Don't start a Lillard v Kemba thread at any cost.
It already happened once, tsherkin got proven wrong and locked the thread.
It's quite a sensitive issue (honestly)

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
There's already a few Lillard discussions in that thread. I just saw (from earlier in the season) someone posted that Portland had 12 more wins than us and tried to make THAT a discussion that Kemba<Lillard. As if we have our own versions of Aldridge, Batum, and Hickson.
Unfortunate, but Lillard vs. Kemba is a legitimate discussion, whether that sorry excuse for a mod believes so or not.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand:

Pretty negative article about MKG, as if anyone with half a mind is already writing a 19-year-old off as a draft bust, but it just tells you the kind of pressure there is, being a #2 pick.

When approached about his jumper, Kidd-Gilchrist said his shooting style will probably be permanent. He’s concentrating on the results, not the look.
he is never going to be a very good shooter with a shot that looks like that

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
David Thorpe on why MKG should make a big jump next season:
Kidd-Gilchrist has been given the minutes and opportunities to shine. While he has performed OK, he certainly hasn't lived up to Charlotte's expectations for him when it drafted him over Drummond, Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal. Year 2 should be much better, though.
As suspected, MKG's biggest challenge has been his shooting. He has probably been one of the worst shooters among all perimeter players this season. The good news is that shooting is the one skill that almost every player improves as his career progresses. And, unlike most rooks, he doesn't have to spend all summer focused on getting stronger or much of anything else really. Shooting is the overwhelming priority for someone who can already do so many things well.
If MKG devotes 20 weeks of his offseason to shooting (which still gives him a few weeks off) and tries to make about 200 shots a day with supreme focus on his mechanics while working five days a week, he'll have locked in on 20,000 made jump shots before he plays his first preseason game next fall. With his work ethic and great attitude, it seems a great bet that the MKG we see next season will be the stat monster Charlotte hoped for when it drafted him.

look, i think MKG has a lot lot lot of work to do on his jumper, but it definitely looks way worse than it actually is. it's not like he's shaq at the free throw line here.

ill be pretty disappointed in him if he doesnt make some mechanics changes this offseason. marion and crash had bad form and all but i dont think its possible to become consistent when you're releasing the ball on the way down. that makes his shot 100% arm. also its so damn slow guys can sag off him and still decently contest. im sure he can become a mediocre shooter as opposed to terrible with that form but it would be a big waste of his potential. shame on his childhood coaches

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
Marion had a good reason for being unable to correct his jumper. He has one F$#@'d finger:

And it still held him back, and he was never really a scorer (except when fast paced teams with super point guards like Nash found him open all the time). It holds Crash back even more. MKG has no excuse not to fix this.

i think releasing at the right time is part and parcel of having a quicker jumpshot. i wonder if he will start to have a different jumper for set shots opposed to shots off the dribble or off screens.

I'm disappointed in MKG for saying this.
I hope Dunlap can really persuade him to change his shooting style.

I think his shooting style will be fine with an adjustment or two.

This is what I say also. He is 19. Did you watch him defend Bosh in that game? Bosh tried backing him down and could not do it.

MKG passed Shved for 6th in rookie scoring a few days ago, now he is only .1 behind Barnes (who had a sucky game vs Utah) for 5th.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread
I am not worried about MKG's shot. The only thing that worries me about MKG is his gait. He walks around like an old man. Weird. With that shuffle and his no-holds barred style, being injury prone is the only thing that will stop him. The sky's the limit for this kid. Within 2 years MKG will be everybody's favorite Bobcat.
