Is it safe to say that Boneface has lost the 2b job?

i think its best izzy takes the 2b, since boneface add's speed and depth in the infield and outfield even if he is error prone.

One would hope. He's a butcher out there. They can't afford that kind of infield defense.

I wouldn't penalize him this early. I'd like to see him man 2nd for a few more games simply because of the dynamic his speed adds to lineup. However, I do see where the frustration is coming from.

Four games actually (and his entire career before that). I didn't fully grasp how bad his infield defense was until I saw it this week.

Outfield always was his best position. Our defence will get better when Lawrie is back and Izturis slides into starts at 2nd. Leave Boneface for outfield backup or semi-platoon with Lind.

He just looks like he has no confidence at all and it compounds the suckitude. Like that Brooks Conrad display in the playoffs a couple years ago; keeps getting worse and worse. Can't believe he used to play SS. Guess we're stuck with Maicer in the lineup pretty much every day this season, which was what I was afraid of when we signed him. Ideally he'd be playing the role Boni is currently playing, and we'd have a more competent regular 2B.

I think we'll see Maicer back at 2B once Lawrie's back. Leave Bonifacio as the super utility guy.

I can see that, but at the same time I do want to see the coaches try and groom him into an infield player. While I don't think he's a longterm solution there, he's not as short-term as Izturis is. He's made under 70 career starts at 2nd base. I think if he learned it he might work there, but right now he's just not an infielder whatsoever. I'm sure they'll give him more time though, only 4 games into the year.

He has shown some good stuff and some bad stuff. Obviously the bad stuff outweighs the good.

I haven't seen any of the good stuff. Even the plays Buck and Pat were lauding him for prior to tonight's game were just simple plays that he made to look difficult. Derek Jeter-esque, except he's not even good at making the plays you're supposed to make. Bad hands, bad range. Bad combination.

It's still too early, he's made some nice plays too

IF things keep going the way they are and IF Lind continues struggling with the bat and falls out of favor, I wouldn't mind maybe Boni go to first like we did with EE?

Bonifacio has a career .672 OPS. So...no.

Bonifacio has a pretty fringy bat even at SS/2B. The thing is that's really the only place that his bat plays. Anywhere else and he sits.

Izturis sucks, I hope not- don't know why we signed him.

He's definitely not terrible. He's right around a 2 WAR player so he's not a star but for a 2B he has a slightly above average OBP with good defense and speed. He's a solid but unflashy 2B option for us.

Bonifacio has all kinds of flash but at the end of the day he's a really poor defender at 2B. I don't think he can stay the starter when Lawrie returns.

Boni's D has been terrible so far, but I've hated watching Izturis at 3B too - now it could be second is his more natural position, but I've counted at least three runs so far that have scored because of his mediocre defence at 3b. Hopefully both of them will improve (I wonder if some of this is getting used to the way the ball bounces off the turf vs natural grass - it does come at you differently). If not, we have a problem.

15 errors in 69 career starts at 2B with average range numbers. High error counts at SS and 3B as well. Seems like more than just 1 bad game to me.

Izturis actually has solid fielding numbers at 2B (low errors, above average range) and their bats are similar so it seems like a no brainer to me.

I know. I was being sarcastic, hence the eye rolling.

Anyway, looks like we have a 32 year old that put up an 82 wRC+ last season in the lineup every day. At least he has a decent glove.
