Sports science: Lebron best basketball athlete all time

Post#1 » by Heats_Finest » Sat Mar 16, 2013 6:42 am

ESPN, Sports science measured players across all sports in a different range of categories such a durability, versatility, difficulty of sport, speed, clutch, power etc. everything you could measure, and Lebron came out 3rd of all time across any sport, Jordan ranked 4th all time. Bo Jackson best of all time.

Doesnt have the athletes who didn't get picked by the fans though.

That's some stupid **** right there.

ESPN's "Sports science" is a joke in general.

If we were to discuss LBJ's place in as an athlete (not a player) in the history of basketball, he might have a case to be in the top 5.

I believe Shaq, MJ, Chamberlain had a bigger physical advantage then LBJ has. Could probably find a few more names.

wtffffffff

Did you just put Shaq above lebron as far as being athlete.

Jordan, Lebron.

No two other "athletes" are with those two guys. Period

Still curious to why OP made this thread when clearly it has Lebron second not 1st.

No, Shaq was the LeBron of centers when he came out. He was bigger, stronger, faster and more coordinated than 90% of the big men in the league at the time. I remember watching him as a phenom when he was drafted, and I immediately thought he was going to be the GOAT. If Shaq had cared a little about staying in shape, and working on his FTs I have no doubt in my mind he would be mentinoed amongst if not as the all time greatest basketball players and athletes.

If you never saw Shaq in his prime (no, Cavs's Shaq and even Heat Shaq wasn't close to it) he destroyed the league for years with a very limited skillset. how did he do it? amazing combination of size, power and speed. A combination never seen before or since. LBJ is more skillful, Shaq dominated physically like no other.
Scary to think what he could do in today's league against today's Centers.

A couple other guys that might be able to hang with LBJ in terms of athleticism (not talent or overall game) are Shawn Kemp and Dominique Wilkins.

He dominated legendary centers in an era of legendary centers; it wasn't just because he was big. Any team who drafted him today would be an instant contender. There's a reason his team was the only one that beat Mj in the playoffs in the 90s, dude was dominant.

I think D-Rob could also have a case for Top 5 all time (basketball).

I watched the tv show. The 57 percent of the vote was by the public to decide which basketball player to put in the bracket of 16. They then said if you take away the bracket, and add some other sports superstars, Lebron comes in 3rd in our rankings, Jordan overall 4th.

Shaq wasn't limited at all. Had great footwork. A nice jump hook. Handles. Passing vision.

What an ignorant statement that shows your limited knowledge on the game. Shaq over his career, and in the playoffs dominated Hakeem far more than the other way around. Just because one series was played, where Hakeem happened to get the better of Shaq, doesn't make it fact for their careers.

No they didn't. Just admit your error and be done with it. They say the same thing on the link they said on TV.

http://www.topendsports.com/world/lists/greatest-all-time/basketball-espn.htm

A poll about the Greatest Basketballer of All Time was conducted on the ESPN Sport Science website in 2012. The voting was based on the best athlete (not player) who has a combination of strength, speed, endurance, quickness, durability and the other attributes that make an athlete elite. See more about the ESPN Sport Science poll to determine the Greatest Athlete of All Time. See also our discussion of the greatest ever basketball player.

Nominees

Who is the greatest basketball athlete of all time?

Michael Jordan
LeBron James
Wilt Chamberlain
Kobe Bryant
Magic Johnson

And the winner was ...

Michael Jordan, a clear leader with 57 percent of the vote.

Of course sports science has little to to with sports or science and is just more "shiny" to try to keep the regular espn viewers attention.
