strange email this AM...

Teambuy.ca is a groupon-esque website. today's email was strange. it was selling tickets to the sold-out Jays' home opener.
so i read it...
and they're basically promoting a scalping agency.

there must be a way to report this crap to the Jays. $70 for a 500 level seat??

How can they get away saying 88 dollar value? Or 255 value for 100 level? The face value on that 70 dollar tickets is like 12 bucks right?

I get that the actual seller sets the price - so the scalper here - but they don't have set prices. If they were selling a massage or dinner or whatever and the regular price was 50 bucks, but they've jacked it to 200 for the internet coupon site's sale and then discounted 20% to 160, that wouldn't be okay would it? If they sold all their upper deck tickets at 88 dollars, they wouldn't sell any at all. I'm sure they'll be fine, 'cause no one's gonna argue who matters and the law is likely totally murky at best, but this is sleaze.

The wave of re-selling tickets pisses me off. I love that things like stubhub should help actual season ticket holders re-sell with no hassle. I don't even mind the dude who's got a dozen or so tickets hustling his ass off in front of the dome trying to eke out a living off spur of the moment people. But the teams and leagues should do something to try and curtail the companies doing this as a business model and protect their customers. But outside of a few cities they'll take the up front guaranteed sale and pay lip service to the rest.

Baseball's the only semi-affordable pro sport left, I'm almost afraid to see what'll happen if the Jays get super popular again in this town.
