I think his height helps him on this. He is able to throw that pass over his own defender without as much arc. The ball gets to the corner shooter faster, avoiding the turnover and giving him time to get the shot off.

Height helped Magic sling passes as well.
Wall is not as tall but he jumps and slings it which is also effective.

As for those worried about Walls ejection derailing him, I wouldn't worry about that one bit. Actually, I think it was a good thing.

Wall forced the issue. It was a bad call. Wall does not get the star treatment with calls yet and if you are going to be elite in this league, you need to get the call when you are fouled. To many times Wall has been fouled and he doesn't get the call. He has sucked it up long enough.

Now that he is emerging and getting more attention because he is shooting a lot better, he can command more respect from the refs. Had he just let that one go, it would be forgotten about in 2 mins. But he pushed the issue and got ejected. That will get a lot more peoples attention. That play will get reviewed a lot more then it would have all the way to the top level of the refs. Thats one reason.

I wouldn't even be surprised if Randy and him had talked about this before hand. I could imagine a conversation where Wall is talking to him about not getting calls and Randy just saying.... that don't let it happen... Get Td up if you have to if they are missing lots of calls. Stake your ground. You have earned it.

All that said, I hope what Wall said doesn't get him in trouble. He may have lost his cool a little to much.

Secondly, he was staking his ground on the court to other players. Again, because he was ejected, a lot more NBA players will see that clip and see that Wall isn't going to let a player like Klay punk him. You gotta step up like that if you want respect.

I'm not saying Wall needs to become some chest thumping bully prick, but you have to flex your chest sometimes, even if you are a nice guy. Hell, I have even seen Nash get nasty in some situations.

So I think the ejection was a good thing. Now we have to see if it helps any. If not, get Td up again. The key is only do it when they keep making legitimately bad calls. Other times, just talk nicely to the refs. Gotta work both angles.

In his past seven games, Wall is averaging 23.4 points, 10.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals. He is also shooting 55.5 percent from the field.

But its a small sample size.

I caught some of the game against the Lakers, amazing game by Wall. Only the 2nd best game ever by a Wizard in LA. ;)
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

John WOW

Just beat Mem at home without Nene, Trevor A, Webster or Price..

Wall cranked up 47 pts, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, 1 block without any of them on the court.

2-4 from 3 land.

2 Turnovers in 43 minutes

And the icing DAGGER 3

People will look at the FTs and say, "Wow, what has Wall done to deserve star calls?".

The reality, which is even better than Wall getting phantom foul calls (IMO), is that all he needs to do now if his jump shot continues to be solid (doesn't even need to be en fuego like it has been recently) is a quick head fake and he's beaten his defender. Hell, he's probably also gotten by the help defender, or at the very least drawn the foul.

The game John had today is more repeatable than any game Gil had as a Wizard. That's an exciting prospect.

Amazing, Wall is improving at such a rapid rate now. Glad to see his game skipping 3 levels and knocking on the door of elite status

edited due to poor addition skills.... lol

His TS, eFG, ORtg and PER should all get a nice bump from that game. He is climbing the charts.

PER should break 20 maybe. There are only 4 other PG that high.

CP, Parker, Westbrook and Curry.

And as Randy said post game, it was all in the flow of the game. He still passed it around plenty. Nothing he did seemed rushed and maybe 1 play looked forced. Thats it. Like 1 play.

And the ultimate confident move was not taking that last shot as a 3 ball to go for 50. It said two things. One was, we won the game and that was what this is all about. Its not about me. Its about my team winning.

Secondly it says, don't worry. I'll be back. I'll get that 50 another day. Its nice to have things to look forward to so I'm going to leave a little on the table.

Did Gil Arena die and get reincarnated as John Wall or something?

Wall has definitely taken a couple of Gilbert's moves on his way to the basket. That hesitation and drive to get the call was very Arenas-esque and John did it numerous times tonight.

I hope he keeps it up and expands his game this summer. I hope this isn't all just for that extension.
