Usually Kevin and JRo do well in these contests. If I'm just close to either of them, I'll be happy.

Good luck.

I think this will be a pretty tough one to call.

I've had a recent string of good luck with brackets, but I really have no clue this year. I could see elite teams going down easy just by getting an unlucky draw.

I had a lot of chalk last year.

I usually do horribly in these. Perhaps i can reverse that trend this year. I like it that there is no clear favorite, because usually I bust my bracket picking underdogs.

JMU has a play in game...Booo, you would think the CAA would get us a better draw than that, but I guess we'll have to deal with it. If we win and take down the hoosiers...

I've got my first draft of bracket picks in.

But really, I'm conflicted on a number of choices. I'm gonna have to make some changes in the next couple of days.

This year it feels like why should I even try to analyze the brackets? There's no telling what this season. Memphis is the Rodney Dangerfield, no respect team. Gonzaga has a nice record. Indiana has a superstar (Olapido) and a great cast. Wisconsin and Ole Miss broke through in conference tourneys. Louisville and Miami certainly have peaked at the right time. St Louis has Rick Majerus in their hearts and minds and they are going to play inspired ball. Never count out Tom Izzo and Michigan State. Shabazz Muhammed and Anderson lost their IMO best player Jordan Adams, but UCLA might be better. I hate Duke.

Shaka Smart is a really, really good coach at VCU. As a young guy he showed tremendous loyalty staying put and that usually pays off.

http://interviewangel.com/10-inspiring- ... aka-smart/

Here are 10 inspiring facts about VCU Coach Shaka Smart:
1. Raised by a single mother in Wisconsin, Shaka Smart is named after Shaka Zulu, the southern African king who united hundreds of thousands of people.
2. Achieved a near perfect SAT score while in high school in Oregon, WI (outside Madison). Three-year starter for Oregon High School’s basketball team. Owns school records for career assists (458), season (201), and single game (20).
3. Accepted at Ivy Leagues schools Harvard, Yale, and Brown (Smart decided to attend Kenyon College in Ohio – which is the alma mater of actor Paul Newman, former U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes, and former Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist).
4. Started as a freshman point guard at Kenyon College, and ended up as the school’s all-time assists leader with 542.
5. Recognized as the North Coast Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior. Graduated magna cum laude in 1999 with a degree in history.
6. One of 20 students in the country to be named to the USA Today All-USA Academic Team in 1999.
7. Earned a Master’s degree in Social Science from California University of Pennsylvania while serving as assistant basketball coach.
8. Led VCU to 27 wins in the 2009-10 season (Smart’s first year as a head coach). The win total topped all first-year head coaches in the country.
9. Coaches a style of basketball at VCU known as “wreaking havoc” through the heavy use of full court press (VCU led the CAA in steals this year).
10. At age 33, Smart is the second youngest coach in the NCAA Tournament (Josh Pastner at Memphis is younger by 5 months). Coincidentally, the next youngest coach (age 34) in the Tournament is Brad Stevens who has now led Butler to a second consecutive Final Four. VCU and Butler meet up next Saturday in the Final Four. Their combined age (67) is less than the age of legendary Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun (age 68) who has also led his team to the Final Four.

Because I am usually horrible on these picks, (but then again I got everything right in MLB in 2010--every series, so I run hot and cold), I will say as of today I'm thinking Smart vs Smart. VCU and Oklahoma State are both 5 seeds and to me both are teams I could see going to the Final Four.

At this point, I only have one #1 seed going to the final four -- Indiana.

Again, I might change my mind a later today or tomorrow.

Wow, me too, Pine.

I am not going to even change my realgm bracket. Ohio State, Indiana, VCU, OSU with the Hoosiers cutting down the nets.

My motto in the tournament is to always go with the team with the most NBA talent. Tood bad college basketball is so horrific to watch for the most part. I watch mainly to evaluate prospects and to root for the locals.

Indiana has two guys who are going to go in the top 10, Zeller and Olapido.

Kansas has McLemore and Withey and also Releford and Johnson are NBA caliber players.

Oklahoma State has Smart but also Markel Brown and LeBryan Nash who might go 1st round.

Michigan has Burke, Robinson III, and also Hardaway Jr.

UNC has McAdoo, Bullock, and Hairston.

Louisville has Smith, Dieng, Siva, and Behanen. They should be the favorites IMO.

I base mine off how the outcomes will inevitably screw the wizards come draft time. Georgetown going deep, further elevating Porter's stock. UNLV topping Indy depressing Zeller and thus further buoying Porter's stock. Kansas going deep so McLemore has no chance of slipping. Bucknell pulling upsets so that Muscala plays himself into the first round, and UCLA blowing it, giving us Shabazz instead of Otto.

Also, is it just me, or is the South region so much tougher than the other regions? Gonzaga has mostly a cakewalk in the west though I think OSU will be in the final 4.

I'm in. Somehow, I've got all #2's going to the Final Four. Ain't that some ****?

BTW, I'm also in a Fantasy League for the Tourney that a co-worker of mine has run for years. We held our draft on Monday night (9 guys, 18 rounds) and we just track total points for each player.

If any of you guys ever get a chance to join one of these type of pools in the future I highly recommend it (although I wouldn't recommend being the guy responsible for managing the "scorecard" (but I do appreciate the fact that someone is willing to do for our group on a nighly basis)).
