KMart plays honest D. Birdman's after those highlight reel blocks although, I'm sure Spo has reeled him in a bit.

he drafted parsons last year.

beverly is good, but not gm of the year good.

if anything propels morey to get the award, it's gonna be the addition of lin, harden, and asik.

BUT, the moves haven't dont that much, yet. sure, they're playing better and are a playoff team with a bright future...but, they are still a 7 seed / low playoff seed. that's not going to warrant many votes for gm of the year.

Who would you nominate over him though? It shouldn't matter tbh, where the team ends up seeding-wise anyway. They struck gold with Harden, Asik, Beverley.

edit: Removing Parsons. he was last year. So maybe Denver?

i'm not denying he made good moves. he really did. but i don't see a low playoff seed getting it. it would be a different story if the team were one of the worst teams in the nba last year...but that's not the case. they barely missed the playoffs last year, iirc.

one can make a case for the knicks, nets, or denver.

morey can win it. i just think it's kind of a long shot.

LOL. Paco, I see your point but I'm asking you, personally. There's no way the NY and NJ moves should be considered GM-of-the-year-worthy. Trading for Joe Johnson's contract AND trading away Lillard for Gerald's corpse should get you fired.

i guess you have a point -- no clear cut winner. morey may end up getting it.

the way i see it with ny and nj -- they went from a low seed to a high seed (knicks) and the nets went from arguably the worst team in basketball to a top 4 team in the east (which, is not saying all that much, i guess).

i'm really like what morey has done the last two years. before that, i thought he was greatly overrated...not anymore.

*i completely agree with the jj trade and the wallace trade were both stupid -- i hated them both at the time*

ends justify the means slightly in this case?

Valid point. That had to put a product on the court in their inaugural year.

EOY award can't only be about how the team is performing this year but more about how well the moves made by the executive in that calendar year are evaluated, both for the present and the future.

Concurred. It's Morey.
But if he blows his max cap room on Joshn, ohhh I might take it back.

The Robinson trade doesn't look like as big a robbery as it did at first.

Robinson has looked like a scrub for the most part, with his only big game coming in an early blowout with extended garbage minutes. He's turnover prone, always getting the ball stripped or just losing it outright. He has no jumper, and looks generally confused.

On the other side, Patterson has had some nice games for the Kings. Many Rockets fans felt it was unnecessary to trade away a productive PF who fit the offense well (good team defender, good midrange and 3pt jumpshooter), for a project who may or may not pan out, who doesn't fit well with Asik.

Sign and trade Dwight for Asik and some picks.

The award is voted on by the executives around the NBA. I doubt NBA GMs only takes a look at the team's previous conference rankings (which is pretty meaningless when the east is garbage) and not look at the nominee's actual moves.

that makes sense, too. but...why hasn't presti ever won it? he had westbrook, ibaka, harden, and kd on the same team two years ago (and last year, but that's not important for my argument). this was before everyone thought they'd blow up / be good as quickly as they did / became. he had that team set for the present and future. just some food for thought.

even with the way he's played, i still like the trade. he's a relentless worker with a real fire burning inside him (providing for his sister / family). he hasn't been that good this year because he's still raw and his strengths are not the ones that are required out of houston's bigs. houston's offense is pick and roll with asik with 4 shooters spotting on (or cutting), a harden drive/iso, or a lin drive/iso. robinson doesn't have the ability to stretch the floor like motie (who im also a big fan of). give him a year and he'll be playing much better. need to keep in mind, he was traded for mid-year.

they traded for robinson because of his motor, rebounding ability, and potential. the only thing that houston really needs from him to improve upon is his defense (but everyone can look to improve that...especially rockets' players) and his shooting.

i'm not really sure how to judge Morey...
Hes made alot of trades, robbing teams blind (including us...)
has brought in ALOT of talented players
And he's truly done a great job..

However, you still see that team only fighting for a low playoff seed in the West
And I understand that with his young players, and new players you have to give him "time"
But he's been there since '07, at what point is he suppose to turn that team into a legit contender?

Eghh, maybe im hating..but with the amount of moves hes made, and the time hes had...i;d expect better tbh

They could have had both.
