Which is why a smart GM like Olshey would offer to get it out of the way in a weak draft?

What if we get the #13 next year to go along with our #1 ;)

I'd like a way to get Meyers Leonard off of them, I think that kid is gonna be good eventually.

:gossip: :eyebrows: I actually think Portland would like to lose that 12th pick in this years draft.
 And Charlotte is trying to figure out a plan B should they be unable to sign Hendo?
:o :-? I am not sure what our options are under the collective bargaining agreement , but is it possible on draft night to trade the rights for Hendo (or do a sign and trade) for a Portland player a young 2 guard like Will Barton and the released 12th 1st round 2013 Portland pick? That way we pickup Plumlee or Olynyk to develop as a starting center and we get something for Hendo

@BobsBuddy

I'm pretty sure you're right and they won't want to keep the pick but their options are severely limited.

Worst case we have to part with cash and rescind our rights to their pick for it.

Chances are they'll offer it to us.

Aldridge didn't play today and didn't travel to GSW because of a sprained ankle.

Side note, that's the nail in the coffin for my fantasy team

Well hopefully we get it next year.

This'll be the 17th-20th pick next year. They'll probably put together some kind of bench with their pick and a little cap space. The only thing keeping them from the playoffs was any semblance of a bench. Anytime Luke Babbitt and Victor Claver are getting consistent minutes and THE BOBCATS can call out how weak your bench is, your bench is your achilles heel.

Rather get that pick than the 13th this year.

I honestly think PDX has next to no chance of being higher than the 7th seed next year.

Lillard will be better but by how much? Aldridges health? Hickson's impending free agency and still no bench...watch this space.

It will probably be the 14th pick which I would rather have than the 13th this upcoming draft but I would rather have the 13th on draft day this season than the 17th-20th next season.

No draft is really weak imo, the talent is always there it is just some drafts have more talent than others, most of what "busts" a prospect is circumstance either personal or professional or simply what is going on between the ears.

I honestly think had players gone to the right teams in the 2000 draft it would have been fine, Stromile Swift and Darius Miles are two of the mythical "what might have beens" ever.

Imagine if TD went to 1997 Denver or Kobe being drafted by the 1996 New Jersey Nets as they wanted to?

Point being if a guy is available at 13 that will help us then this will help us, it may not help Portland that much being in the "rebuilt" mentality, next years draft is another bridge to cross when it comes.

Kelly Olynyk will probably been gone by 13 but that guy may never get exponentially better but he will contribute as soon as he knows our system and offensive and defensive schemes.

I would rather that guy at 13 as opposed to some underwhelming frosh next year (available at 17-20)

The strength of a draft varies but our plan should stay the same.

It was fun while it lasted. But I agree, without Hickson I don't see Portland jumping off the treadmill. I suspect the pick will fall right on the brink of 12-13 again next year even with a rookie replacement for Hickson and a handful of bench players. If Aldridge's health fails to hold up, Lillard could find himself in the same situation as Kemba Walker. He would have few options and added pressure. I still think this POR team is one key injured player away from being a bottom 10 team for a couple more years. Missing this pick could be a blessing that we won't realize for many years to come. But watching POR next year will be interesting. Seeing DET in the bottom 5 would be even more interesting and I look forward to "The Detroit Pick Watch Thread" in 2014.

We don't get Detroit's pick if it's top 8 next year unfortunately. However a 9th pick from Detroit and a 13-16th pick from Portland may very well translate to a top 5 pick.

Yes I know, but a bottom 5 finish for DET in 2014 frees up protection in the 2015 draft. I have a hard time seeing DET any better than bottom 8 next year as well.

I don't know. Knight, Monroe, and Drummond will all be one year older and more experienced. They have cap space this summer. I think if they amnesty CV they might have enough to pick up a SF like Iguodala. If they do that, they could potential be looking at a playoff run. Remember this is the eastern conference where Milwaukee has a 5+ game lead on the 9th seed. The Bucks.

I guess they could add Iguodola and Shabazz and catapult over Toronto, Philly and Milwaukee in a best case scenario. But who knows if Brandon Knight can get any better or if Drummond can stay healthy? And obviously the Nuggets can lock up Iggy long term. They're paying him 15. They could easily go 12-13 on an extension.

If Drummond/Monroe can start to work together, they would get pretty dangerous.

:gossip: :violin: :vent: Since Hendo is a restricted free agent, after thinking about it,there is no reason for Portland to trade anything for him. I do think the Bobcats paying cash for releasing the restriction could be a possiblity with the strength of next years draft vus this years. This would have to be a draft night decision if the right player was there at 12. Centers Willie Cauley.ST,Olynyk,Plumlee, should still be on the board, but could we do better next year in 2014? I don't think Detroit would trade Monroe for #1,especially with Drummond shooting air balls from the free throw line. Looks like we might just pick top 3 and call it a night with this years draft. :dontknow:

I don't think we let Hendo walk with the slight possibility of something happening a year from now.

I feel like this is going to happen. I hope it doesn't, but Cho's mentality of "draft talent and trade for fit" makes me worried we just sit tight with our picks. On the other hand, we were rumored to be shopping the pick in like what, December, January? Hopefully we made some kind of headway into a deal at that time and just didn't go through with it considering our pick was locked up with Chicago.

The 2014 draft looks really good. Hope this Portland pick gets deferred to next year because it could be a deep draft. Chris Walker looks like a beast and he's not even top 10 right now.

I can see Portland as #9 or #10 next year and we get their pick hopefully then . If Detroit drafts a sg that can fit with knight and sign iggy and a quality back up pf/c or 2 I can see them getting the 8th seed. So that's #13 or #14 from Portland and #15 from Detroit and like #31-34 for us to move up in next years deep draft. If we get the Portland pick we should move down and get rid of Tyrus in the process.?
