OT: Yankees injury thread

Post#1 » by YogiStewart » Tue Mar 19, 2013 10:31 pm

honestly, it is remarkable enough that it should be talked about. We're looking at what may be the worst team in the AL East.

Today, Jeter had an MRI on his ankle. has swelling. think it is his surgically repaired ankle acting up, which may be a recurring theme this season.
any team trying to talk Chipper Jones out of retirement is really, really hurting.

So, off the top of my head, we have:

Granderson (6 weeks?)
Teixiera - 8-10 weeks (if he doesn't need surgery)
A-Rod - 4-6 months
Pineda - 60 day DL

is Rivera ready to go?
CC Sabathia's back after surgery. will he be the same?

Granderson is set to miss the first 5 weeks of the season at last estimate. It was 10 weeks from Feb 25th so he should be back around May 6th.

Their injury situation is really crazy. They could be scary bad during April but we should expect them to claw their way back by the end of the season. I think they're still going to win 80-85 games this season so they won't be last.

I'm lazy to search for the link but apparently the Yanks are offering some pretty cheap seats this year, an early sign of things to come this season for their record perhaps?

They're the Yankees. They'll somehow manage 90+ wins.

Didn't GM Cashman fracture something from jumping out of a plane?

And this is before we factor in those that might decline due to age as well.

If Cashman does things correctly, they're in for a 3 year rebuild. By then their top prospects will be major league ready and they can purge most of their big contracts and restock with free-agents. (although ARod will remain the gift that keeps on giving). But as that article I read last week pointed out, they no longer have that Jeter-Posada-Rivera-Pettitte base that there farm system spit out in the mid 90's so maintaining the same type of success will be more difficult going forward.

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 20m
Sources: Yankees in talks with Angels for outfielder Vernon Wells. Lots of money would go back to New York. Deal could be done today.

Well this confirms that the Yanks are desperate and not going into tanking/seller mode.

I'm going to say $35M. No way they give Wells 15M / 3 years.

Yeah, same.

40-25= 15.

15/2= 7.5

Still pretty steep for what Wells will do for you.
