Did a little more research....apparently it's more complicated than I thought and the offset amount is not straight dollar for dollar, as outlined in this article about Andray Blatche's situation:
http://www.netsdaily.com/2013/3/14/4103 ... oklyn-nets
So Chris would actually make more money by signing for higher than the minimum, but not the full amount.
So say another team offers the mini-mle of around 3 million, and next year's 1 year vet min used in the formula is 750k -- the new offer would effectively be worth 1.875 million to him (with Denver getting $1.125m in relief.) Our 1.75 vet min (120% of his vet min this year) would amount to 1.25 million (with Denver getting a relief of $500k), so he'd make around $650k-$700k more next year by signing for the mini-mle.
And you're right, if a team wants to sign him multiyear for the mini-mle, not much we can do. For Chris, it'd basically be a 2 year 6.5 mill deal for 2014-15 and 2015-16. The hope is, if he's enjoying winning EVERY SINGLE GAME HE PLAYS, he'd just play out the Denver contract with us at the minimum and figure out his next contract in 2014-15. Not sure, but we may have his Early Bird (ha) Rights then and be able to offer more at that point to thank him.
And if anything, one would hope Camby's production this year would be a warning to other teams not to give multiyear deals to aging centers. I could see teams trying to troll the Heat though. Would be funny if Cleveland offered him huge one year deal with their leftover capspace, hoping it'd hurt our title chances in 2013-14.
Will you use mini-MLE on Birdman?

There is nowhere he could go where he would have both a more important role, and a better city to play in for his lifestyle. I feel like it's a weird match made in heaven.
Turiaf was different--because he wasn't THAT great of a fit that Riley would have been willing to give up anything to keep him. I think Birdman is different. Plus you'd think it might mean something that we were the one team to really take a shot on him and rehab him back into shape.
But if he leaves, I would imagine we'll roll the dice on Oden. I mean we may do that anyways if we get Birdman for the MLE.
It's clear having a center who can catch the ball and dunk it, and play defense really takes this team over the top.
I'm more wondering what we're going to do with Rashard Lewis, Mike Miller, and James Jones going forward.

Dimitris Diamantidis... that's who you offer it to.
I'd also pair Mario Chalmers, the rights to Hamilton, cash, and a future 2nd for a S&T with Ante Tomic. It helps the Jazz get to the 90% cap threshold with Chalmers on a 1 year deal and compensates them for Tomic who they'd buyout from Barcelona.
