Lawson has shown signs he can be that guy. Might be another season or so because its confirmed that he can be though.

possibly, but if Lawson's the guy, then Dre Miller needs to be the point. Lawson can't afford to do both because ball movement would be sacrificed.
Lawson's been their most consistent scorer this year.

I agree with you.. but my only thing is you have to move some guys around and change some roles to have the right foundation built around Melo.

But to be fair... since he's been in NY he hasn't quite been the closer he was in Denver.. especially in the playoffs.

Miller is always in the game down the stretch in close games for them.

Eh, Melo has come through in the clutch plenty for us in the regular season.
In the playoffs, not so much.

I don't know Raylan... 1 game winner this year.. last one before that was last year's Chicago game. Heck Durant could fill up a games stat sheet with the amount of late game shots in that span.

True, but i'm just saying he needs to be there.
Also, if he's in the game, then the team's probably playing small, with Faried at center. Will that work in the playoffs? The only team I can see playing small is the Clippers b/c DeAndre can't hit free throws to save his life. Maybe Houston may play small, but other than that, i don't see anyone else playing small against them.

how many game winners does durant have this year?
melo has also his fair share of late game shots even if they weren't "the shot" i.e. at brooklyn, at minny, etc.

But you're not counting those games like Orlando or Denver at home where he scored the last like 12 points in the qtr and put the game away.
Clutch isn't always a game winner. Though I do admit, he has been lacking in those. Then again, I can only think of three occasions where it came down to one shot this season...And Melo is 1/3

I'm just talking about game winners. Guys of his ilk should produce in the 4th quarter... he's got them shaky hands now man..

Drun53 wrote:KnicksGod wrote:OK Denver is awesome. It's depth and good coaching that has built a system of defense and running. They are a really good defensive team and held the Thunder down on the road. Big win for them, who knows how far they can go. Lawson and Faried lead the way on that club -- they are their best two players IMO. A nice 9 and 5 from Wilson.
Gallo contributed but that shooting is just terrible. 4-17 and 2-8. He's comparable to JR as far as shooting many nights, with good D and certainly very nice intangibles. But even JR rebounds and can play good D, and make some good passes.
It doesn't seem to matter. Even Iguodala shoots poorly often and they still keep rolling.
Gallo has definitely gotten better at contributing when he isn't shooting well, but it's still maddening how inconsistent his shooting can be on a game-to-game basis. There was a stretch where you felt surprised when he missed; now it's surprising when he makes a shot. Lol.
He used to be completely lost when not shooting well, though...he was still involved in the game this time around. Also, Gallo's shot selection and IQ to move the ball and not stagnate an offense is better than JR's.
He's definitely better than JR. His defense is really good and he is still drawing lots of fouls, though less than before. He's surprising me because he is one of the main cogs on a really, really good team. So I already feel like I'm being proven wrong.
However, they, and Gallo, must win a playoffs series though, or it's just hollow.
I do really think Gallo and even Iguodala, probably Wilson too, and their centers as well -- all of that good but not All-Star depth -- would be going nowhere without 1) Lawson, 2) Faried and 3) Karl. I guess that kind of knocks Gallo but it's just what I think. It's a plug-and-play, interchangeable system that Karl has built but they do need the PG play and Faried or else it would be mediocre ...
... for that reason, I'll also mention Andre Miller. I think they'd be a lot worse without him too frankly.

You want him 3/3?
Even Durant ain't giving you that

JR Smith has more game winners than Melo this year, but he is certainly not nearly as clutch.

Re: Around the nba part 6
Whoah, I honestly didn't know that Andre had 20 and 9 tonight when I paid him a compliment above. They need him to stay healthy. He's such a huge piece on that team. He's better than ever really. Combined with Lawson, that's arguably the best PG play in the league.
Gallo adds into the 4-17 (2-8) tonight: 8 rebounds 3 assists 3 steals 1 block (3 turnovers). Those are really good fillers on the stat sheet. It's just that in the playoffs, you must knock down shots. And you won't draw as many fouls because the D will be tighter and more careful.
Thunder are not going to get it this year. Maybe we see a Westbrook-for-Rondo kind of deal emerge in the off-season.

I don't want to get into in depth again.. let's just say I've watched a ton of basketball in my day and I've played a ton of basketball... and when you see one small twitch.. or one small hesitation... it's the beginnings of more to come. Do you guys know what the yips are?

Andre Miller is a stud... he's always been relatively healthy so they should be fine there.

But he's getting up there in age. LOL you and I had this conversation in the context of Nash and you promised me he'd be healthy for good. Though admittedly he's been healthy since the start. Still think older players can "go at any time."
But yeah, Andre is really just a great PG.
