i am pretty sure that everyone agrees vinny's defensive scheme and his rotation, along =with questionable TO calls such as at the end of the spurs game needs upgrades. we also understand that CP3 is a free agent and we will need everything we can to entice him back. we know we can offer the most money, we appears to be the best team winningwise that have cap space to sign him, but cherry on top would be bringing his "big brother" chauncey in some capacity. problem is, i think bigshot is done.... at least as a player. i know he has said previously that he has no desire to be a coach in this league, but the truth is, he is highly respected as one of the best basketball minds around, and is a natural leader. vinny doesn't run this team, CP3 does. chauncey won't change that but he has more respect of CP3 that CP will listen to what chauncey has to say.
let's fire Vinny at the completion of our season, and let's bring back chauncey in clipper red white and blue

I don't know if Chauncey is far enough removed from these guys to be making tough decisions about who gets playing time and benching guys for poor performance, etc. In addition, there are proven coaches out there already, and we have no clue how good Chauncey could actually be as a coach. He hasn't even gone through being an assistant coach or any of those things. It's a big risk with a team that wants to be good now to be going with a guy that has exactly zero experience, not zero head coaching experience, but zero coaching experience altogether. If Sam Cassell has yet to get a head coaching job, how can Chauncey just get tossed into a head coaching job.
I would not do it, there's a difference between a guy that looks like a coach on the floor and being an actual head coach and having to do all the preparation, etc. Generally for those guys, in their first year, their assistants will be the ones doing most of the work and they will be learning from the assistants. With Chauncey's lack of experience, you will most likely see him just running a lot of Vinny's stuff. This team isn't a young lottery team that's in the position to do that. Miami for example went with Spoelstra after he had been an assistant and after coaching their lesser team.

Vinny got his job without any prior coaching gig, and you can't tell me chauncey will do any worse than what vinny has done so far.
mark jackson never coached before his gig at oakland, and spo was a video coordinator prior to his promotion. i understand the risk of a rookie HC, but who else is out there that can entice CP3? sloan? too old and too outdated. SVG? i prefer a coach who doesn't throw his players under the bus. JVG? can he really coach defense without tom thibodeau? can phil jackson be what he used to be without tex winter?
who else is available to replace vinny? if not chauncey, i wouldn't mind ET aka Sam Cassell but the market is thin.

Spoelstra is probably not a good example since a video coordinator would have greater knowledge and exposure to all the plays Miami and other teams were running than a current or former player would just because that is their job and they spend a ton of hours watching film.
Mark Jackson last season managed the players and lineups, but his assistant coaches were the ones doing the bulk of the strategic work, and the Warriors got him last season when their expectations were not very high, not after a 50 win season. The time to try a coach like that in his first year is probably not when you are a top level team.
Vinny was a director of player personnel, then an assistant general manager for the Suns before becoming a coach, though I do agree that he didn't have coaching experience, but he also became an NBA coach 7 years after playing. Also, in college, a lot of guys start off doing director of player personnel as their way into becoming an assistant coach and then a coach.
There are a lot more guys waiting in the ranks than you might think though. To hire a player that is one year retired would not really make me think you are very competent as a player. Mark and Vinny were hired years later. Also, coaching is such a commitment that I doubt a guy who just retired wouldn't want to at least take some time off to be with his family, or coach somewhere that he calls "home".
There are a lot of up and coming and solid assistant coaches out there looking for head coaching jobs, so the options aren't limited. The decision shouldn't be primarily made to entice Paul, and Paul isn't dumb, he also realizes that the team needs a solid coach, not just a guy who is his friend to be the coach.

i don't buy it man, it cannot be that difficult to outperform vinny. chauncey isn't just another player either, he is a very smart player who have gone through a tumultuous beginning in his career who had to learn the game to not only percevere but eventually made himself a NBA finals MVP with a team that lacked a true superstar. if anyone knows how to play a team ball and maximize its players ability on the court, it is mr big shot.
by the way, what year in NYU dental school are you? have you started clinical rotation yet?

2nd, and yes, I've had two patients, been fun. I do agree that if Vinny is the comparison then yea, it might not be too, difficult to surpass, but Vinny is not as terrible as we all make him out to be. I think fans are always more critical of their own teams coach.
