I don't know that is a definition of a serious freak accident.
Most of the time on malfunction'd landings the injuries are ankles, knees, or hip.

Maybe GeK is right. Calcium deficiency?

Did you see how his leg fell apart like it was made out of glass. Calcium deficiency on a college athlete would be rare and highly unlikely.

he could have been playing with a stress fracture he didn't know about. Sam Bowie pretty much ruined his career by playing through stress fractures.
