Yanks (1-2)@Detroit Tigers (1-2): Thanks for the Memories!

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Fri Apr 5, 2013 4:52 pm

After a brutal series against Baltimore, the Yanks ran completely out of gas in the ALCS 2012. Highlighted by Derek Jeter breaking his ankle in Game 1. I wonder if THAT was the end of the NY Yankees as we've known them for the last 18 seasons.

Who is stepping up for the Yankees? Last night, Pettitte and Mo showed how it's done...but youth must serve.

Game 1: Ivan Nova, who fell apart after coming out of the gate on fire last April takes the mound. Can Nova regain his stuff? Yankee killer Doug Fister will face an anemic offense that so far, hasn't proven to me why Robinson Cano deserves $189M.

Game 2: Phelps vs Scherzer

Game 3: Sabbathia vs Verlander

Let's go YANKS!

Nova playing with fire. Despite being behind by only one run, he's thrown 50 pitches in just 2 innings. SIX full counts.

Edit: Tigers score another run off a base hit. Brett Gardner has NO arm.

Bad lineup or not, the pitching hasn't been good enough to win outside of Pettitte.

Yup. Nova couldn't finish 5 innings. Tigers teed off on Shawn Kelly. Yanks couldn't muster 5 runs to erase the deficit. Some of those at bats looked feeble today. Cano and Ichiro looked inept. Very early but already see no one is stepping up...

I just recall my favorite troll barking about Nova's FAST start and I still maintained, this guy is going to come back down to Earth. His stuff is not explosive. It's more deceptive. Ivan Nova right now, is working on being packaged with Curtis Granderson for a mixed bag of prospects.

It's getting tougher to watch. These broken bat hits don't make things easier either.

Cashman keeps saying the Yanks will make big moves in the future but so far, he's proven to be just a business man. Don't get me wrong there is an art to that like Billy Beane. Cash is not a scout. If you're going to cut costs you gotta draft very well and/or sign international players in the supplemental draft like a genius. He has neither.

Says it all that Pettitte and Mo got it done and no one else can.

Remember how valued Hughes and Chamberlain were? You can't get much of anything for those two.

Lyle Overbay is the Yankee MVP as Gardner looks hardly like the replacement for Jeter at the top. Weak arm in CF is a liability. Ichiro is not trying at all. Pitchers are keeping Cano in check.

Today Sabbathia vs Verlander. We'll see if CC continues slow traditional start but right now, he's a very good #3 and no longer an ace.

Yanks up 5-0 on the Tigers going into the 9th. When this team is focused, the small ball works nicely BUT only so long the pitching is there. CC reminded me that he's not chopped liver. GREAT performance. Robertson holds the Tigers surge in the 8th.

All the Yanks need, Mo being Mo.
