Re: Antoine Winfield released
Would Winfield make a sweet SS, or do they only convert cornerbacks to FS?

Re: Antoine Winfield released
What does Harrison Smith play? Do we even differentiate in the cover-2?

Re: Antoine Winfield released
in cover 2 they probably do the same thing, though Harrison plays robber a lot too in alternate coverages, but I think Winfield could probably do that too? I don't really know the nuances of defenses, but CBs always seem to be FS rather than SS, don't know if it's b/c SS are up in the box more or that FS is typically shaded to the side of the superior receiver or what.

Re: Antoine Winfield released
The ball is back in Antoine Winfield’s court now. The Vikings have made it clear to the veteran cornerback that they’d love to have him back for 2013, even after releasing him in the hour before free agency began last week.
from the Startribune. Sounds like they want to bring him back if possible; also would seem to indicate they don't consider themselves done in free agency. Maybe if Winfield doesn't want to come back...Gamble or Jammer might fit the bill?

Re: Antoine Winfield released
i'd really like him back as well
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_ ... ble-return
sounds like he understands the situation and would be comfortable with his new role on the team it seems, hopefully they can come together on this

Re: Antoine Winfield released
Winfield's role was somewhat limited last year, but he was still really good. You could tell the difference in the defense when he was out. I'd love to have to have him back.

Re: Antoine Winfield released
I wish him the best of luck. It's too bad he chose their offer over ours, but after releasing him along with the chance to make a deep run in the playoffs with the hawks, I don't blame him.
