allen or Igoudala and get the same thing Olandipo brings. Wings who can play D and hit a corner 3 can usually be had in the mid to late 1st, guys who can score 20 a night are not.

Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
i dont watch a ton of college ball but i read a fair bit about it and im not sure i like any of them. probably goes shabazz, oladipo then porter for me. tbh, id prefer whoever we take to be a sixth man for us in the future. we have 3 positions solid, we need 2 wings that i hope we sign in free agency. hopefully the starting wings contain a great shooter at one of them, and a great athlete who can defend star wings at the other. which one goes where im not concerned, but lets get a full starting lineup. mayo and iggy makes the most sense.
i look at oladipo as pretty similar to how lance stephenson is working for the pacers right now. tough defensive and athletic player, can handle the ball a bit (play backup point a little hopefully) and could run the lanes with knight. for the argument i saw saying he would be someone we can use to guard guys like westbrook, rose and irving.. i think knight is someone who is more than capable of giving those guys a hard time, so i wouldnt place too much on that, but i think id prefer a little more size and shooting at the 2.
shabazz seems to make the most sense, he could play either wing i think in the nba, and be someone to excite the fans and give the game a little kickstart with a few highlight plays. probably the highest potential level too. seems like he could be a good fit with some of our players.
i do not want porter at all, want something new, havent seen too much of him but get the idea he will be fairly close to tayshaun as a lenthy smart player. one of his biggest weaknesses though is his jumpshot, without a jumpshot he doesnt help out in a sixth man role and is nothing more than a role player, seems to be the most unlikely to take the next step, or ever be a star.

I was coming to say exactly this. Even if he's not as talented as the names you rattled off - just that mentality alone goes a long way.
Muhammed and it's not even close for me. Porter reminds me too much of Prince and we need a go-to scorer, not a complimentary at this stage and Oladipo seemingly came out of nowhere as a junior.

Alright you guys changed my mind toward Shabazz. However don't you think Oladipo can be a go-to scorer? He's on a good team and still manages to score 15 ppg. Same goes for Porter except hes on a worse team and scores man than Dip.

Re: SF Prospect Debate: Porter vs. Oladipo vs Muhammad
Shabazz and Oladipo are the two guys I want most from this draft. Shabazz has that same Drummond feel to him; drop to us on draft night aftter being a consensus top guy and then blossom. I think Shabazz has the potential to be a go-to scorer and a helluva player.
But I absolutely love Oladipo. I long for defense, for a guy you can put on Irving or Rose or Paul George. Dipo is going to be an elite defender, a guy who can guard the 1-3 methinks. Isn't that what we have been clamoring for for years; a lock-down defender. Imagine Drummond guarding the paint and Oladipo on the other teams best wing player...that's back to Detroit basketball. He's got a great motor too and will work his tail off no matter what. And it brings some athleticism to the wing, as the kid is a major athlete. Finally, his biggest flaws are very teachable, which can't be overstated. I love players like this.
I like Porter too, he's got that all-around feel to him and seems the most natural 3. If we end of with any of the three I'm happy but its Shabazz/Dipo as 1a and 1b and Porter as 2.
