The case for my draft pick.
If Brandon Knight is out two guard of the future then PG and SF has to come from the draft and FA (or trade). Cris Paul is not coming so between the three or four SF vs Marcus Smart I choose Marcus Smart. The team needs a point guard in the worst way and Calderon is not the Future, plus SF might be the easiest position to fill. Now will Smart declare? Will Smart be there when we draft? Well that is the only question of making a good draft position into a good pick.
Smart/Knight
Knight/Stuckey
FA/Singler/Jerebko
Monroe/Jerebko
Drummond/Kravtso
Filling out my roster I would keep Stuckey for the right price and only if he want to come of the bench in a three guard rotation. Then use the rest of the money to sign a stud SF or sign 1 or 2 year contracts for the reaming players. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE OF SIGNING CHARLIE V AND B GORDON just because we have cap space.

Smart is less of a PG than Brandon Knight. He';s an easy "NO" in my book

Smart is not athletic and he can't shoot. No thanks. Knight should be our PG for at least next year.

@Shooter, if McLemore or Muhammad have already been picked up and Smart is still on the board I think we'll end up drafting him...Porter is another guy we might have to take a look at...Being that Detroit will probably be in the mind-set of trying to make the playoffs next season, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up trading the pick for proven talent(Eric Gordon)...This draft is weak and I really don't know the direction we're going with Knight...

Re: The case for my draft pick.
Trading for Gordon would be huge for this franchise. The Pelicans have recently stated that they have put Gordon back on the trading block. The pick obviously wouldn't be enough so what else would have to be added to sweeten the deal for the Pelicans?
The pick right now is projected to be the #5. The Pistons would have to include Stuckey, Jerebko, and English and 2nd rounder in '14 and '15.
This adds youth to the Pelicans while giving the Pistons a chance to make the playoffs, something the fans have been lacking for quite some time.

No they won't have to include any of that. The guy obviously wants out and I'm sure his agent will request a trade in the off season. He's not worth a Top 5 pick because he's diminished his own value.

Anything that has Knight as our SG of the future is a no for me.

Re: The case for my draft pick.
Knight is our PGOTF, give him all of next season at PG and I'm sure he will impress. We should not draft any PGs (Smart isn't really a PG anyway) this year, we need a scoring wing.

I agree. If we draft a PG and give up on Knight this early then he will be ruined for the rest of his career. He should get one more year to prove himself. If he doesn't then we can move on. He has shown some great flashes this year and despite his inconsistency I think he has a great chance to develop into a starting quality PG.

Yeah, the Knight scenario will be 1000X worse than the afflalo situation if we let him go.

Pretty much. He reminds me of Waiters...not sure why teams are so high on him.
I like McLemore most, but I think Shabazz is the most realistic pick. McLemore probably wont slip...but a lot could change from now until the draft.

I think Stuckey+Singler+Pistons 2013 2nd rounder could get Eric Gordon to the Pistons...If the Pelicans ask for our pick and McLemore, Muhammad, Smart, or Porter have already been drafted, I'll consider trading the our lottery pick for Eric Gordon straight up...
You guys are sleeping on Smart...

Re: The case for my draft pick.
If Gordon is traded it will most likley be after July4. Thats when the new Salary cap comes in and the teams get there cap space. Over a dozen teams will be able to absorb Gordon for nothing at that time. Trading on draft night means salary will have to sent back to New Orleans and the tax will still be in effect.

Re: The case for my draft pick.
Hell no to smart, only other pg i'd be interested is Burke. But i question his defensive capabilities. and if we are in top 5, we'll be going SG/SF

Re: The case for my draft pick.
We can't even do that trade because of the OTHER Gordon trade.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Agreed - no to Smart.
McLemore
Porter
Shabazz
maybe Oladipo
maybe Giannis (trade down scenario)

Re: The case for my draft pick.
What's the rationale behind the hate for Smart? From what I've seen, he's got a great motor, he's strong as f*ck, great defensive instincts and awesome hands, and he's really smart (sorry, no other adjectives work quite right). Seems like a big-time prospect, if not a sure thing. And while he wasn't totally dominant at OSU, he was better than Russell Westbrook was in college.
Do you all just think he'd be a bad pick for us? I agree with that, weak shooter and not a court vision guy (though he is a good passer).
EDIT: just watched draft express's video on him and noticed he has very good form on his shoot, no reason he can't develop into a quality midrange shooter. He won't ever be Rip Hamilton but the J could easily be part of his NBA arsenal.

I agree. It is not that I want to give up on Knight, just want Knight to move to the 2 and take Smart.
