objectively speaking, one of the best places in the world to raise a family IMO. low crime, low unemployment, high standard of living, high standard of education etc etc
however im not at that stage in my life so atm i rly enjoy america

I hear that Australia isn't that great of place. Due to global warming there has been major droughts and a lot fires. I heard a lot of farmers abandoned the country. I do want to try roo. Heard its pretty good.

there is a lot wrong with the american education system
on a personal economic level, the ridiculous costs with little to no government assistance leaves kids graduating at the age of 22 with 6 figure debts, which is mind boggling to me. in australia the government subsidises your college education with a interest-free loan, which you only pay back once your income reaches a certain threshold.
academically, i spent a year at the uni of miami, which is a borderline top 50 school in the states i think. i took 300-500 level classes that were directly equivalent to classes back home in sydney. i had a 3.75 gpa for those classes which is at least equivalent if not better than my grades back home while going out 4-5 times a week, attending roughly 1/2 my classes and only studying/writing papers the night before they were due. the quality of writing was significantly lower, with papers that would score (generously) a 65-70 back home easily getting an A to an A+ (95+)
my best friend who was at uni of wisconsin madison which i think is like a top 20 school found the schoolwork equally uninspiring
therein lies my lack of faith in the american education system

Kilroy wrote:EArl wrote:Kilroy: What you get payed for your degree is based on what you major and the amount of effort you put into it.
I do agree that you should do what you want as a career, but if you expect to get paid a lot for something that isn't as hard or in demand as someone else than that person cant bitch about it. (not talking about you)
Also i've met people with these undesirable degrees and they actually did a lot of things like internships and outside work and when they finished school they had pretty sweet jobs.
This isn't a communist country where we all get paid equally and I don't want it to be that way.
When I finish school and become a doctor ill be damned if someone tells me that I don't deserve to get paid what I get paid. I am busting my ass off for my degree and those lazy asses that sat in your couch watching TV have no right to say anything.
Anyway what I do agree with Florence is that school should be more affordable. For some reason being in the lower class helps out a lot. I basically get paid like 90% percent of my school and have taken out very small loans.
Awaiting rebuttal....
The first line is incredibly naive... Most of you guys are pretty young, so maybe you're just getting started in your careers, but trust me, your degree and what you put into it is a relatively minor factor in what you get paid in the work force. Especially 5-10yrs out of school.
Unless you go into sales, or are a MD (and most likely even then) Graduation is just the beginning of your education. And it only gets more costly from there.

BS in Petroleum Engineer will usually get paid more than a PHD in Art history.
Also you basically said what I said in your last comment. You just rephrased it differently.
No I didn't, because "Continued Education" largely takes the bottle-neck of the US 4 yr College system out of the equation.
Continued education is a Pay to Play system in large part. Quotas, GPA's, and Socioeconomic concerns largely don't apply.

a quick wiki search- In the 2013 issue of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges," the University of Miami was ranked 44th among national universities, the highest ranked in Florida.[135]

i don't want to belittle your accomplishments at all (its great, i only had one major) but it seems that those majors (and it would be nice for some input by others here) aren't taken very seriously (at least in the us) from what i've encountered (in terms of job prospects type things)
maybe not as bad as philosophy, or history but there you go
i apologize if i offend anyone for my possible ignorance
