so much hilarity in this thread but I enjoyed this one the most.

I often think how I got Snake Eyes without giving up Storm Shadow when I was younger & traded my GI Joes. Thank you for reminding me how.

I'd rather have

Knight/Shabazz over just having Holiday.

Can't say I feel the same way, although whether or not we get a starter-quality wing in FA definitely makes it easier to say yes.

Amnesty CV31, waive Stuckey ($4 M Guarantee), have a top 6-7 pick, pick 35ish:

Knight/______/______
______/______/English
______/Middleton/Singler
Monroe/________/Jerebko
Drummond/______/Krav

With our 1st I'm fine with any of: Noel, McLemore, Porter, Muhammad, Bennett, Olandipo in that order.
With our 2nd I like a guy like Deshaun Thomas, Patric Young, LeBryan Nash or Adrien Payne

We all know the majors needs of the team, 2 starting players, a backup PG and 3rd & 4th big guys.

ESPN did a feature and listed the only teams as having enough cap room to make major moves as the Pistons, Cavs, Jazz and Hawks (if they let Josh Smith walk). I wouldn't expect the Cavs to eat up cap space and take away from their LBJ fantasy, the Jazz have to deal with Millsap and/or Jefferson and the Hawks have the Smith situation.

In the FA pool there are a few guys who are young enough and good enough to be starters with our core. The moves with CV31 and Stuckey give us enough cap room to sign a couple of max to near max deals in FA. If we could add two of: Josh Smith, Andre Iguodala, OJ Mayo, Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings, Jeff Teague, Tony Allen I would much prefer that strategy to adding multiple Corey Brewer level FAs. The history of MLE level FAs isn't great, it just makes sense to me to try and add two starters with our cap room opposed to 1 starter and hoping to hit another out of 3 MLE guys.

A top 6 of Drummond, Monroe, Knight, (one of Noel, McLemore, Porter, Muhammad, Bennett, Olandipo), (two of Josh Smith, Andre Iguodala, OJ Mayo, Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings, Jeff Teague, Tony Allen) and lotto tickets in Middleton, English, Singler & '13 2nd rounder could be pretty interesting pretty quickly.

I GUARANSHEED THIS WILL HAPPEN. SATAN TOLD ME. THEN GOD TOLD HE IT WAS NO LIE.

Det out: Knight, Moose, Drummond, 1st (OttoPorter), Stuckey, English, Middleton, Singler, Jerebko, Villanueva, Kravstov, both 2nd's
Det in: Kevin Durant, Lebron James

Mia out: Lebron James
Mia in: Knight, Singler, Jerebko, Moose, Perkins, 2nd rounder
why? depth where they need it and youth

OKC out: Durant, Perkins
OKC in: Stuckey(exp), English, Middleton, Porter, Villanueva(exp), Drummond, LAC 2nd rounder
why? for payroll, and get Drummond, Porter and some shooting

at first, I didn't like it.
BUT, we get 2 pretty good players and then sign 11 cheap free agents.
Chauncey, T-mac, Daye, Sheed, Big Ben and 6 others.
we'll probs make the playoffs...

Pretty sure Cavs won't be spending any money in FA next season. They will tank again to get a Wiggins or Parker and they'll also hope to get LBJ back.

That's how the Cavs franchise works.

To the Cavs credit, i'd tank on purpose next year to have a shot at Parker or Wiggins, franchise changing dudes.

Stuckey/English/Middleton/Singler/Jerebko/Kravstov (17.2 million, Stuckey expiring 8.5m)

for

Luol Deng (14.2 milion)

Obviously good for us.

From the Bulls perspective....
they have several guys walking or re-signing...
Nate Robinson
Deq Cook
Rip
Marco Bellinelli
VladRad
Nazr Mo

They lose the best player, but they get better depth than the guys who are walking.
$3 million on 5 extra roster spots is obviously good financially.
The incoming guys are young.
They have niches: a few shooters. A scoring Stuckey. Jerebstov as potential hustle guys.

The Bulls keep their 2 all-pro's and the scoring of Boozer, the good play of Butler (a younger than Deng sf)

Fire frank-hire bill lambier
let max,will,calderon,mags expire
trade knight and english for another 1st and draft mac and trey
sign erick gordon or oj mayo and a good sf and some good backups
we can keep stuck to back up the pg,sg position
pg-trey-stuck
sg-oj/gordon-mac
sf-loul deng-middleton
pf-moose-sign backup
c-drummond-krav-sign backup
That right there can get us back to the playoffs and is a good team to go forward with.We could keep knight and trade stuckey, singler and our 2 2nd round picks for another 1st,but with keeping stuck he can play the 1-2 and if we draft burke I could see him taking over the starting pg spot and that would leave knight out, might as well trade him to a team that would start him (but that would not beneifit us)

I don't know Pete...Knight and Cousins will be our only offensive weapons...I like your defensive mind-set but we're going to need more fire power...

Have you guys watched Evan Fournier? He's been garnering more minutes since Gallinari busted his knee. That kid can score, and more importantly can shoot the rock from distance! He's great size for a 2, 6'6 and he's pretty fast.

I'd love to trade for him.

I've mentioned wanting to bring him over quite a few times...

A lot of our offensive guys would be coming off the bench. And don't underrate Oladipo and Aminu offensively. They may not be great offensively, but they are capable scorers.

Gores needs to spend what it takes to get a winner in here to coach this team. Last coach we hired that came here as a winner was in 2006 with Flip. Its no wonder you have to keep changing coaches ever few years when you consistently hire losers, or guys with no experience.

Get someone who's a proven winner, and we won't be changing coaches every year

1. Stuckey/English/Middleton/Singler/Jerebko/Kravstov for Luol Deng
note: Bulls have lots of bench players walking and J.Butler looks like a sweet young sf for them
they save money overall and get younger. these guys are a bit better than the bench players who walk.

2. pay Stern to get the 1st pick and to bump Orlando to 4th

3. Villanueva and Nerlens Noel and both 2nd's for Afflalo and Trey Burke
Orlando tanks with CV (expires w/ Hedo) and a star rook who won't play most of the season.

4. Tell Jose/Willy/Corey/Jason that it's been real.

5. sign: Daye, Millsap, Dalembert

6. sign with spare change: Billups, McGrady, Grant Hill (coaxing him and LAC), Big Ben

Knight/Burke
Afflalo/McGrady
Deng/Daye
Moose/Millsap
Drummond/Dalembert

reserves: Billups, Hill, Wallace

that team is top-5 in perimeter D and interior D. Easily.
top-10 in shooting and passing. Easily.
completely effing awesome without a Kobe/Lebron/Melo/Durant. It's happened before.

Dinosaur Team!
Championship Time!

7. Hire Warspite to do color commentary.

8. Hire Piston Pete to be Hooper.

9. Something or other with Lawrence Frank. Maybe.

And since it would be rude to start a thread and then not post my own take on things here we go:

First mission: force Joe Dumars to retire. Explain to him that after the last 5 years his beloved Pistons simply can't attract quality coaches and players with him in charge. He'll either retire of his own accord or I would create a BS "position" within the organisation so he can stay employeed... but he'll have no further say in anything related to the Pistons.

2nd mission: hire Ryan McDonough from the Boston Celtics (thanks Kilo).

http://www.sbnation.com/longform/2013/3 ... gh-profile

3rd mission: Coaching staff... Frank was part of the Celtics staff before coming here but he's got to go. Detroit has never been a desired destination for quality free agents and having a poor coach AND a rookie GM AND a poor location = 3 strikes. I can't change the location but can certainly change the coach...

Hire Mike Budenholzer... 16 years as an assistant coach... 5 as the #1 to Pop...

http://www.nba.com/coachfile/mike_budenholzer/

New GM... new Head Coach... Now time for the New Roster...

Draft:

Lotto Pick = McLemore, Olapido, Porter or Bazz - whichever player our trusted scouts think will be better :)

For the rest of this plan I'll assume we draft Olapido as McLemore is taken before #5

2nd Round Picks = highly unlikely we strike gold.. but I hope our scouts can get someone capable of making a contribution at #35. At #55 it's "stash a Euro" time...

Free Agency

Amnesty CV-DNP
Pay Stuckey $4 million to walk away
Renounce Maxiell, Maggette, Bynum and Jose Calderon

Team Salary = $18,256,686 (assuming the #5 pick = $2 million in salary)
Cap Space = $41,743,314 (assuming a salary cap of $60 mil)

Under contract:

Drummond/Slava
Monroe/Jerebko
Singler/Middleton
Olapido/English
Knight

I'm on record numerous times saying that we need a quality shooter (or 2) on the wings, a veteran PG and a quality back up big man... and looking at the roster I enter free agency with it's even more obvious what we need.

First things first: Hope Speights chooses to be a free agent!

With more than $40 mil to spend it's time to go shopping:

Bigs = Speights starting @ $6 mil per season and David West @ $10 mil per season

Best thing about signing those 2 it we weaken divison rivals :)

Wings = Corey Brewer starting @ $6 mil per season and Al-Farouq Aminu @ $6 mil per season

Brewer can handle some SG and Aminu could defend stretch 4's in certain line-ups

PG = Jarrett Jack starting @ $6 mil per season

With those guys signed I've got a total team salary just over $52 mil. IF I needed to spend more money to reach the minimum team salary required I'd give whatever was needed to Will Bynum for 1 season only.

Roster:

Drummond/Speights/Slava
Monroe/West/Jerebko
Aminu/Singler/Middleton
Brewer/Olapido/English
Knight/Jack (and possibly Bynum)

Deep, athletic, versatile...

nice one P, i would co-sign this if it was possible

just one problem with so many teams having capspace, why would guy like Jack & West sign here to be backups, they can get that kind of money (and maybe more) from better teams, where they can be starters.

But i agree, this team need a new leadership first and foremost, Joe D & Frank gotta go, that would be a good start.

here is my tweeked version, amnesty Charlie, buy out Stuckey ofc.

I would like to sign Tyreke Evans(9-10 per year), he would be a good fit next to Knight, he is actually what Stuckey was suppossed to be, he is still young, and actually seems to get "it". I dont get the Calderon hate, he is the first effective guard in a Pistons jersey since Chauncey Billups i want to keep him. (ideally as a 30 min per back backup at 7 per year) A Evans, Knight, Calderon backcourt would be a good 3 guard rotation.

I would like to get a C like Dalembert(4 per year) to backup Dre, we need another defensiv big to protect the rim, Speights (5-6 per year) cant do that, but he would be a prefect backup for Monroe.

Drummond/Dalembert/Slava
Monroe/Speights/Jerebko
Brewer/Singler/Middleton
Evans/Oladipo/English
Knight/Calderon/minimum PG

I have a really hard time to find any decent starting SF for the Pistons. Maybe the best way would be to get a guy like Porter, but thats not gonna happen with pick 7 or 8.
Aminu cant shoot, Brewer (MLE should do it) seems really like the best option, but i still doubt he can be a full time starter on a good team.

I went with players I haven't really mentioned before.

Normally the big man I mention is Millsap... someone I believe doesn't view the starter/bench thing like most fans do. Players want to play, players want to win and players want to get paid.

Paying our back-up big man $10 mil to play 30 minutes each and every night sounds crazy to some "because he comes off the bench". 30 minutes = starting minutes... I'm not paying someone that much money to play half the game...

I went with West because the Pacers are going to have some serious cap issues if they want to pay him $10 mil due to Paul George coming on like he has. They could do some kind of trade with Granger to clear up some of the payroll but that's up to them.

IF we offered West a large contract as soon as we were able he might jump and he has skills that compliment Monroe and Drummond.

I also normally opt for retaining Calderon because of his offensive skills... and the fact he's extremely efficient. People claim he didn't bring wins... forgetting that Drummond got injured right around the time he was acquired. I could get Calderon to stay with this plan but went for someone different.

Would Jack come here for $6 mil? Maybe! We'd have to sell him on playing with the rest of the roster. I think that's do-able. He'd really have the same role here he has for the Warriors

I like the Dalmbert signing... often considered him myself due to his experience and the fact he can protect the paint whenever Drummond is off the floor. Not a fan of Evans but that's because I view him as a Stuckey-type and you know how I feel but Stuckey.

Lots of options for us this off-season but a complete make over is what I think it's going to take to turn this franchise around. Here's hoping Gores and his suits can get the job done

Return to Detroit Pistons
