will Ante Tomic ever see the NBA?

Post#1 » by IMHO » Sat Mar 16, 2013 11:07 pm

7'2 260lb athletic center, huge contracts for those in US grow on trees, why isn't someone pushing to acquiring his rights from Jazz and bringing him over here, at least as a prospect?

or is he too old at this point?

It's a no brainer, he should be in the NBA. He would automatically get a contract of 5-7 mill a year, probably more. He is only 26.

Millsap and Jefferson are probably gone this summer. What do you think is going to happen?

I don't know much about him, what's his game like? The size definitely intrigues me.

Pau Gasol like, complete ofensive game, but has less strenght then Gasol.

Here is scouting from ACB site of his GO to moves on ofense

Not exactly accurate. Tomic is taller and has a longer wingspan than gasol.

I remember reading an interview with him back when he was still a young phenom projected to be a top 10 pick in the draft. He said he hated dunking. At that point, I knew he wasn't going to the NBA. European style of play, European mentality - so I guess I understand why he likes it here. I never got the feeling that he really wanted to play in the NBA. While it's true that I doubt he would've gotten big minutes if he had come into the league when he was much younger, the guy would now definitely get at least the same amount of minutes he's getting in Barcelona this season.

"I would be very surprised if (Ante Tomic) ended up playing in the NBA. And judging by what his agent told me, so would he. He could probably play in the NBA and be a decent backup, because he can really score, but he's not very tough and will struggle with everything that has to do with defense and rebounding. I think he's probably better suited physically and mentally for Europe and he'll be paid more over there anyway." - don't know who said that because the link is dead.

I don't agree with him not being able to deal with stronger big men seeing how there aren't that many left and he'd definitely get more money playing in the NBA.

His offense is nba-ready, but not his toughness, strength, defense, rebounding and mentality.

Not a good defender, but good rebounder. I dont know what you are talking about. Not strong, but he is finesse, skilled offensive player, he doesn't have to be Pekovic or smth.

Maybe a one way player, but a good one way player. Length, rebounding, offense. Unlike some other good Euroleague bigman, he actually looks like a good NBA fit. Its not like dragging about Lorbek or Krhyapa. I would personally love Tomic on Thunder, they already have tough bigman defenders, they could definitely use inside scorer off the bench.

Thats it.
He has vastly improved from his last years in Real Madrid, but he still has "no blood" nor strength.

A disappointment? He was one of the better centers in that tournament. Have you seen how some actual NBA centers performed? Tomic was far better than Vucevic, better than Gortat and Valanciunas also.

If anything, that tournament made his case stronger. We had 5 NBA starting centers in Eurobasket, and only one of them performed better than Tomic.

Very tall, seems very strong, but I guess at 26 a bit too old to start playing at NBA level. He was playing impressively at FC Barcelona in the Euroleague Finals. He plays different style than other NBA players I, less powerfull more skills IMHO.

Pekovic, Marc Gasol, Splitter. Best european centers, are the best NBA centers. Tomic is not so good but he would be a starter.
