Dumars needs to trade with DENVER this offseason
1) Denver's going to be in cap h3ll and will likely be looking to dump contracts.
Iggy = $16.1 mil
Lawson = 10.75 mil
McGee = 10.75 mil
Gallo = 10.1 mil
Chandler = 6.3 mil
Miller = 5.0 mil
Mozgov = 3.9 mil (QO)
Koufos = 3.0 mil
Randolph = 1.75 mil
Fournier = 1.4 mil
Faried = 1.3 mil
Hamilton = 1.1 mil
TOTAL = $71.45 million
Now even if Iggy opts out and they don't offer Mozgov the QO - they still have $51.45 locked into next season and will most definitely make re-signing Iggy, Brewer, and another backup C (one cheaper than Mozgov?) a priority this offseason.
2) Denver has depth at the position we need to fill (SG and SF)
3) They are in win-now mode, so they won't want to let guys walk and get nothing in return.
Main targets: SF Wilson Chandler AND SG Evan Fournier
I would propose we take some long-term salary off their hands. Chandler and Fournier are a must, and I would take on the long-term contracts of other guys who don't play much for them anyway - Anthony Randolph and Mozgov (if they do offer him the QO), and maybe even Miller.
I actually think Stuckey and CV would both fit in nicely there. Stuckey as a backup 1/2 behind Lawson and a re-signed (or possibly opted-in) Iggy -- and CV as a stretch-4 option behind Faried. And best of all, both would expire for them after next season unlike all those other guys we'd be taking on.
DENVER:
Lawson / Stuckey
Iggy / Stuckey / Hamilton
Gallo / Brewer / Hamilton
Faried / CV
McGee / Koufos
DETROIT:
Knight / Miller
LOTTO / Fournier
Chandler / Middleton / Singler
Monroe / Randolph / Jerebko
Drummond / Mozgov / Kravtsov
Iggy = $16.1 mil
Lawson = 10.75 mil

Gallo = 10.1 mil
Chandler = 6.3 mil

Shabazz in the draft and Chandler would be my dream scenario. That would still leave us with a ton of capspace to create a very formidable bench.

I would much rather have Fournier over Hamilton.
And Chandler will be made expendable because they have and will keep Gallo.
It makes more sense for them to trade Chandler + a youngster over two low-salaried youngsters. And between the two youngsters, I want Fournier.

They're not trading guys on Rookie deals. Chandler is our only option.

I'm hoping their emerging wings will make Chandler available. Chandler is also on a fantastic contract though. His skill set is exactly what we need at SF.

Re: Dumars needs to trade with DENVER this offseason
When did a team being just under the luxury cap line become cap hell? Also some things you seem to be missed, Iggy is supposedly opting out for a deal that pays less but is a long term deal, saving money off the cap. Mozgov will also not be brought back more than likely as they were trying to trade him all season. Leaving the Nuggets with 11 players under contract, 12 with Iggy at a paycut, and 13 with the 1st round draft pick. Even if Iggy did not opt out, they would be under the tax by letting Mozgov walk, and that is with no increase in the cap or tax.

Yeah looks like Chandler's doing what I knew he would with Gallo out...he can't be had without assets being given up.

Re: Dumars needs to trade with DENVER this offseason
Odd that they would trade a young prospect and a proven solid SF on good contracts for a mediocre SG and a garbage PF both on bad contracts, without us taking back any bad contracts. Their front office simply hasn't made any huge mistakes that they need to make up for by bartering talent. If they're cutting costs to sneak below the luxury line (which is 70-72m), I think they'd be looking more for a deal like a mid-first for Chandler, or Chandler-Fournier for a lotto pick.

Using the $51.45 locked in...
add Iggy @ $10 mil per season for however many years he wants and they're now at $61.45...
Include their first round pick and they're now approx $63 mil
get some veteran big for the minimum to take Mozgiv's spot and call it a day
That leaves Brewer without a contract... and we should seriously look at him.

I don't know why you all think Denver is going to re-sign Brewer. If you look at the Denver forum, they have all conceded to the fact that he's not going to be there next year. Add to the fact that Chandler is better than Brewer and it's silly to think that they'd trade Chandler just to keep him.
Also it's not like Chandler is going to be on the bench next year...acl injuries don't heal that quick

Re: Dumars needs to trade with DENVER this offseason
I've come around on Brewer. There's not a lot of good youngish wings available in FA, Brewer would be 31 at the end of a four year deal. He could command in the $8-$10 million range but I think it's pretty clear he's a starting caliber 2-3. Brewer and Shabazz/Porter would make for a really long starting lineup.
It makes much more sense for Denver to opt for cost certainty with Chandler and let Brewer walk. Even then Chandler isn't going to be had for two scrubs we don't want.

Using you numbers the Nuggets can afford to resign Brewer as well, and give him a market value deal when they do it. Fact is the Nuggets just lost their starting SF for the next 8-12 months, their primary backup SF has had some injury problems in the recent past and also is the Nuggets primary backup 4, meaning the Nuggets will have Chandler, Iggy if he resigns for the $10 you mentioned, and 3 guys who have very limited experience for the SG/SF roles. Fournier has shown he deserves minutes, and Nuggets fans are relatively high on the other 2, but the Nuggets may choose to resign Brewer as insurance next year and then make a trade in a year or so.

conceded the fact that the Nuggets would not resign him? Are you talking about our thread from 2 weeks ago? In case you missed it, that was before the Nuggets lost their starting SF who may not be back for a full year, now things are a little different as it is entirely possible the Nuggets will not have either of their starting Sg or SF on the active roster next season.

I would be shocked if Brewer got anywhere close to $8 million a season, this is a guy that has been salary dumped twice and cut in the last 3 years. Yes he has finally found where he fits on a team as an off the bench hustle guy that does several things ok, but reality is if he gets more then half of that he will be a bad contract.

Re: Dumars needs to trade with DENVER this offseason
I'd be shocked if he gets much more than the MLE. He's still a bad offensive player while in the best possible situation for his skill set. If he had a knock down corner 3 pointer, maybe he'd get $8-10m as a stopper, but very good d and bad offense should keep him in the weak starter/bench pay range.

Re: Dumars needs to trade with DENVER this offseason
Iggy can opt out, the Nuggets also can just give away McGee to a desperate team with capspace looking for a C, they dont have a cap problem at all. There is no reason why Denver would trade with the Pistons.
The options at SF are horrible this offseason, only Brewer and Aminu are ok imo, but trade would be a far better route to go to fill the SF void i think. Brewer seems like a good backup SF, but i am not convinced he can hold his own as a starter, and he is certainly not worth 8 per year lol

I'm not interested in paying Iggy what he wants for his 12PPG per game. I'd just draft Porter or Bazz and call it a day.

Re: Dumars needs to trade with DENVER this offseason
Trading for Fournier and Chandler would be at the very least a positive offseason.
Stuckey's expiring, Singler, both seconds, future first.
Imagine if we get McLemore. Sign Jack, Landry, Kaman.
Knight/Jack
McLemore/Fournier
Chandler/Middleton
Monroe/Landry
Drummond/Kaman
Obviously it won't happen but it's not crazy.

If we fell down to #7-9 in the lottery, I would have no problem at all trading it (and CV?) for Chandler, Fournier, and Anthony Randolph:
Knight
Fournier / Middleton
Chandler / Singler
Monroe / Randolph
Drummond / Kravtsov

Monroe / Randolph

You probably haven't been watching Denver games a lot this season.
