He's a pretty good player, kind of an undersized PF that plays pretty big and can play SF in a pinch and even a little C in a small ball set. He's a little too slow to guard most SFs and a bit on the short side to guard some PFs, but he's a very good rebounder, hard worker, and totally a team player. He had a great stretch last year with the Wizards, and in an earlier, more uneven stretch, he still had some monster games, including (I think) a 20-20 game.

There is no way the Lakers miss the playoffs. Stern would never allow it.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

D'Antoni is playing Kobe 48 minutes a game. Insane.

What's really insane is his stat line: 47 pts, 18-18 FT, 8 Reb, 5 Ast, 1 TO, 3 Stl, 4 BS.
This is from a 17 year vet! There is nobody who has been in the league as long as Kobe is who has ever worked as hard or better than Kobe. He is single handedly willing his team into the playoffs when their chances are still really small.

I respect the hell out of Kobe. I always like him more when he's in "eff it, I'm ballhogging and beastmoding" mode, even though he doesn't win titles doing that. If he weren't a Laker I'd probably like him a lot more. Hard to root for anyone on that privileged franchise. They're the trust fund babies of the NBA.

I've never been a Laker fan. The Celtics have been my second fav team since the 80s. But I root for Kobe now. I'd love to see him make the playoffs and take out San Antonio the first round.

Rose missed the entire season. Hamilton missed almost half the season. Noah missed time as well yet the Bulls still have a winning record. Props to them.

Team defense.. If you consistently execute on that side of the court, you give yourself a chance to win every night.

Kobe with probable torn achilles. Looks like he'll be out of action for awhile.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread
I'm not even a Kobe fan but it sucks to see him go out like this. What he's been doing at age 34 is truly remarkable. He is the heart and soul of that team.
Yeah, the Lakers are the darlings of the NBA and yeah, the league is/was doing anything in their power to get LA in the playoffs. But still, this sucks.
Far be it from me to tell Kobe what he can and cannot do but it's going to be awfully tough to come back from an achilles injury at 34/35 years old. And even if he does, will he be the same Kobe we saw this year?

The Bulls would be champsionship caliber with a healthy Rose. Wish he was healthy so they could Miami a run for their money. Still, wonder if some players for them like Boozer and Gibson will produce for them in the postseason like they do in the regular season. Last time Boozer, Gibson, and Noah faced Miami they struggled.

Not a Kobe fan either, but agree with this sentiment. Although we saw what happened here with Arenas coming back too soon, Kobe thought he could play through pain with 48 minutes per night. Hope the injury isn't as serious as it looked though and I hope Kobe will bounce back.

The only two Achilles injuries I recall were Chauncey Billups and Elton Brand. Both players were shadows of themselves after coming back.
