It would really suck if we went against the Bulls and they got Rose back for Game 1

edit: I would love to see the Heat have to face Boston with a healthy KG and a bionically re-built Rondo in the first round and then second round face a warmed and angry Bulls team before possibly getting to us.

i really doubt we will face the bulls, they have 6 of their finale 8 games coming up vs lottery teams and one vs us so we can "rest guys" that night if we want, hawks on the other hand only have 6 games left and 3 to playoff teams also one vs us the last game of the season so we can use that as a warmup game
its ether going to be Boston or Atalanta

Re: Who do you want? Who do you think?
As far as I'm concerned the Bulls are not gonna lose that 5th seed. They have an extremely easy schedule the rest of the way (Orlando twice,Toronto twice,Philly and Detroit)---they do play us and Miami as well but there is no telling if Miami is gonna play their stars either. I see the Bulls go 6-2 in a worst case , with 7-1 being possible. They own the tiebreaker over the Hawks as well and the Hawks have the most difficult schedule left ---games in San Antonio,NY and 2 against Philly. I see the Hawks going 3-3 the rest of the way. I guess that's a pretty good thing to avoid Chicago and have Miami fighting against them in the second round, especially considering the fact that Noah will return well rested hopefully.
There is an outside chance the Hawks drop to the 7th seed because Boston has the tiebreaker--especially if Garnett returns on sunday like he said he might possibly do. Still the Celtics would have to play really well and beat Brooklyn and Indiana at home and they also play Miami on the road. Not probable, but still possible. I say if they take care of their next two home games and proceed to beat Brooklyn on wednesday they'll be in a virtual tie with Atlanta.
I see it playing out like this:
1.Hawks go 3-3 and end up with 45-37
2.Bulls go 6-2 and end up with 47-35 (pretty impressive that they essentially win around close to 50 games with Rose completely out and also battling other injuries--the Bulls are a dangerous team--best regards, your dearest Tim Thibodeau)
3.Boston goes 4-3 (There is no telling whether Garnett is gonna really return or extend his rest and frankly...Boston just does not seem to be that motivated to make a push for the 6th seed)---43-39
Although those teams are kinda close record wise I really don't see much happening there
1.Miami
2./3. NY/Indy
4.Brooklyn
5.Chicago
6.Atlanta
7.Celtics
8.Milwaukee
So essentially it comes down to this: the 2nd seed gets the tougher first round series while having HCA in a possible second round while the 3rd seed gets the significantly easier first round series while not having HCA in the second round. I'd still like to grab that second seed and face Boston---but in the grand scheme of things there really isn't much of a difference which brings me to my last point:
GET TYSON and MARTIN healthy for the playoffs....that's the most important thing. There is not a substantial difference between 2nd/3rd seed in terms of reaching the ECF.

Re: Who do you want? Who do you think?
Actually I'm pretty happy to avoid Chicago.....I think after Miami they're the toughest matchup for us. As long as Tyson and Martin are healthy I believe Indiana is gonna have big time trouble scoring against us.
I also don't like the prospect of 6'10 Deng guarding Melo in a physical series. I frankly don't believe you beat a team 3 times by chance---and at the time we were facing the Bulls we weren't even as horrible as later on during that dreadful stretch. I'm also happy the Bulls face Brooklyn in the first round....should be an extremely interesting/entertaining first round series and Chicago vs. Miami a nice 2nd round matchup.

I understand wishing for an easier path to glory but to me, it is not the NY way... to fear anyone. I want Boston, I loathe them, the team, their fans, and their city.
Crushing them would be sweet and no one could say we didn't earn our victories.

On the one hand I definitely agree with you guys but on the other hand I asked myself: Would we still be so eager to play Boston if they had a healthy Rondo?I think it's more a combination of knowing that the Celtics are around 50% of what they were and this just being a good opportunity to get some revenge. I don't think any knick fan would line up and want to play a fully healthy Boston team....Rondo alone would make us sweat...

Re: Who do you want? Who do you think?
The obvious choice of who I'd like to play would be Atlanta. They don't possess anything that scares me. Josh Smith is so overrated but he is a great defensive player, although Melo lit him up the other night. This would be at most a 5 game series, probably a sweep.
They're most likely facing the Celtics if they keep the 2 seed. I still think the Knicks win that series in 6 but it'll be tough. The Celtics are really in a tailspin mostly due to injuries.

Make the Knicks great again!

The #1 goal should be avoiding Chicago. They've beaten us three times and you KNOW they'll bring Rose back against us. I wouldn't be surprised if he's almost at full MVP level right away... I think he's been healthy for a while now and has been sitting out to get as much rest as possible.
There's currently 2.5 games separating the 7th seed (Boston) for the 6th and 5th seeds, which are tied between Chicago and Atlanta. So if we fall to 3rd, we're basically a coin flip away from an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE matchup against Chicago. So it's really important to keep fighting for that 2 seed. Knicks-Pacers next Sunday will be an awesome game.

I think hawks remain 6th. We should seriously consider falling to third.

Or we should consider the Pacers home record in the 2nd round

Re: Who do you want? Who do you think?
I think if we get the 2nd seed it'll be because we are playing some of the best ball in the league right now and it won't matter a ton who we play in the first
that said Chi is the least desirable opponent for us
Boston Im mixed about. Id like to slay that beast but Id also like to have an easy advance
Atl is the most mentally weak of all playoff teams. They have the thinnest talent level as well. Id prefer them in the first round.
In truth I don't even understand how Atl is placed where they are. I know they had a great run at one point but they simply look terrible to me.
Im more afraid of Mil than Atl
Not to mention the strange home court we seem to enjoy in Atl
