Hard to be a fan of the suns right now

Good read. Completely agree with everything.

These days, it's a real challenge being a Suns fan.
The mere act of watching a game can be tough to stomach. Ten losses of 25 points or more, including seven under interim coach Lindsay Hunter. The season has been reduced to a giant calendar with each game representing another opportunity to cross a day off with a black sharpie. It can't end soon enough.

The challenge comes in assessing what's next -- and what we, as fans, want.

If the goal is to lose games and amass draft picks, the current regime has been exceptional at it. Lance Blanks has assembled one of the worst teams in the rich history of this organization and Hunter has doubled the number of blowout losses incurred by his predecessor Alvin Gentry. Between the timely "resting" of Goran Dragic and the injury to Marcin Gortat, the Suns have virtually assured themselves of a top-five pick and a decent shot at a top-three selection.

Some of the radicals have suggested that if the Suns were to follow up this masterpiece of awfulness with an encore, it would be even more helpful. I guess this Andrew Wiggins kid is that good.

Perhaps. But for that core group of fans who still care -- the ones who were upset that Dragic didn't play at home in front of paying customers who expect more -- questions remain. What exactly has Hunter done to validate being handed the job permanently? What key decisions has Blanks made that empower him with the trust that he'll get the next one right? How can you sell either one of them as saviors to your fans?

These are the questions that Lon Babby, armed with a contract extension, has to wrestle with.

The guess here is that if the Lon, Lance, Lindsay trifecta remains intact, some fans will be outraged, an even smaller group will rejoice in the abyss and most will simply shrug their shoulders and react with indifference.

That's the worst reaction of all.

Every team minus the lakers goes thru these rough patches, that how's it goes, it won't be long before it will become real easy to be a suns fan again

The last two seasons were much worse.

Someone who sits close to where J. Colangelo still sits at Suns games & knows him enough to chat with him at the games...asked him if he would have let this happen to the team he built...Naturally, Jerry said no, he wouldn't have. The person asked Jerry what he is asked all the time..."Why don't you buy the Suns back?" He said he was trying to do that ...but...Sarver wants way too much for the team. Again, a departure from what Sarver said on the radio several weeks ago about no one making him any offers to buy the Suns.

Well, I'm not going to jump ship. But I agree that unless you are a diehard fan, you are probably not going to as many games as in the past and generally losing interest in the team.

I'm not even watching them anymore. I stopped in March. I'm with Phoenix forever, though. God, knowing Sarver...I don't even know, man.

I highly doubt this. There's a reason Jerry sold the team in the first place and now he's got so many other things going on, I cannot see him wanting to be an NBA owner again.

Try being a 76ers fan. We weren't elite a few years back like the Suns were, we didn't have a two time mvp and all-stars in Stat and marion to look forward to.

Actually the opposite. I've been to more games this year than I ever have. Usually it's one or two games a season. This year I've been to at least 7 or 8. Mainly because of how insanely cheap tickets are now. Me, my wife, and my nephew all sat 4th row center court the other night for 20 bucks each.

$20 per seat on the 4 th row? That is cheap as ****. Where did you get your tickets?

Go on stubhub or the suns ticket exchange. Buy upper level seats, cheapest you can find. Depending on the team, you can get tickets for about 1 dollar each, seriously, ONE DOLLAR. Then a half hour before the game, go into the Suns app and go to the upgrade tickets section, or subscribe to their text alerts for it and they will text you 30 min before tip off. And you can purchase upgraded seats that are super cheap. 20-30 bucks per ticket will get you center court lower level. 40 bucks gets you blue moon club seats. We got those and sat 2 rows behind the Suns bench and got all you can eat food and drink in the club. So really you can spend $100 and sit 2nd row, and get all the food and drinks you can eat for two people.

Nothing quite says "I'm sorry for the past 5 months" like a good ol' fashioned fire sale.

People who follow a team only when they are good arent real fans; they are bandwagoneers.

Happens to every team. But I will tell you this. I have been a fan of the suns since the late 80s. I have never felt so dishearten about a suns team then now. Take that anyway you want.

Sarver is not going to sell the team as long as it's making him a profit and if he is going to sell it while profitable I am sure he will want to sell it for quite a bit more than what he bought it for.
If only Jerry had held onto the team a bit longer instead of selling it I wonder where we would be now? I'm pretty sure the financial woes would have been solved once Nash started leading the Suns to deep playoff runs but as they say hindsight is 20/20.

The last 4 years in general were much harder.

At least we have a top 5 lottery pick coming up now for a potentially exciting new young player to cheer for and possibly another lottery pick.

2014 looks like a great draft and we figure to be bad again hopefully next year the team will be more pleasant to follow than this middle-aged team with no upside.

I think we need to be conscious of the fact that nobody in this draft is a savior. If you draft a good role-player, then you drafted well.

The playoffs are still years away.

i, for one, could not be happier with how this season is going. i am ready to do what Colangelo never would do, rebuild through the draft.

next years draft is looking to be really good. a top 3 pick in next years draft could be a franchise changer.

it should also be (kind of) fun next year to watch our top 5 pick play. next year isnt any brighter, aside from the fact that we are getting new uniforms.

Return to Phoenix Suns
