Kelly Olynyk is a top 5 pick

Post#1 » by torontoaces04 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 10:17 pm

Wow. I'm calling it now, he's going to be the White Tim Duncan!

Too much!?!

...but seriously, in a weak draft year, there's no way he falls below 7th. Most drafts have him from 13-20, but that's going to jump for sure. He's essentially been a big-man for 3 years, after having an Anthony Davis type growth spurt, and is a much more polished offensive player. Obviously you cannot discount the fact that Anthony Davis has the potential to go down as one of the best defenders of all-time, and thus is the better prospect.

All that said, where does K.O. end up?

I haven't watched much NCAA this year so I don't know where he ranks, but he looks like a quality 3rd big/borderline starter to me. Am I wrong?

He's a project, but the potential is absolutely there. He is just coming into his own as a big man (he was drafted to Gonzaga as a 6'3 guard).

He is a solid pick and roll/pop big-man. He can mix it up a lot offensively..I really like his play.

Nope. Olynyk is a very polished offensive player and has drawn comparisons to Luis Scola. His defense will be in question at the next level.

Yeah, it's the potential defensive ability which makes me want to put him on the bench. Not a stiff but doesn't look like he's where he needs to be on that end, and not a top-5 pick. Think he'll have to be very smart in order to be starter, but looks like an nba player. Would love to give him a shot behind AJ/JV.

I can bet the house that Kelly Olynyk isn't going top 5. If he does than it has to be one of the weakest drafts ever which i think isn't the case.

I'm not sure about investing a lotto pick in a 22 year old big man

Not a big fan. Can score in the post and hit a jumper, but below average rebounder, and not much of a shot blocker. Defensively liability.

He will likely be in the lottery and a top 10 pick.
His rebounding is overlooked he is getting about 6 in 22 minutes.
His shooting percentage is of the charts and will likely be a PF in the NBA.
Weakness turnovers and at best averge defnse.
Worst case Red Rocket
Best case Bargs 11 games
Canadian in China

he will be a bust, big time. If he goes anywhere in the top 10 people will be calling him a bust asap.....let's all remember the last white guy to come out of gonzaga.

I am glad the Raptors don't have a pick because you could be damn sure BC would scoop him up ASAP

he's not athletic but has a lot of skills, I could see him going 8-15 in this draft if he has a really good tourney.

Why? If he doesn't have surreal expectations put on him as a star/high-potential player I think he can turn out to be a good piece on a team. He has skills that can transfer to the pro's. He's a great pick and roll/pop big that can give you different looks on the offensive end. His T/O's are a problem but that's a problem he can fix along with his defense but most stretch 4's aren't the greatest defenders.

The "last white guy" to come out of Gonzaga was the last player picked in the 2012 draft
