People are overrating ricky rubio again on this board aren't they? Rubio isn't better than Lin I honestly would probably take John wall over rubio. I like rubio he is one of my favourite young players & I am not even a john wall fan but rubio is a limited in so many ways on the offensive end it isn't even funny

It's not about Rubio being that great. It's that Lin sucks. I'd take a healthy Douglas over Lin.

John Wall would destroy Rubio. Spanish players don't really impress me. Even guys like Gasol...good supporting cast players but no way top 5 prospect in a draft. Definitely not franchise.
On a different note, hoping for a Houston vs Denver.

Don't know about that...if anything it seems like they have a very unselfish/team oriented mindset....Gasol in his prime could have definitely scored 25points a game if he wanted to. Also Marc has been remarkably good for Memphis....if you think about it---Memphis really isn't that talented or deep....I strongly believe that their success is mostly due to Marc's play(and Conley who I like a lot).

Re: Around the nba part 7
Yes John Wall is a better player than rubio. Rubio has talent don't get me wrong. terrific passer, solid defender, solid rebounder. but rubio is so limited offensively it isn't even funny. and the reason he is limited athletically. rubio doesn't have the athletic explosion that wall & rondo have & ricky never will. so ricky will always be an individual offensive liability & as a result that makes him a below average starting PG. Minny plays 4 on 5 because of ricky. minny's offense runs better with him off the floor than on last year.
Rubio is extremely good at what he does, but his flaws limit him too much to ever be a star. Even if he becomes a great outside shooter we're talking about a Jose Calderon-level player with better defense

Sadly I guess the opposite will be true. #7 is one of the hardest summer workers in the NBA, he is gonna get better and better. If anything the talk that we let him go is gonna rage even more. By next year, he should legitimately be one of the top 7 PGs in the L.
It's like Yao. People associated Yao with only "giant asian dude" when he first came to the L. But as he got better and better, people then associated him with "perhaps the best center in the L". Same with #7, as he gets better and better, you will see people stop associating him with "that asian dude" and more with "one of the best PGs in the L, respect".
Actually I just noted that both Lin and Melo (aka Shaq Kobe v.2) wear same number lol

Lol, take back your race card. I like smart players, that's it.
Rasho.. I don't mean it in it bad way.. you should be as biased to european ball players as I am to Puerto Rican baseball players. Don't take offense it's just something that is given.
I'm not and I shouldn't be. Look at my thoughts in that Is John Cena Albanian thread.

I think there's more to ballplayers bias than just nationalism (although one might even doubt the very existence of the European nationalism vs. single states one).
I mean, Europeans have watched Ricky grow up (usually cheering against him

The funny thing is Rubio became an NBA millionaire adult looking more or less the same throughout the years.
But I don't like this choice, either Ricky or Lin. One can like both of them, right?

Exactly. There are just some players' abilities I have a better grasp on because I've watched them play longer. I think I even saw Rubio play in person when he was 16 or 17, but somehow I managed to get drunk before every game I attended so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

I know I'm not reading that.
I don't know about the race card but two things:
1. I don't think Rasho would be so steadfast in supporting Rubio if he was from Indiana and went to Perdue, Gallo if he was from Ohio and went to Rutgers, or Goran if he was from Virginia and went to LIU.
2. I think Lin being underrated has something to do with his race. Not from Rasho necessarily but in general. It's not the only thing or even perhaps the main thing, but it's in the mix. Harvard, race, undrafted and Linsanity itself are the main factors I can see. Linsanity is now viewed as some kind of Rudy story. It wasn't. The guy is a baller.
Oh, but I do want to add that I think Lin has an awkward delivery. His jumper is far from smooth, pretty or pure. He has some awkward layup releases. He doesn't look that great doing what he does. But so what. Neither did Mark Jackson. He was far from smooth. And I've seen guys who were really smooth who were pretty bad.
Lin's jumper looks smooth enough to me. You make him sound like Ronnie Brewer.

You don't see Lin's release too much in the NBA. He looks like a D-II player the way he jumps and releases. It's not the usual form. He kind of winds up. But whatever. Shawn Marion has a terrible release and has been making shots for a decade.

Re: Around the nba part 7
In fairness to Rasho, he also said he didn't think Mozgov was any good ... he turned out to be right when I thought Moz had a lot of potential ... and he also gave the thumbs down on Teletubby who is scrubbing it up for the Nets ... he was right again on him.
So there is some more familiarity to players with him if they played overseas, which causes him to form stronger judgments about them (good or bad but mostly good
).
Still the bad reviews he's given does validate him pretty well. Maybe one day he'll admit that Rubio is a disappointment

I don't remember saying Mozgov wasn't any good. I remember saying his game resembles a poor man's Tyson Chandler.

Really? I thought you pretty much told me not to expect much and didn't like him.

If Lin ever becomes a legit all star, this forum could get ugly, especially if the Knicks are losing.

Why? As long as the Lin fans are contained to this one thread, everything will be fine.

You should take pride in every players success from Europe... A little bit of pride isn't a bad thing. Strictly talking about basketball.. which is a non-serious issue.

Just a small addition the rubio evaluation. Matt moore posted this bball reference link showing just how unreal rubio is at stealing the ball.

Lin is 10th in the league in steals.
