BoSawx @ Yanks: Game 1 April 1st Storm of Swords

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Sun Mar 31, 2013 3:22 pm

After nearly 17 yrs of trying to out do each other, the rivalry between Boston and New York has become a bit stagnant. Both franchises are looking to dump salary, re-load their armories, and become a little more fiscally responsible (but still price gouging their fans).

Tickets available for Opening day, $398-499 behind home plate.

The Red Sox have dumped two bad contracts (Crawford, Beckett) for A-Gone who mysteriously lost his power numbers in a hitter friendly park. Right now, the Sawx management know 1 WS is good for 86 yrs. 2 WS is worth over 100 yrs. Fans are accustomed to losing in that town.

Over in New York, we've become pampered by the competitive fires of Mad King George who might be hasty but is ultimately craves to be champion. With the decaying/dying fires of Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, and Mariano Rivera... new vision under Hal Steinbrenner who is trying to sell to the fans that it's not win at all costs but the competitive boast of winning at $189M or less.

So far, the plan is off to a shaky start. GM Brian Cashman touted his trio of young arms: Ian Kenndy, Joba Chamberlain, and Philip Hughes. NONE of them have turned out the way the Yanks had expected. He traded the Yankees best hitting prospect, brought a 2 pitch hurler still rehabbing from a torn labrum. Teams seemed to have caught up with Ivan Nova. While Curtis Granderson played an important role getting the Yanks a WS in 2009, he's been untradeable in the final year of his contract. So many injuries have forced Cashman to (panic and) take on a bad contract in Vernon Wells.

With Cano in his contract year at a position where there aren't too many great 2B available...I know his agent Scott Boras will make the Yanks pay dearly.

Batten down the hatches, Yankee fans...its going to be stormy for a while.

Match ups:
Game 1: Lester @ Sabbathia

Game 2: Bucholtz @ Kuroda

Game 3: Dempster @ Pettitte

Let's GO Yanks!

i dont see the hate for the wells contract. after what the angels picked up we owe him just 11M over 2 years, including just 2M next season.

I've got a feeling even when the injured players come back, this is going to be a long season.

if we pitch well we can still wins some games. but this line is u-g-l-y. i mean if cano doesnt go HAM we will struggle to score 3-4 runs. we dont have any run producers.

also, ichiro needs to bad 1 or 2. lefty on the mound or not

Cano is such a moron... why are you throwing to first on that when the guy running to second is right in front of you with nowhere to go. gotta get the lead runner

Strange line up. Any one know why Hafner was used as a pinch runner? Also, Joba...ugh.

Get used to this. 81 wins is optimistic I think.

Sabathia winds up on DL extended by, hmm, 70th game.
Petite goes on DL at least once, as he's lacking "enhancements"
Kuroda goes boom, goes on DL at least once, based on odds.
Phil Hughes is always a disaster waiting to happen.

Andy Pettitte holds the Sawx off 2 innings. BEST start already.

Trust me, I'm fine with the Yanks going 0-162 if that need be to expose Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman for being "fiscally responsible" but never showing the books that makes a franchise worth 2.4 billion and the right to price gouge fans...

Andy Pettitte puts in 8 solid innings. Mo shook off some rust, preserved the win for his first save.

Two old hands from Stick that Cash tried/lost Andy in 2004...and ALMOST lost Mo before 2009. Yet Cash gave Kei Igawa 30M that he spent living in Manhattan and having a private limo taking him to pitch batting practice in AAA.
