Tay and Daye for Calderon is regrettable

I think Stuck and Jerebko coulda been traded for expirings. At least early in the season. Same result for the cap either way....

I'm drinking and besides, venting is a step to recovery. Tay and Daye can do more than Stuckebko. They have more compatibility with most players and can spread the floor.

And Tay is my fave ever.

i kind of agree, the only thing i liked about the trade was Tay went to a contender so i felt we did right by him and it freed up capspace. i would have thought we could have moved guys like stuckey or JJ for cap room

If we end up with a good SF with our cap space I'll support the Prince trade...I actually agree with Blkbrd and feel great that we sent Prince to a contender for a simple expiring contract...I think Dumars could have traded Stuckey, but I think he still believes in him, even if Stuckey continues to play 6th man...Jerebko, as well as Charlie V will probably be traded this summer...

The trade waived the red flag on the season. Obviously we werent going to win any games with Jose Calderon instead of Tayshaun, I just didn't think that we'd be this terrible

LMAO!

1) Worst case scenario we cleared more cap space and got a short term mentor for Knight

2) We got the Bird Rights to an extremely efficient long term starting/back-up PG that can mentor Knight

3) Due to many things, including this trade we have improved our Draft position

4) We "did the right thing" with Tayshaun, sending him to a better situation so he can play out his last productive seasons on a "winning" team

How is the Calderon trade regrettable? It's win-win for us!

Even if we don't retain Calderon this off-season we got to move Tayshaun to a better situation AND we get more cap space AND we improved our Draft position AND we gave Knight a mentor for a short while.

The trade is not regrettable but the things leading up to the trade are:

1. Dumars giving Tay the contract in the first place

2. Dumars refusing to trade Tay to the Mavs (who ended up going deep in the playoffs) for an expiring contract (Caron Butler) and a first round pick, which would have given us cap space one year earlier and enabled us at least to use the pick to try and get a SF or to move one of our lesser contracts such as CV / Stuckey / or hell maybe even BG.

3. Not being able to dump Jerebko/Stuckey along with Tay when we actually moved him

Thank god Dumars didnt use another pick to move Tay (oh wait he did when he traded Daye a first round pick with Tay)
That's two first round picks Dumars moved this year in order to clear up the idiotic contracts he gave to BG and Tay. What's worse is we gave up a 1st round pick to move BG when we easily could have traded him at the deadline and let him come off the bench with Stuckey. Dumars is a joke and the day he is fired is the day this franchise finally starts its march back to greatness until then we are screwed.

Aye. win-win for sure.

Dumping Stuckey & Jerebko would also have been a nice move, but that doesn't make the Prince trade a bad one. And we could still unload one or both of those guys at some point, not like failure to move then has etched in stone or spot in our rotation.

The trade has not helped on the court.....but at worst, we gained cap space for this offseason. Just hoping we don't retain Calderon and instead, spend wisely.

were there offers for Stuckey and Jerebko?

The idea that they should have been traded has been floated by a few here on Real GM recently but I'm not aware of any actual offers that Dumars could have accepted.

It's easy as fans to say we should trade this player or that player... but it takes 2 to tango

And yes, I agree Joe essentially un-did his own mistakes. But give him credit for doing that and not sticking with Tayshaun, Daye, BG and the pick.

IF Joe screws up the off-season I will once again call for his head... assuming Gores gives him the opportunity to screw up the off-season. Nothing is set in stone :-)

You all get cap space and can tank for desperately needed draft talent. I'd say the Pistons got a good deal. No point having veterans like Tayshaun who won't be around for the rebuild. Get some backcourt help for the future.

Seriously, Tay had a bad contract and was just good enough to make us the 8th worst team every year. Not bad enough to get a top pick, and not good enough to make us a playoff team. There was nothing positive about Tay and his contract being on this team anymore.

And dumping Daye needs no explanation. The guy just wasn't good.

With Tay, Pistons finish 10-14th pick. Without Tay, Pistons finish 5-10th pick. Plus, got out of Tays contract and gave TP another chance at a playoff run. Pure genius.

I agree with most all of the posts.
- Tay/Daye dump was actually great for our team's cap space which we desperately needed
- If there were any offers for Stuckey or Jerebko, we should have dumped them as well (but likely no offers)

I think we all appreciate what Tay did for the Pistons and wish him well, but trading him was good for the Pistons.

This is what it comes down to imo. We are in better position, have a mentor at the very least in Calderon and Tay gets a chance to do make a legitimate run before his career ends.

It improved our draft position. I consider that a huge win. I personally would have loved to keep Tay. I think he is a good wing defender. His leadership was valuable I'm sure. I would have loved for it to be Stuckey/Jerebko for Calderon/Spreights TPE but that wasn't happening. I'm sure stuckey is gone next season which is all i got to hope for.

I believe Daye has upside still and would play well with a suitable roster. *shrug*

Stuck and Jerebko....by the time of the Calderon trade, neither had trade value, but maybe early in the season or before the season they coulda netted expirings with 2nd rounders attached. (B.Udrih and F.Garcia???)
