OT: If we're building around Kemba then he's got a lot to live up to. The Pistons with Isaiah Thomas are the only PG led team I can think of to win a championship. Usually championship teams are built around wings or big men.

As far as Hendo not being the right fit, I think Kemba is not the best fit. I would like to see us with a pass first PG and see how the team plays.

If he stays injury free and improves from where he is now he'll be worth 10 million 3 years from now.

So you think Hendo is a better, more valuable building piece than Kemba?

Not a bad point. But why overpay a player who shouldn't be better than the third option on a team? I see a point in overpaying a franchise player or at least a sidekick of his but not someone who, let's face it, is easily replaceable. I don't think we'll get far by paying Hendo that kind of money and if we ever do develop into a playoff team with the core of Kemba/MKG/Biz, we simply can get a FA swingman during the summer. There are plenty of guards who can attack the basket and make threes (a thing Hendo doesn't do well and which is vital in today's game). Guards who are also taller, Hendo might be a great one-on-one defender (especially when he's pissed), but he's not a great team defender and us playing all this small ball definitely doesn't help our defense which is poor as it is.

Why do you say you? I, for one, don't even know the style of play into which our team will develop with time. I'm not high on score-first point guards but it's not a good enough reason to part ways with Kemba who is our best asset.

The 1978-79 SuperSonics lead by Gus Williams is probably the only other example. You can make an argument for the '04 Pistons and Chauncey Billups.
Is it a coincidence that these are the only two teams ever who won a championship without a legit superstar? Moreover, Isiah was damn good but in a way those Bad Boys Pistons teams were also very balanced and relied on team play more than a single superstar (in this case Isiah).

You have a point there but then again that's a road I'll be glad to cross when we actually get to the level of contending. At this point a championship for our franchise is a pipe dream. Kemba is our best asset, period. I think we have to keep him around.

I think Hendo would have loved playing in the 80s. His willingness to enter altercations and shoot 16-footers would have really fit in.

The team isn't built around Kemba because they're building around Kemba.

They're building around the best, most dynamic player on the team. It just so happens to be Kemba. If we acquire a star player at the wing or post, they'll be the main piece

Too bad this draft lacks a lights out 3pt threat with size. Hey, wait a minute...

very good point. If we indeed do draft Noel, we would have some serious spacing issues. I don't know if MKG, Biz and him should even play on the court at the same time.

I seriously doubt that we're intentionally building around Kemba. If we could've and could draft a surefire better franchise player ahead of him with the Biyombo pick in 2011, the year after with MKG, and this upcoming draft then we would. It's not like we are expecting Kemba to lead us to a title run by himself. We're hoping we can draft a player that would relieve the pressure from him of being the go-to scorer. That's the whole intention of tanking aka developing until the 2014 draft. What do you want, Kemba to play bad so we could be discussing drafting another PG around a roster that's far depleted beyond his position?

Exactly. I missed this post while scrolling down. It would've saved me some time.

I think everyone has a point in these discussions funnily enough ranging from 5m a season to (outlandishly but understandable) 10m.

Gerald Henderson has never been the most polarizing player on the Bobcats simply because of his company, when Bernie Bickerstaff started in his "quest" to build a team he sold the NBA and Charlotte community on character guys such as Gerald Wallace, Emeka Okafor, Brevin Knight and Raymond Felton etc, which quickly descended into a series of McInnis, Jax, Diaw, Chandler and the questionable effort of guys like Emeka and Felton.

Obviously management has changed and the coaches and personnel but the culture remained, Gerald Henderson right now is the only link remaining to our Bobcats past and future winning culture (eventually) and similarly with Emeka and Felton after a certain point after so much investment from the franchise and the backing of basically everyone how come the effort remains inconsistent?

Sure Hendo is playing for money but he should have been the whole season? If you can do it now you could have done it 4 months ago and don't you want to be the best player you can be? You're our captain and you take stretches of the season off...wtf?

I wonder if we give Hendo the big $ he becomes 12ppg Hendo again and it is pretty freaking obvious he will...

I say this as a huge Hendo fan.

Sit on the fence with him and offer him the QO, 5/30 or 2/14.

5/30. Lock this guy up. Even when he's not at his best, he's still good for 12-14 points and good D. That's worth something and if he's actually giving it his all, all the time, then $6M a year is definitely worth it.

I think it's worth it too and if you tell him there will be no negotiations and to take his pick then that is fair.

He'll take the smart option 5/30.

I would personally offer more than that, but then you start getting to a Tyrus-level contract, which I'd ideally want to avoid, although there's no question Henderson is far better and far more consistent than Tyrus ever was.

Regardless, if a team offered him a contract that big, I'd match with minimal hesitation.

not that interested in Hendo for more than 5 mil. its not like he's broken out in the past month or discovered new aspects to his game. he's literally just trying harder than he has been the last 2 years. he could have been doing this for a while now but we only see it at the end of the season with free agency upcoming.

hopefully teams will see Hendo as kinda like Augustin, stats just from being on a horrible team and we can lock him up cheap

Huh?

I have been one of the more vocal anti-Felton guys over the years but how in the hell can you ever bring into question that kids effort?

He was amazing in that sense.

I dont think he's trying harder. I dont have a clue what the guy is thinking, but of course he wants to get paid. But he's not a thug, he seems to love basketball, and he plays hard most if not all the time.

He has gotten better every season, but finally his shot is falling. He like Kemba can shoot you out of games and now that his shot is going in, the team is much more competitive. The game is opening up more. His team defense sucks at times and he plays a little too confident on that end of the floor.

So he's not a franchise player but he is a valuable role player. Dude deserves to get paid. He's playing better than Kevin Martin right now who is getting a lot of hype. Hopefully we can keep him on the cheap.

Been saying it for a long time now. Give him the same sort of 1st contract we gave Wallace.

Let him earn that and then he will get seriously paid.
