I lol'ed.

4-4. Scoreline after 60 minutes 4-0 for Germany then they all went into sleep mode.

German commentator wanted a foul on the last goal against Ibrahimovic but IMO Mertesacker fell way too easy on that one.

4-0
4-4

this is surreal.

Image

Badstuber, Mertesacker, Boateng and Neuer are definitely to blame for this.
But come on, Löw doesn't understand anything about defense. I still don't know what exactly he does bring to the table. What is his strength? What's special about him? If you have attacking players like Gomez, Klose, Müller, Kroos, Reus, Götze, Özil, etc. you'll always score a bunch of goals - every coach can do that (maybe even against Italy and Spain). But what does Löw bring to the table?

4-0!
4-4!
Wake up, girl. I wanna go surfing.

I don't know, they have to figure something out defensively. All chances by Sweden were converted and still, all attacks were so transparent you have to question the intelligence of some guys. Is it athletic inability to catch up? Sweden's defense did not look better when we got our early goals.

I don't think when you get so many goals in such a short time you can blame the team entirely, some of that has to fall back on faulty defensive schemes.

Maybe that's why I feel so in-enthusiastic about our team at times. That European Championship was def. the low point, if it was not for Khedira's ability to make that defense look structured we would not have advanced so far.

I hate Boateng as a right back. He is not fast enough. Mertesacker is not fast enough for any position (I think he should be a very situational player at this point, how does he make the team over Boateng and Höwedes (hell, Westermann is better)?). I also liked Bender's quickness when he played.

I also tend to disagree when Löw claims there is nobody else available as left back besides Schmelzer and Lahm. How about Konstantin Rausch? You know, maybe don't go for the most talented but most consistent player. Same logic was probably applied for Schmelzer, but he actually sucks.

Man, what a game. My boss and I were watching yesterday and both of us couldn't help but burst out in laughter at the equalizer. Sure, Zlatan used his elbow to create some space but that kinda evens out the handball by Miro earlier.

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that Germany desperately needs an alpha-wolf again. Whenever they face adversity they look scared. Someone could argue that they are really young, which they are, but they've played internationally for years. Someone should emerge as a leader when **** hits the fan. And I'm not just talking about yesterday's game. I'm thinking of big games at big tournaments. And no, Ballack wasn't that great at being a leader, either. I'm thinking of guys like Sammer, for example.

Nah, it was a "vicious" foul.

Maybe it was a foul, but you'd expect more physical play from a EPL player of all players.

I was more shocked by Neuer's performance to be honest. Rene Adler is closing in faster than anyone could expect.

How has Unnerstall been for Schalke this year? Any chance he could get a callup ahead of Zieler or ter Stegen?

Not much to criticize. But he doesn't have a chance to get called up ahead of Ter Stegen and Zieler. Adler will probably get called up within the next few national games. Unnerstall really doesn't have any chance to make the roster unless two goalies get hurt at once. And even then there's only a small chance.

Not a bad call, I've fortunately got a lot of free time cause my new job doesn't start for a couple weeks, so should be watching the game in real time.

Really liked what I've seen from the false 9 though, and Gundogan will be special whenever scheini hands over the reigns. And if Gotze as the false nine is something Loew actually has the balls to stick with, I would like to see us try a Schweini-Gundogan-Khedira midfield, as I think that would be the perfect way to boss the elites like Spain and Italy in midfield.

Meh, it was against Kazakhstan. Gomez would've probably scored three against them given how deep they stood in their own half.

Can't judge the false nine until we try it against a good opponent..

Johan please do us a favour and just retire. Embarassing behaviour.

And of course Cakir is tricked by this embarassing flop. The same ref that sent off Nani in the United-RM CL tie...in a situation where Nani didn't even see Arbeloa. Arbeloa later admitted that he was aware that Nani didn't see him.
