Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part II
Consiglieri, my ideal drasft with our current picks would be a Porter, Muscala, Brown draft!
I still am hoping we can consolidate our 2nd rounders, perhaps with Vesely for another 1st rounder. I doubt Ernie wants to add 3 rookies. Also thinking guys like Muscala and Mcdermott are probably going to rise to 1st round.

Re: Official 2013 Draft Thread - Part II
I have my doubts about Sherwood Brown being a NBA player. He's getting a lot of hype here and elsewhere, mostly because of his personality, but I haven't been all that impressed with his play.
Now that little PG Comer...he's got the kind of handle, smarts and passing ability that might land him a spot on some NBA team's bench...providing he learns to knock down the open jumper.

Comer & Satoransky could be similar talents.

I guess the best comp to Smart is Stuckey, but I see him as a better version of Stuckey - with unusual leadership ability. I think he'd be perfect for Utah - a team desperate for a point guard - as well as a charismatic leader like Deron Williams seemed to be.
It's kind of meaningless to make this comparison but I see him as something of a slow Dwyane Wade. I say meaningless because Wade's speed is a huge part of what defines him and makes him so good. But I think he shares a lot of other physical attributes with him. Great body control, great hands, tremendous strength for a guard, etc. Similar aggressiveness and assertiveness.

Wizards draft prediction:
1st round select Alex Len.
1st 2nd rounder: sold for cash.
2nd 2nd rounder: select obscure euro draft-n-stash.
It's better to mentally prepare ourselves for this.
Also this will probably be followed by boggling of Webster re-signing.

Yes, it is better to prepare mentally. I'm thinking Len might be off the board one pick earlier and the Wizards will pick Mason Plumlee.
They'll pass on McCollum for sure. No way will EG draft McDermott. You're probably right he would sell the second rounder for cash even with McDermott and Wolters still on the board.

Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Could be. But I've never actually seen Satoransky play other than highlights. Have you seen him play?

I'd be alright if we drafted Len. I think it's probably the most likely pick.
He's got potential. He's 7-1, he can move, and he can shoot. He's got more potential than most of the class.

Absolutely the most likely pick. Ernie can get his Euro fix while playing it off as drafting a highly regarded local prospect. Win-win for EG.

I like Carter-Williams. He has the physical tools and size to be a very, very good NBA PG. It's the mental part of the game where he currently comes up short. But he's young and in his first season getting big minutes so I can see him growing considerably in that area.
Carter-Williams is a natural at the PG position and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he turns out to be as good--or better--than Smart and Burke.

If Webster gets extended and Ariza picks up his option, where does Otto Porter play and what kind of minutes is he going to get?
That's one of the things that worries me a little about Porter.

Well, Ariza is only here for 1 more year. Webster can play SG too. I think Porter can play SF/PF.

Which is why I'm focused on Len/Zeller.
Talented players who'll fill a need.
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Maybe I'm still in the minority, but I've long thought Ariza has one foot out the door already. Too many times I've seen him go through the motions this year, especially immediately after the trade rumors about him for Butler came out. I think he's willing to sacrifice a few million to choose his own destination and play for a winner.
Also there's no guarantee that Webster stays. And to be honest, we shouldn't overvalue his contributions to the point where we think he's completely irreplaceable.

In the case of extensions, Porter can play SF in 2015-2020.

Ariza is hard to read. He's very placid and deadpan. What could be perceived as indifference might just be an even keel.
Bottom line though is 7.5 million is likely a good deal more than he could make on the open market. I think the most he could probably get from a team is the full MLE. And I don't really think he'd even get that. It'd be hard to walk away from the money he'd make from picking up his option.
I agree that we shouldn't overvalue Webster's contributions and break the bank for him. Don't think we'll have to though. I'd be willing to pay the full MLE for him personally. We've had such a poor run at the SF position the past few years, we've got a 26 year old starter who works well and who should be affordable.

Trevor A isn't going anyway and neither is Webster.
And if Potter is the player you want, you still pick him.
Trevor A would be so easy to trade if they wanted to when the time comes.

I agree with you Dat. I think he's going to opt out.
Even if he doesn't and we have an opportunity to draft Porter - you do it. Both Martell and Ariza can play SG. Imagine the length on the perimeter they could run out in the second unit: Temple/Ariza/Porter.

DX has a new prospect—Giannis Antetokoumpo—a 6'10 point forward with a 7'3 wingspan. Only 18 years old. According to Dime Magazine, "Oklahoma City’s Sam Presti and Houston’s Daryl Morey, among others, also have been to Athens to scout Antetokoumpo, whose contract with Zaragoza is said to contain an affordable buyout clause."
I know Ernie wouldn't dare pull the trigger, but the upside here is tremendous. This kid is Vesely with actual basketball skills.
