So...D-Will's back
29/12/4 with 1 TO tonight in a blowout over the Celtics in Boston. 50% from the field, 65% TS.
He's averaging 19/8 on the season, with less than 3 TOpg, and 57.1% TS. He's led a top 8 offense with Brooklyn this year, despite the lack of quality coaching and the lack of shooters on the team. It's basically been him, Lopez, and JJ carrying the offense.
Also, people think he's only started playing well since the break, but after the coaching change and before the ASB, D-Will averaged 17/7 on 57% TS and a 117 ORating. He's been on an upward swing ever since PJ took over and changed some things around, and ever since he's been healthy (when he got treatment over the break), he's been fantastic, playing the best basketball of his career imo.
He's clearly returned to elite form, and imo, has a good case to be a top 10 player in the league this year, and up there with any PG not named Chris Paul.

Hopefully he keeps it up, but he is playing great. Who knows, maybe we can win a game against the heat if we get to the second round, although i'm not counting on it.

Also has a debilitating hair condition. It's pretty crazy how his body is literally falling apart.

If the Nets have a first round exit, no one is gonna care about this last stretch of the season. I will see if he keeps it up next season.

Deron Williams is still an elite PG and that was never in question. Great player.

His lack of production earlier in the season was due to Avery Johnson. The guy is simply a PG killer. I remember when Devin Harris was playing for him, he was only an average PG with a lot of potential. As soon as Harris went to the Nets where he could do whatever he wanted, he became an all-star.
I remember Nets fans were making excuses saying he was just injured though. He would still be playing like the way he did early in the season if Johnson was still the coach.

It was to a lot of posters in here, which is asinine. Last season, under Johnson, he had to defer to Sundiata freaking Gaines on ballhandling duties.
That's how bad of a coach the Nets had, plus his ankles were screwed up, but he didn't use it as an excuse, which is why he got so many criticism.

He WAS injured though, on top of the bad coaching. His ankles were really messed up, he's talked about how he couldn't walk up the steps or play with his kids without his ankles killing him. Since he got the cortisone shots and PRP treatment over ASB, he's been fantastic, as good as he's ever been.
He played much better, but wasn't quite back to form even when PJ took over leading up to the break. He stills runs Avery's "system", just made things a little easier for D-Will, such as keeping the ball in his hands more, and running more PnR with Lopez (sounds like an obvious thing to include in the offense, but Avery rarely did).

PJ is Avery with a less annoying voice.
Injuries aren't an excuse, they are a reason. And he's playing like a superstar because he is healthy and not injured.
What the hell are you talking about?

Oh is that all? Brooklyn has to win out just to win 50 games, with 3 bonafied allstars in one of the weakest eastern conferences in the last 6-7 years.
Houston Rockets
PG Mark Price • Terry Porter
SG Michael Jordan • Jeff Hornacek
SF Paul Pierce • Michael Finley

Ummm, all of them missed or played through injuries for a significant amount of time.
I'm not dismissing the fact that the Nets were supposed to be a little better, but come on, now.

Re: So...D-Will's back
lol, why are people reluctant to give D-Will credit? He has been playing amazing since the all star break, because he finally is healthy enough to play this way. The ankles are still messed up and will require surgery in the off season, but the treatment he received over the All star break has worked wonders and dramatically upped his game. He has either been the best PG or the second best PG in the league since the All Star break. The numbers back this up.

Re: So...D-Will's back
3 bonafied all stars? D Will was struggling badly early in the season, JJ isn't even an all star anymore (although still a good player), and Brook is a first time all star. Add to that, more underachieving players (Crash, Hump, Brooks, Teletovic), and a horrible coaching system.Coaster80 wrote:therealbig3 wrote:It's basically been him, Lopez, and JJ carrying the offense.

Is there a way to find PER splits? Like, second half of the season?
Second half: DWill averaging 23/8 on 48/42/87 shooting. 62% TS.

Even with the poor start he has still put up an excellent stat line this season
20 PER
57% TS
18.7 ppg
7.8 apg
2.7 TO
39% from 3
pretty much right at his career averages, even with a horrible start to the year.
