Are we sure they mean "basketball" player, as opposed to honoring philanderers?

He gets doubled and tripled a lot but he played good team basketball during the four games we won. He is fighting hard.

Re: Big Al: Western Conf Player of the Week
Was Al the reason we won four games in a row during the week?
Monday: He had 12 points and 9 rebounds in 18 minutes in the win over Philadelphia. It was a balanced team effort over a crappy team.
Wednesday: He had 25 points on 23 shots in 41 minutes against Phoenix. He had a nice night, but Hayward was the real star of that game.
Friday: 22 points on 21 shots playing against Meyers Leonard. Degree of difficulty? -10. Mo was clearly the MVP of this game with his huge second half.
Saturday: 20 points on 17 shots. Overshadowed by Foye's ridiculous shooting night.
I'm not saying Al didn't have a nice week, but there wasn't one game in this stretch where I thought he was clearly the best player on the court. This award was about recognizing A PLAYER on the Jazz because the team went 4-0 on the week and he was the guy who had the best traditional box score stats over that span of games.

Re: Big Al: Western Conf Player of the Week
Well the real question is not did Al dominate every game or even one game. The question is when we look at his overall performance throughout the week, did anyone help their team with more games consistently and do it at a higher level overall than AL?
Take Mo, foye and Hayward. Yes they all may have been a star of a game but they each had one not so good game throughout the week so why shouldn't AL get appreciated for being good every game and doing it at a level that meanfully improves our chances of winning that game.

I think we're kind of saying the same thing. I guess my point was that the NBA probably saw the Jazz go 4-0 and then had to pick whichever Jazz player they thought played best. I'm sure there were players in the league who had a better week than he did.

I dont get all the hate for Big Al, he has been the most consitent man on this team, he is the only one who draws double teams.
yes his defense isnt great, but come on. he is better than millsap

You know why he draws consistent double teams? Because he's really terrible at passing out of them.

"Not great" doesn't tell us much. It could mean his defense is anywhere from "pretty good" to "abjectly terrible." And he's a lot closer to "abjectly terrible" than "pretty good."
Saying Al's defense "isn't great" is like saying Kevin Ware's leg "isn't 100%".

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Congrats to Al on a great week. The haters are always going to hate--if you took that stat line and put anyone else's name next to it besides Jefferson I can't imagine you would be disapointed. If you can't give him credit for the good things he does you are by definition a hater.

First, the fact that Al averages so few turnovers while getting double and triple teamed tells you that he's not actually that terrible of a passer..... He's certainly a reluctant passer, and he forces up shots sometimes, but looking at his FG%, which is not bad by any means, you can also tell that he doesn't force that many shots......
And second, he has been trying on defense a lot more lately...... And people keep glossing over the fact that he plays a lot of his minutes with another terrible defender in Millsap......

some Jazz Fans may not liked but the truth is that Al is the main reason this team was in play offs last year and will make it this year, ok maybe Enes or Fav would give us top 4 but lets appreciate what we have

Yes, there are plenty of Jazz fans who don't like that the front office built a team around Al which is just good enough to get swept in the first round of the playoffs.
