well he's said in interviews that next season is his last :dontknow:

if the lakers win a championship in one of the next two years he might do a lot of thinking on how he feels about the teams chances at winning it all, for #7 for him

He's going to play until he gets another championship and passes MJ on the scoring list.

i think the opposite if he wins a ring this year or next hes calling in quits or sure. but if he doesnt i can see him playing an extra year or so.

He's going to play until the wheels fall off or the jumpers stop falling.

Seriously though he really loves basketball and will probably keep playing as long as he enjoys it and as long as a team will pay him to play.

He's been saying for the last couple years that next season will likely be his last. I take his word for it.

^That's so true.^

Anyhow, he just passed Wilt. I think he's gunning for #2 all time scoring myself. I do think he'll play in Italy sometime in his 40s for a few years. He always says he's going to retire soon, but I never really believe him myself.

I bet its going to be more mental than physical exhaustion for Kobe. All those crazy workouts, being away from family and non-stop focus will eventually eat you out and he's spent more than half his life in the league already.

Even MJ took a couple of years off to play baseball. Kobe hasn't even done that. As selfish as I'm to want him to play on forever, I wouldn't be surprised to see him hang up after next season and may be have a couple of good years in Europe or Spain.

Best case scenario, we keep Kobe & Pau next season, win a ring and Kobe hands it over to Dwight, flies off to play a couple of seasons at Barcelona with Pau Gasol.

I don't think he'll hang it up after 2014, especially at the high level he's been capable of playing.

I think he'd ride the wave.. See what pieces the Lakers acquire for 2014 onwards.. and if it's a young playoff/championship caliber team, he may sign on for one more season as his end all be all.

In the situation where the roster isn't quite there and Kobe doesn't think the Lakers are capable of being a legit threat after the 2014 offseason (where nearly every contract comes off the books and they got money to blow..) He'll hang them up and be content with passing Jordan at least in a few categories (All-Star appearances, All-Time Points)

I'll be glad to to see Kobe gone and his $30 million off the books. What a wasted opportunity this season has been. Instead of using the talent around him to go after a championship, Kobe has misused the team to pursue his own selfish goals. Kobe lost a close scoring race to Durant last year. Went down to the final game of the season and he never got over it. Kobe loves Kobe, and he loves individual pursuits, despite all his talk about rings.

Other than the fact that Kobe sat down the last game of the season to give up the scoring title, that post is all round genius.

Wow. If this ever happened I can die in perfect peace as a laker fan.

It brings a tear to my eye even thinking about that scenario. I would follow Spanish basketball like I wouldn't even believe.
