some of you are forgetting how good Jameer used to be; he's old, hurt and slow now but in his prime his excellence on offense far outweighed his mediocre defense.

Jameer really isn't as bad as you all are making him out to be. He's just tanking. He has a lot of desirable skills. Not every team can have an all-nba point guard, there are only a few all-stars to go around the 30 teams. He's exactly what we drafted him to be, a middle of the pack starting NBA point guard. He's not old, he's not slow, he's normal. He's just chucking 3s occasionally. He could still play another 6 years, there are other PGs well into their late 30s that still play. Who knows what age will bring Jameer, he might change his game a bit and be useful somewhere.

Did I say CP3 was a bad defender? His team d sucks and his on-ball d is medicore but he is no "tenacious " defender. Just because you gamble for steals does not make you a great defender, Rondo is another example.

If Noel is there when we pick, I think we take him. By the time the draft comes around he will have been rehabbing for a while and good news will abound of a healthy Nerlens Noel. The notion of a healthy Noel next to Vuc keeps me up at night. If the Magic see Vuc as a guy who can improve on defense then maybe you pass and move down but I think Noel will be the first man taken.

not sold on Noel. Being a good shotblocker doesnt mean you are good on D. Ibaka is a good shot blocker, his true defense is less than stellar. Whoever Noel plays on D, they just pull him away from the basket and negate him.

Any one of these PG's (Burke/McCollum/Smart/Carter-Williams) could end up as the best PG coming out of the draft and i would not be the least surprised. They are all totally different in style, but all very similar in overall talent level.
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

I'm not sold on any player, but I think Noel would be a good gamble.

Noel is a great weakside defender, and with full athleticism and his length, he's able to cover a surprising amount of the paint even if a forward is able to draw him out.
with someone like Noel, you could go back to running a box and 1 scheme, and allow him to patrol the paint the way Dwight used to. Noel's ability to protect the paint shouldn't be undermined. his numbers for opp FG% in the paint really show what kind of a level he's on in terms of anchoring a defense and altering shots just with his presence. Dwight, Sanders and Hibbert are the 3 best in the league in those terms, and i wouldn't be surprised if a healthy Noel joined them rather quickly.

It's a big jump in talent going from ncaa to pro. He needs to hit the weight room heavy because even in college he was getting bodied even manhandled at some points. In the nba everyone is bigger and stronger and I'm not quite sure his body will be able to hold up
Tough call but he has some injury history that caused him to lose significant time in his young career. He has no offensive game to speak of and I've heard that he's been trying to put weight on but it's coming slow if at all.
Honestly though someone please tell me what's the difference between Noel and Hassan whiteside coming out of college in terms of skill set?
While I am intrigued with Noel I think he has the highest bust potential

It's rare to find a guy like Nelson these days in sports, but he has been loyal & true to his teammates throughout his career. 10 years later & he hasn't changed one bit with the fame & money of the NBA. I def applaud him for that, especially the way he has dealt with the you know who drama the past couple years.

Most guys would be loyal if you're willing to pay them more than other teams.

Dwight didn't leave via free agency, we traded him. If we kept him, who knows.. not saying he would resign but we'd never know what he would do.
Also the superstars are different. They already have so much money a few millions mean less when they want to win championships. Guys like Jameer and JJ may seem "loyal" but I'd be surprised if they reject better offers to stay. Guess I'm cynical but I don't believe in this loyalty bs. Very few players are truly loyal.

Well loyalty is a two way street, chances are if you had a player that would stay no matter how much you offer the team would take advantage of the player and offer an offer much lower than the player deserves, also they would trade him for a better player given the chance

My personal belief based on nothing(I'm drunk) is that players would want to resign with a franchise which is loyal to them. I understand Dwight's *im so popular and can do better elsewhere lol lakers struggling 8th seed*
But if your loved by a city, can't you eat and dine rather well? Create a reputation in that city and a home? That seems appealing to me. We just need to create a competitive atmosphere. That of. Orlando wants to WIN!!!
Tim Duncan don't stay in sA becuse it's the
Most desirable city. Miami as well* with a lay cut*
We want our city to win and we respect our players more over the season than an l.a. Or chigago. Or new York. You can be a legend in our city if you win a title.
I'm not saying everyone is going to comp your meal, but
You'll be a a legend. If your not good enough to prove
Your worth, doesn't anybody see you'll just be an afterthought in a legendary franchise?
Orlando craves a star...and we will treat you as a god if you stay with us.
Why is that not enougH? Btw, f Dwight, I don't want him back. Can't Tobias, drew, hark and Vuc see our town as Their legacy?

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt.LII "Lottery/Draft" Edit
So far I've been really impressed with Henny. He's gone out and gotten some young assets and the future looks promising.
Moe Harkless, Nikola Vucevic, Tobias Harris, Andrew Nicholson...even Kyle Oquinn our 2nd rounder is turning into a draft steal. With more draft picks on the horizon and our new emphasis on player development it should only get better.
I'm just hoping though that we don't fudge it up and wait too long with some of our assets. We're likely going to have to move a couple of those guys at some point. If you look at the Wizards, Grunfield accumulated alot of young talent. Instead of moving the pieces that didn't fit, he hung on to them too long, lost value in the guys, through ridiculous contracts at Andray Blatche and they've been stuck in mediocrity. If he would have moved someone like a Jordan Crawford or Nick Young sooner. The core with John Wall and Bradley Beal might have a better team around it now ala the Pacers. But he also made some bone headed trades as well that set them back.
Next look at Minnesota. If not for injury to KLove they probably would be in the playoffs this year. The team whiffed on Johnny Flynn, Wesley Johnson and even Corey Brewer. But they moved those guys before it was too late and got something for them. They were even looking to move Derrick Williams for the right deal. Khan is probably the worst evaluator of talent and if I were him I'd hire someone to draft my players for me, but I admire his ability to cut losses when it doesn't fit in with the team.
We as fans have to respect the front office decision over the next few years. If a guy isn't working out they should be moved while their value is still high. I'm guessing we're going to be saying good bye to either Harkless or Tobes and either Nicholson or O'Quinn. Enjoy the player development, but don't get too hung up on one player. The key is to find the best pieces to build a championship team. Some guys are not going to be in our long term plans. We may have to let someone go in Free Agency because we have to preserve flexibility. I'm sure Henny has a plan. Don't hate him if he has to let one of them go and they blow up on another team....that player wasn't working on our team.
