Bargnani Excuses - C+

It was a great first half to the year, but a sense of resignation occured by mid year. The qaulity of the excuses really faded.

BC - A

He tried as best he could. He might be commissioner some day so we better not put him in a bad light... ever

It is my personal opinion that he impacted the game much more. From carrying the offense, helping the defense, sharing the ball (being the first one who would send the ball to Jonas in the post occasionally), setting a ball screen for easy basket, and etc. He did a lot of little things for the team, and same as Amir, willing to play even he is injured (definitely overplayed at PF, similar to the injury Amir had two years ago).

how can anyone give Bargs anything other than F-. Nevermind how he played, the only notes beside his name should read, gave up on city, gave up on himself, doesnt deserve to be in NBA!

I hear you. I wouldnt give him an A because he did not exceed expectations in any category. He played "on par" defence and he pretty much used this season to figure out his shot, which at this point in his career he shouldnt need to do

Indeed wrote:BC - D
- Desperate year, and showed all over his plans
- Bad: Signed Fields for a massive overpay contract
- Bad: Traded for Lowry for a slightly over price lottery 1st
- Bad: Signed DeRozan before he is proven
- Bad: Trying to trade Bargnani and make things worse
- Bad: Too much focus on marketing, while forgot about the basic needs for the fans (winning)
- Good: Traded for Gay with an expiring and a lottery pick
- Good: Signed Alan Anderson in the offseason
- Good: Traded for Telfair for an experimental period
- Good: Continue to build around Jonas and Gay

Casey - B
- Bad: On court decision (timeout, substitution management, timeout play)
- Bad: Offensive play (too much focus on long 2s, played too safe, no strategy to break opposing mental)
- Bad: Injury management
- Good: Stay focus on defense, and players committed on defense
- Good: Stay as a team, deal issues internally
- Good: Player and personality management
- Good: Be competitive, play veteran to keep everyone in the season
- Good: Learning from mistakes
- Good: Player improvement over the offseason

Bargnani - E
- Bad: Not shooting well (his strength)
- Bad: Lack of help defense
- Bad: Injury
- Bad: Decision making on the defensive end
- Bad: No improvement as a big man, gain weight in offseason
- Good: Lighter and more agile after injury
- Good: Man/post defense

DeRozan - D
- Bad: Cannot take over games with second unit
- Bad: Cannot create his own shot, but rely on system or other players
- Bad: Cannot consistently shoot the 3
- Bad: Cannot contain his own man
- Good: Improved on help defense
- Good: Consistent in long 2
- Good: Slightly better ball handling, not getting trapped
- Good: Being aggressive when having mismatch

Lowry - C
- Bad: Bad defense in the early season, gambles too much
- Bad: Go for rebound too often, and forgot his man in transition
- Good: Willing to accept a passing role (could be the turning point of his career, reminds me of Billups)
- Good: Trusting his teammates, and willing to take the leadership
- Good: Wants to win and plays tough
- Good: Good 3 point shooter

Gay - A
- Bad: Injury
- Bad: Lack of court vision on the move
- Good: Work with Jonas, pass him in the post, get others involved
- Good: Good perimeter defense
- Good: Can score in various ways
- Good: Enjoy playing in Toronto with Lowry

I don't want to judge rookies or role players, they are not meant to carry the team.

Your Lowry and Casey grades contradict each other. You gave Casey a B, really? I personally dont think he was half as bad as he was made out to be but a B seems to generous.

BC - Lack of vision; quick fixes have turned into immovable assets. F minus
Casey - Lack of growth in his coaching development; stubborn in developing young players. F minus

Starters:
Lowry - Early season form was an all-star; the current Lowry has been neutered. C plus
DeRozan - Developed a post game; all other aspects have not improved since entering the league. C minus
Gay - Inefficient scorer; inconsistent leader. B minus
Johnson - Improved every aspect of his game; most important player this season. A minus
Valanciunas - Played through terrible officiating for half the season; showing promise and growth despite Casey. A minus

Bench:
Lucas - Has not shown to be a team player. D plus
Anderson - Best shooter on the team. Tunnel vision. C plus
Ross - Fun to watch; not much of a player otherwise. C minus
Fields - Provided strong defense despite completely losing his shooting touch. C
Bargnani - Provided nothing to the franchise for years except ridicule. F
Gray - Big body. Little else. D plus

Looks like Indeed watched a completely different season. Poster above me is pretty much dead on in their assessment.

Casey: D- and the only reason why is because he still has the locker room so far. Offensive sets are brutal, cannot properly utilize players (Lowry being neutered), and defense doesn't have proper awareness.

BC: D. Rudy Gay is a nice find, and his length can create disruptions in the passing lanes. That said, Lowry was a mismanagement, Fields is so far overpaid and MLSE needs to stop meddling in by trying to bring Steve Nash. Needs to be booted upstairs and find a new GM. He is only good as a buffer between the new GM and the boardroom.

Amir: A. Mid range jumper is still in development, but proves all naysayers wrong. Criminally underpaid and underrated with hustle, touch, and garbage buckets. Excellent defense and improved awareness to reduce silly fouls.

Valanciunas: A. Inconsistent playing time aside, he is one of the bright spots on the Raptors squad. Great touch, gets to the line. Needs to work on his strength to avoid getting pushed aside in the post or getting rebounds.

Derozan: C+. Deadly midrange shooter, but needs to expand to the three point line. Ball handling is terrible, but offensive sets need to utilize him as a cutter to the basket. Got to start working on general awareness and court vision. Watches videos, but needs pointers.

Ross: C. Much more raw than people thought, but shows promise. Frame isn't filled out yet, and needs to work on his rhythm. Ball handling needs to improve, but his slashing ability is underutilized. Tend to over commit on defense, leading to silly fouls or four point plays. Give him another year or two to acclimate and mature.

Fields: D. Slightly better second half, cutting the lanes and grabbing rebounds. Still isn't worth the contract, however.

Lowry: C+. Amazing stretch before the players meeting. Struggles today should be blamed on coaching and front office for neutering his game. He is more suited to drive and kick than PnR.

Gay: B-. His offense is overrated, but defense is underrated. Great length that can disrupt passing lanes and create fast breaks. Needs to pick his spots and have a better offensive set. Kick the ego out the door and know your role.

Gray: D-. Just depth, nothing else. Solid at times, otherwise, a complete liability.

Telfair: D. Serviceable backup in limited minutes. Nice find for a scrub big that couldn't even play in Canada.

Bargnani: C-. At times, he was being physical, bodying up on his matchup and hitting mid range shots. Disappears far too often, however. If he can keep being physical, play with a chip on your shoulder and hit jumpers and stretch the floor, he'll have a solid career. The key is consistency.

Anderson: F. All the shot selection of Kobe and none of the talent.

Lucas: D. Can win and lose you ball games with his shots, just as advertised.

Acy: C. Solid pick at the second round. If he can extend his range to three, can be a poor man's Millsap.

Pietris: F. Bust, but costs next to nothing.

Kleiza: NA. Didn't play enough and career could be over. Otherwise, can provide solid scoring as a small 4.

MLSE: F. Meddling with Steve Nash earns you that grade. Can be upgraded to a D if BC is a candidate for CEO (aka booting him upstairs out of harms way).
