Dorkiest Mock Draft

Post#1 » by dorkestra » Tue Mar 26, 2013 7:19 pm

1. Bobcats - Nerlens Noel: Best prospect of the year addresses team's front court needs in the long term whilst ever so subtley positioning the team for Wiggins/Parker in 2014 - the year when Noel should hopefully be back in full swing following the injury.

2. Magic - Marcus Smart: They need a point guard and they need a playmaker. Smart addresses both aspects as he is eased into the starting lineup ahead of Nelson who will probably retire a Magic and be their coach some day.

3. Cavaliers - Cody Zeller: Fiending for brotherly synergy, the Cavs nab the most skilled bigman in the draft who also happens to score relatively high in most advanced statistics of which Cleveland are known to be fond. He can even play alongside his brother in many lineups.

4. Suns - Ben McLemore: The Suns pinch themselves as McLemore falls to them and they pick him without hesitation. Dragic/McLemore backcourt of the Phoenix future.

5. Pistons - Otto Porter: Addresses a position of need and will serve as a superb role player alongside the Pistons core of future stars which includes Monroe, Drummond, and potentially Brandon Knight.

6. Hornets - Alex Len: Big and able body who some have said to have Hibbert-like potential. More importantly, Len will help solidify a Hornets front line where Lopez is the only player of center size. They want to prevent Anthony Davis from having to match up against large guys and injure himself which he seems prone to doing.

7. Kings - Shabazz Muhammad: Sacramento: Muhammad fills out the need of future small forward for the Kings.. Or so it seems to the Kings GM. Although I believe they'll pick him, I think it will be a volatile relationship, unfortunately. The Kings are one of my favorite teams, but maybe that's because I feel for some of the torture they have gone through.

8. Timberwolves - Victor Oladipo: Impressive physical specimen and devensive potential - he combines with Rubio and Shved for a well rounded 1-2-3- type of tripod. Great value for the eighth pick and Khan is loved by all.

9. Wizards - Anthony Bennett: Another great value pick in a situation created where other teams were picking more for fit. He can play as another dynamic young player to join Wall and Beal. He can play PF next to Okafor or Nene (whoever happens to be healthy).

10. Thunder - Mason Plumlee: Oklahoma City takes a guy who looks to be a solid role player to complement Westbrook and Durant with intangibles, intelligent play, and the stuff that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. Essentially, he's Nick Collison's heir apparent.

11. 76ers - Dario Saric: Philly takes a young and very promising forward from Croatia who has been compared to some of Europe's all-time greats. It's actually somewhat puzzling that he isn't projected to go higher, but he will be a great fit to round out a lineup of Holiday/Turner/Saric/Young/Bynum

12. Trailblazers - C.J. McCollum: For a team that only missed the playoffs because of being completely lacking in depth, McCollum provides a scoring spark off the bench for a team that sorely needed it after seeing Jamal Crawford leave so quickly. I liken McCollum to a Randy Foye type player.

13. Mavericks - Trey Burke: Dallas picks up a promising young point guard to avoid overspending for the likes of Brandon Jennings or Jeff Teague in the off-season. Burke, Crowder, and the guy who will most likely resign in Mayo, along with Brandan Wright make up a future core to build on for post-Dirk days.

14. Jazz - Michael Carter-Williams: Utah needs a youthful injection at the point and has ever since they sent Deron Williams packing for what became a frontcourt with very high potential.

Im next to positive that the Cavs wont be drafting Zeller unless they fall significantly in the lottery.

How can you be so sure, B Mac? Who do you believe they would be more interested in?

I would put Noel, Len, Oladipo, Porter, and maybe even Bennett above him for the Cavs.

I don't see Portland passing on Len.
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

To be honest with you, it looks from some reports that the Blazers might explore trading the pick for a defensive-minded center. If they don't trade, I don't think they could pass up Giannis' talent here. And why Len after they just drafted a guy last year in Leonard who bears some resemblance (not completely) to Len in terms of what he can contribute to a team and how quickly. I think picking Len would be redundant for them.

He's more proven than a lot of the other European prospects - he has a silky smooth shot and while he's not the fastest guy, he still has lateral quickness and a good feel for the game. I could also see Crabbe being potentially more palatable, but I liked the idea of drafting the Euro backcourt which I feel would be stylistically complimentary to their current young core.

If you want Utah to draft a SG then Karasev is a good choice, as i think he is going to end up playing SG in the NBA.

I'm excited for tonight so I can finally have the real order in the lottery. Always feels a bit funny making projections for teams when we know it won't fall exactly as it is supposed to. Random prediction: Sacramento gets the 1st overall pick
