His "clutch" stats from this year... 35% shooting.
http://www.82games.com/1112/11NOH5.HTM#clutch
The previous year... 30%

2010... 30% shooting.
There are 3 years where he was horrible in the clutch. Me thinks that absurd number he briefly put up during yet another injury shortened season was a bit of a fluke.
Gordon is NOT a star in the clutch, he is not a star period... except he is paid like one.

Re: Eric Gordon, Part Deux
phrazbit,
If you're really gonna take the 2 NOLA seasons in which he barely played as most reflective of his closing skills, i don't know what to tell you.
2011 was his breakout season, and by far a better precursor of his ability, IMO.
And guys that are barely 23 usually do get better, especially one with as high a ceiling as Gordon.

Guys that are already beyond their 5th season typically do not improve dramatically. And barely 23? He is already 24, he will turn 25 early next season.
What determines high ceiling? Gordon is undersized and heavily reliant on a jump shot. He has likely already hit his ceiling, and given his horrible injury woes is unlikely to even get back to that form. I'm not blown away by one year of "clutch" shooting, for a lotto team, when he has spent the rest of his career firing up bricks in the clutch on lotto teams. Gordon is the new Ben Gordon. An undersized one dimensional player who chucked up shots and got grossly overpaid... and then his true worth became apparent. A loser, on an awful cap crushing contract and his team will spend years trying to get rid of him.

One dimensional? Ben Gordon? WTF? You ever seen him play? Just a few days ago he was getting to the basket at will against us. Which is one of his specialties.
His jumpshot's got very deep range, but calling him a one-trick pony and comparing him to Ben Gordon, is wrong.

Yeah, that Suns defense is formidable. And he killed the Suns to the tune of 36% shooting. Take a peek at Ben Gordon's career arch (and scouting reports) and compare it to Eric Gordon. Very similar players. Undersized, cant pass, cant rebound, only contributes in the scoring department, flashy at times, inconsistent, given a huge contract that his team instantly regretted... The only glaring difference is Eric Gordon is made of glass.

The only thing similar is the height (although EJ is obviously bigger, stronger, faster)and jumpshot. EJ can kill you from the inside/out, and is deadly off the dribble. That creativity and ability getting shots off the dribble is what makes him elite and ultimately sets him and Ben apart, and gives EJ a much higher ceiling.

They're the same size, Gordon is a bit thicker but thats it. And Gordon is not elite and never has been. To be an elite player you need to be able to do something besides just get "yours" in the scoring column and Gordon does absolutely nothing else. Also, Ben Gordon in the first half of his career did all those things, he got to the line a little less but was a better outside shooter.

Re: Eric Gordon, Part Deux
He's also an elite level athlete, that's another big thing that sets them apart.
Ben Gordon was/is a 6'3" jumpshooter. That's a recipe for disaster. And that's something you can't say about Eric Gordon.

lol, whatever, all the more reason to avoid him like the plague. A guy who supposedly relies on "elite" athleticism... but has horrible knee problems.
And the supreme clutch hero that is Eric Gordon just screwed the pooch with an ugly turnover followed by a stupid foul giving Kobe an AND1.

Lol, the refs obviously got the memo from Stern. So disgusting watching our draft pick go up in flames like this.
And Gordon is so much more unselfish than you give him credit for. If you're watching the game, you can see those playmaking skills.
3.3 assists just don't tell the whole story. The guy catching the ball has to make the shots. I'm surprised he could even get those with the teams around him.

3 assists... 5 turnovers... you're right, I'm not seeing them.

Re: Eric Gordon, Part Deux
Should have been more like 6 or 7 assists, great passes just no conversion on the other side. Apparently you just go by the stat sheet to evaluate talent.
5 to's? Im surprised it wasn't more. Hacking and fouling is legal when you're in the way of a Laker playoff berth.
Good game by EJ tonight though.

Did you not see the game tonight? In the final minute he turned the ball over 2 times. Then he just stood there when his teammate was trying to pass a lose ball, he didn't move or even attempt to go closer to get the ball, just stood there and put a hand out before it was stolen.
