Farrell Calls Out Wilner..

Post#1 » by Redeemer » Sat Apr 6, 2013 2:32 pm

From USATODAY

He was asked by Mike Wilner, a member of the Blue Jays broadcast crew, what he thought might happen.

"Mike, all the things you've reported and encouraged, I'm sure there will be some boos tonight," Farrell said.

Wilner told Farrell he thought the implication was unfair that fans were being encouraged to react.

   first cito, now farrell. wilner needs to get the axe soon.

Hell no! The man is a huge douche. I couldn't stand listening to him after trying once or twice.

Anyone have a video? How serious was Farrell's tone?

What I found interesting sitting by the 3B line was I forgot all about Brian Butterfield. He's the 3B coach now for the Sox. Fans in the area were calling him a turncoat, lol. But how come he doesn't get knocked more? Was it his choice to leave?

AA never guaranteed him that his position was safe. his contract was up and farrell offered him a job. i can never knocked other coaches because theres so minuscule unless its the pitching coach. brad arnsberg comes to mind.

Yeah, because it was Wilner's reporting that made the Jays fans resent Farrell. And not his own actions and words.

+1

This is basically on par with Farrell's insistence that he was "traded" as a response to why he chose to leave.

The obsession with Wilner on this board is getting really **** boring

Laughable that Blue Jays fans take their cues from WIlner. Next to Farrell probably the least liked guy at Rogers centre last night.

I don't mind Wilner as a straight PBP guy -- but when he gets into opinion, the wheels just come off.

+1 I actually didn't mind him as the pbp guy. in the spring he was horrible, may be because he was playing off of hayhursts' colour work. but if there was someone to replace howardth full time i wouldnt mind wilner. and if that means hes off the jays talk, makes it better.

what is Farrell talking about? Wilner might get snippy with the fans at times but he's the definition of a company man, he defended Farrell to death.

I don't care what you think of Wilner, but Farrell was completely out of line to say something like this here. Also indicates that John might care a little more about it than he lets on.

No way was Farrell out of line. It's absolutely true media provide spin and fans react accordingly. Those people booing don't care a lick about John Farrell. They just heard thru media it was something to boo at. And look at the fans booing Farrell while Lackey suffered an injury.

As for Wilner, he at least knows the game and follows it. Might be a jerk, but it's better than the basketball call-in people who don't know as much.

Yeah, singling out a guy in a media scrum based on misinformation for something he didn't do is completely fair.

Agree on that much.

Or he overheard Wilner on the radio and is basing his judgment on something he heard.

If he paid any attention to Toronto sports history, Farrell would know we need exactly zero prompting to sustain angst over people who reject us. We get more worked up about that than the games, as a rule.

It doesn't seem likely to me that Farrell spends his time listening to Toronto radio. Maybe he cares WAY more than I think about what people think of him, though.
