Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread 2.0
The Wizards have the luxury of picking the "best player available" (if they can figure out who that might be). They have current or pending needs (meaning by the end of the 2014 season) at every spot on the floor:
- 3rd guard to go with Wall and Beal
- SF to replace Ariza and/or Webster
- big man to replace Okafor/Nene/Booker in rotation
- 3rd guard to go with Wall and Beal

David Aldridge suggested in his column the Wizards give Wall a 5 year, $69 million contract.

I would be happy offering him 5 year, 64 million. 13 million a year sounds about right.

I think in EG's mind the P in BPA stands for project. When the pick isn't obvious that is what he seems to go for.

That would be awesome. That's $2M a year less than the max. I think he'll end up getting the max though. The Wall of last month deserves the max. The Wall of the entire season does not.FAH1223 wrote:David Aldridge suggested in his column the Wizards give Wall a 5 year, $69 million contract.

The max actually is 5 years $78 million in John's case. It would be 4 years $58 million if he doesn't receieve the designated franchise player label.

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread 2.0
Was bored in class, so decided to look into Wall's stats for his last 13 games, starting with the Cleveland game on March 12, which seems like the game where things really changed for him. Mindblowing numbers
PPG: 24.8
RPG: 5.5
APG: 9.0
STL: 1.6
BPG: 0.6
TO: 2.8
FGM: 8.4
FGA: 17.1
FG%: 49.1%
3PM: 0.7
3PA: 1.3
3P%: 52.7%
FTM: 7.4
FTA: 8.9
FT%: 82.7%
TS%: 59%
eFG: 51%
AST/TO Ratio: 3.25
AST%: 43.5%
USG%: 29.7%
Don't think I have ever seen a player go from playing at the level John Wall did, to the level he is currently at. Hope it is sustainable, he is really fun to watch.

I hope you didn't spend too much time on that.
Just FYI, you can go the game log section of the John Wall page on basketballreference.com. Highlight the Cleveland game, hold shift, and highlight the last game, and it'll sum up all the stats for you. It works for advanced stats too.

Wow i didn't know we could do that. Thanks
Wall's jumper left him a bit in the 4th but overall that was one of the best floor games i have ever seen from him. Too bad his teamates blew so many easy shots. That should have been a double digit win.

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread 2.0
Those 2 1 TO games just dropped his TOV another .3
Wall have had 4 one turnover games in the last in the last seven games.
TOV is now at 16.8 which. Hopefully he can keep this up and get it down to the 16 range.
Of the PG with a AST% of at least 40, 16.8 is still a little high.
Wall is at 44.7 and 16.8
Its better then Rondo 49.9 and 22.6
Its better then Greivis 45.4 and 18.7
Its better then Rubio 39.0 and 21.7
He its getting close to Jose C who is 40.1 and 15.6 ( this is his most similar comparison right now )
But its not in the range of the elites
CP3 46.2 and 14.2
Tony Parker 40.3 and 12.7
Side Note.
Wall TOV the first 20 games was 20
Walls March numbers was Ast% 42.8 and TOV% 13.7
That's Rondo territory and not all that far from CP3

Haha after plugging his points total into excel, I thought to myself: "Wait a minute, this is 2013". Went to NBA.com and found most of the stats there from the new stats page. Thanks for the advice though!

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread 2.0
Another Grantland feature on Wall. This guy's no Zach Lowe, but he does provide some obligatory shot charts. No new info here, but it's still nice to see Wall continue to receive some shine.
http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-trian ... -john-wall
When we talk about alignment in the NBA, we talk about how well players and teams play to their strengths. For example, when the Heat get Ray Allen good shots in the left corner they are aligning their strategies with their strengths. When the Celtics design sets to get Kevin Garnett open looks from 17 feet they are doing the same. The frustrating flip side is when players or teams are highly active in areas where they are not very efficient. For years, the NBA’s poster boy for misalignment has been Atlanta’s Josh Smith. Although he clearly possesses tremendous basketball talent, it’s well-established that Smith and his coaches fail to realize his on-court potential, in part because he spends too much time jump shooting and too little time near the basket.
If it weren’t for Smith, perhaps Wall would the league’s most misaligned player.
Over his first few seasons, it would be fair to characterize Wall’s jump-shooting behavior as extremely active and terribly inefficient. He loves to shoot 2-point jump shots outside 10 feet. In his first two seasons in the NBA, Wall shot 757 such shots. He made only 224, or 29.6 percent.
Since returning from injury in January, Wall has clearly established himself as the most valuable basketball player in Washington. The Wizards were blindingly awful without him and are actually pretty good with him. In the 33 games Wall missed this year, the Wizards went 5-28; they’ve gone 23-19 since his return, a stretch where they’ve beaten teams like the Knicks, Nuggets, Rockets, Grizzlies, and Lakers.
Similarly, over the past month or so, Wall’s jumper has established itself as the most critical component of the Wizards' success; it’s not only a make-or-break thing in Wall’s game, it’s a make-or-break thing for that whole team. Going forward, if Wall can make that shot, it opens up their entire offense.

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread 2.0
Wall provides elements that aren't measured in statistics, while some might be but they are those abstract statistics that many don't check.
His leadership has stepped up immensely. His defense and he's like a mini-LBJ on those chase down blocks. It can't be a coincidence that almost every player's % rose since Wall came back: Ariza, Beal, etc.
